MS Cancels 1 on 1 Interviews with GB, GI.biz, Tapezilla...MCV?: "Scheduling conflict"

OK, an interesting twist - Michael French was told last week (by MS, I presume) that there would be no interviews at E3 with execs:

So yeah, maybe MS is just cancelling things because of scheduling conflicts, or maybe they are deliberately constraining their contact with the press...

lol what ? this is crazy

So for the title, MCV didn't have an interview cancelled...they were just told up front that there were not going to be any.

That sounds like the same thing from GI.biz, was it confirmed they had a interview scheduled?

This is really strange. I guess they're really going to try and keep information flow really tightly controlled.

Doesn't bode well for what they're likely to say.

I do wonder if the only interviews they're giving are to people who will "play ball".

nobody will have the balls to ask Microsoft hardball questions after these cancellations lol

That's not "bad" press...that's just stupid press. They literally weren't informing anyone about anything, just cracking jokes the whole time. Seems like they are the farthest thing from unbiased just by reading that. Haven't heard about them until today so can't really comment with any solidarity however...just basing it off those pics.

You guys realize that most of the people you claim to have "bias" were pround owners of an Xbox 360 and loved the platform, right? Most people who are against Xbox One on these forums and in the press aren't some anti-Xbox herd that has always existed (though some probably were). They're for the most part a group of people who enjoyed the 360 who are looking at Microsoft's new direction and they're digging their heels into the dirt and gnashing their teeth in protest.

where there is smoke, there is fire.

Was a rhetorical question really...if they were deflecting interview requests last week, now cancelling round tables and other interviews arranged earlier, I think it says enough about what's going on.

MS should hire an entirely new pr team. They're even flip flopping on scheduling.

Maybe they learned at least ONE lesson throughout this process and that is to get all your ducks in a row and limit the amount of interviews and the amount of people responding to questions so each answer doesn't contradict the previous one and confuse people even more. If they had just a few guys spouting the PR nonsense instead of 20, they might be able to spin it to a positive without still giving the real information. Basically, if you don't give the press a chance to ask the hard questions and report on it, maybe they'll have less negativity overall and get more people to buy the console that didn't hear about the negatives. If the press was all over it, more and more people would be aware of some of the problems.

Either that or they know journalists (not Polygon) will be pressed to ask tough questions and get some clarification on some of the E3 news. Maybe they expect a lot of bad press?

I suppose it's number one or both, but it'd be funny if the only lesson they got out of all of this is that they need to be more consistent with their PR spin instead of actually realizing that some of their policies are only hurting them. 1 out of 100 lessons has to be a success for a company acting arrogant though.

At this point, I just honestly don't know what to say. Microsoft needs to figure out wtf they are doing. This is a mess.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure he referenced attending Microsoft's Monday evening roundtable on this week's Bombcast, when discussing their schedule for next week. So it was so unimportant, but he planned on attending anyway? OK.

Considering something unimportant and attending it regardless aren't mutually exclusive.

A better plan would have been to design a console and a series of policies that wouldn't garner such hatred and backlash in the first place.

My prediction : MS forgot to get Blu Ray License now has to use 5 inch floppies as disc medium
As I've stated in one of my previous posts, some intelligence services guys discover headcount, biometric and object recognition algorythms in Kinec2.0 software.

Worse, they discover hackers can routinely access the data. And record video of whomever is in front of it. Can you say home porn revolution, of the 'not-cool' kind?

Scheduling conflicts, yo. Maybe they weren't aware of E3 until just recently. And they had much more important things they couldn't cancel. What's E3? It's not like anything special is happening there.

This is getting interesting!! Haha!

So only Kotaku is still in the race? If they really get a 1 on 1 interview, then sure as hell the whole world will be paying VERY CLOSE attention to every question they might be asking. And if they don't ask about all that DRM/NoUsedGames stuff, maaaany people will be pissed!

where there is smoke, there is fire.

Microsoft doesn't want to answer questions because when they answer questions after the Xbox One reveal, their execs "accidentally" spilled the beans on how they'd be fucking consumers, leading to weeks of bad press. They don't want them to 'accidentally' tell the truth again when asked those pointed questions

There are still alot of journalist's with confirmed appointments that could ask these questions.

But I guess Harrison will enjoy some vacation while E3.

That's the one! It was on his tumblr.

I love Jeff, but even if he makes a point, MSoft have to know this looks bad. Putting it under the guise of "scheduling conflict" also makes them look fucking inept. Did they get homer simpson to set up when the appointments were booked?

They will be screening questions and only answering pre-approved ones like

"So how awesome is Xbox One going to be?"

"How exciting do you think it is for customers to finally be able to watch live tv through Xbox One?"

"How amazing is Kinnect going to be for families?"

It's not just a matter of asking the questions though. It's not always accepting their first deflecting response, which almost all of the interviews from a couple weeks ago did.

They could have just told Phil Harrison to stay the fuck away from E3 and been done with it.

Here comes the daily bad Xbone news. I honestly thought we'd get a day or two without bad news on the console but nope. :/

How could MS fuck up the reveal so badly... We still have zero answers and probably none coming anytime soon. Can Amirox toss this onto his list of Xbox One fuck ups. That list is already crazy but every day it seems to get longer.

Yeah true, but I doubt there are any "game journalists" with the guts to really confront them about all that shit, or are there?

I don't know.

It was probably Ballmer Simpson who called them off. Do they really think you won't get bad press just by avoiding them? It's like thinking you can't be seen if you cover your own eyes.
