[MS-Conf] The Halo 4 E3 Campaign Reveal

Watched the sp trailer a few times already. I'm hyped. I Like the part with the MC standing with other spartans (and ODSTs? do they still exist? or all are part of the S4 programme now?).

Downloading the MP stuff to watch later.

have watched the trailer a good 1o times, each time it amsazes me...hyped more then any Halo sine Halo 2

like how the prothean knights teleporting is a nice replacement for the elites active camo

The Forerunner aesthetic is AMAZING. I can't wait to see the Art of Halo 4 book that's for damn sure! The engine also looks good - about time for the franchise!

The actual footage .... uhh. Absolutely nothing special at all, and I actually snickered at the Cortana stuff. There's going to have to be a pretty extensive infodump on rampancy and stuff to get the main line game players up to speed (e.g. the vast majority who don't read the books and such). Don't go the Halo 3 route -- I read all the books and know the universe pretty well, and I still am not entirely clear what they were trying to convey with the "visions" and such.

Oh damn it... watching that footage again, and the Chief's shoulder plates are still hovering inexplicably over his arms. Just saying, maybe they should be attached or something.

Belated thoughts, but here they be regardless! My main hope was for great environments and great NPC behaviours, so needless to say the screenshots of the Chief from some months back did very little to pique my interest.

All in all, I really liked what was shown. The environments look gorgeous, the NPC behaviours seem like they'll keep players on their toes, and the screenshots would seem to imply that the series hasn't forgotten it's roots: vehicles and giant, sprawling combat spaces. The refined Forerunner style is great, the weapons animate beautifully and the enemies look and behave quite unlike the alien species we've encountered thus far. I loved the nod to the artificiality of Forerunner nature, what with new warriors being drawn out from what seemed like organic surroundings.

This has gone a long way toward reassuring me that the series is in good hands, and that 343i aren't interested in repackaging games prior for fear of alienating fans.

Has there been a confirmation that other Spartans exist in Halo 4?

Yes, a new breed of Spartans called Spartan 4's, they are who you play as in MP and Spartan Ops missions. No idea if they appear in Campaign or not, but as they are on the Infinity, and that ship plays a major role in the Campaign, I would not be surprised.

Ah I was wondering for campaign. You thoroughly answered my question.

Thanks.

Now I only play Halo religiously in 4 player split screen over LAN with buddies. Sure single player gets a play through and maybe a bit of online here and there...the meat of the game is LAN fun with friends.

So if anyone at E3 has seen 4P split screen please tell me how it looks I would appreciate it so very much. Graphically Reach was worse that Halo 3 because players popped up out of nowhere because the engine couldn't draw them when they were distant. Now crates and rocks yeah thats understandable but the guys shooting at you and that you are supposed to shoot that should be critical stuff that you can always see.

These two screens make me believe they do:

Moreover, a demo from one of the first levels in the game?

Frankie said that this particular segment takes place about a third into the game. What was shown, I'm sure, was prepared and presented in a manner exclusive to E3. I don't expect the final game to be too much like the demo as far as pacing is concerned.

We did use full body performance capture for Cortana this time around.
That's cool but I'd rather not have it in my HUD. Also, weapon sounds. We were promised eruptions from Mount Olympus. Currently they are drowned out by just about everything else.

Otherwise, everything looks amazing.

I like the direction the music is taking, I especially like the sample they released a month or two ago. Very hyped for Halo 4.

Is it just me or does that vehicle look like a giant Spartan helmet on wheels?
Also was not paying too much attention to this but it has crept back on to my radar again and will pay a bit more attention to it.

I guess it does :lol

Also, is this the new Elephant or what?

Its a cross between avatar and a spartan helmet. Only smaller and bigger

Looks like a game I'll be tired of in two months of playing it.

A fun two months though, I'll give it that.

Two months is a pretty long time all things considered.

Those other spartans better treat Chief like the legend he is.

I cant remember who, but one of the developers said Master Chief is like a legend to them and they think he is dead. I assume they will be quite honored to be in his presence, more so than the marines in the past halo's considering he was then legend then that he is now.

I love the Metroid Prime look/feel this has to some of the areas and HUD. I'm actually kind of excited for this!

I really wonder what had to give for the game to look this good on hardware this old.

Well for one, the enemies evaporate when you shoot them, looks cool, but also saves a ton of horsepower for other things...

Another, I am going to guess that Textures are not all as high resolution as Halo 3-Reach.

Kind of like how Halo 2 looked way better than Halo CE, however, they got rid of detail textures to do so. I am assuming the same will hold true for Halo 4.

I am also not expecting to see Halo 3's level of water physics.(They cut it to make Reach look better)

Lastly, am a little concerned they ditched theater mode....

The rest can be chaulked up to different art style, and 6 years since Halo 2 to evolve software and understanding of the hardware.

Seeing the results, I'll take the lower-res textures.

Seeing as Metroid Prime is one of my favorite game of all time, I am very excited for this. It looks fantastic! Didn't think 343i could pull it off.

No idea if it's still interesting or not, but I've got the whole gameplay sequence in high quality, straight from MS:

Forgive my cluelessness but where on that page is the download link to the video? I'm not seeing anything...

Edit: NEVERMIND, Found it!

Edit 2: Sooo, who thinks the endgame is gonna be we use that conveniently crashed UNSC Infinity's reactor to blow up the shield world? :P
