[MS-Conf] The Halo 4 E3 Campaign Reveal

Can't wait. Looking great.

Does anyone else share my concern with the lack of punch/bass in the human weapons?

The DRM for instance compared to the Reach DMR.

In Reach the DMR sounds like a rifle at the local range would (or at least approximate)

The DMR in this footage does not even sound like a conventional gun..(which it fictionally is)

Was the DMR even featured in the footage released so far? The only human weapon shown in the campaign demo is the Battle Rifle, and I love the sound effects for that.

EDIT: Oh, it's in the B-Roll MP footage. I like the sound effects for the DMR as well, but I see what you mean. It is pretty quiet compared to the other guns. Maybe the sound effects for it are incomplete?

That battle was in an "arena" too, not really huge open spaced.

True, but it was a large arena, as was the ending tank/Scarab/Chopper/Wraith battle on The Ark. Contrast that with Reach and the lack of scale vehicle battles outside of the flying sequences.

Speaking of which, I'm really glad to see the Falcons back in. I hope we get to use them in a huge environment again, ala New Alexandria.

The only things I didn't like were too many HUD elements (really don't need blue all around the perimeter of my screen to remind me I'm a Spartan in a super suit) and MC's new helmet makes him look like a generic Spartan.

Luckily these are just cosmetic things but I'd still like to see them changed before release.

If 343 manages to eclipse the scale of the gameplay in Halo 3, I'll be impressed.

Where was it confirmed that Falcons would be back?

Not sure if this was a repeat from yesterday or new today but they just had an on stage demo on G4, same as the start of the conference. Apparently a bug must have crept up, though, cause it looked like the crosshair was a good inch or two to the left of the center of the screen. Poor guy doing the playthru was having to eye where he was shooting based on the gun model, like he was using the blind skull. I seem to remember that bug was in Halo Reach and Halo 3s betas.

Demo still looked awesome, even with the bug. Love the look of the Prometheans, the Forerunner weapons, and the game in general. Can't wait for more footage/demos of multiplayer too. Good job 343.

where did we see Falcons at?

So MP is called War Games, a simulation between red and blue teams.

Sounds a lot like they just legitimized Roosterteeths RedVsBlue.

Everything looks so awesome!
Not sure on the sounds coming out of the new weapons... kinda sounds like something out of Transformers films.

This game just looks fantastic. I love the sound, the speed and the more brutal nature of the game. MP looks intense. Is 343 going to be making anything else or are they the Halo shop?

Curious how the tackles work, not really a MP guy but iirc you needed to hold down the melee button to do an execution and be really up close - how would a tackle work? Seems kinda unfair if you can be a bit further away.

It is an assassination animation, you come from a certain direction and that animation plays, just like in Reach (has one or two tackle animations).

I assume the initial cinematic of that direct feed is pre-rendered in-engine footage. Now that said here's a question (and let this be a testament to 343's showing so far):

As an individual who saw the very first reveal of Halo 3 in its pre-rendered form (where he walks towards the edge of the cliff overlooking a massive circular chasm exuding a beam of light into the distance), I have been floored at near identical quality that 343 has been able to produce with their cinematic which is in-engine.

How do you guys feel about this?

I know this is a late reply, still catching up with the thread, but there was nothing pre-rendered about Halo 4 or even Halo 3's reveal. It's all real time.

They aren't using ND's or Epic's method of pre-rendered cinematics.

Exactly.

No HALO game ever used pre-rendered cutscenes. All cut scenes are running in real time. Same as this game.

Here's the first cutscene in HALO Reach that you can detach the camera in REAL TIME and fly around. Bungie did not record video for their cutscenes. They run real time.

Halo 3's reveal trailer was rendered in a higher resolution and downsampled removing all jaggies.

A real time version existed, but was noticeably jaggy: Presumably rendering in Halo 3's native resolution. Other than that everything was identical between the trailer and it's real time counterpart.

Halo4 seems to be totally ingame.

Finally got around to seeing the youtube link. Yes it looks awesome. But I'm skeptical of Halo campaign reveals after the Halo 2 campaign reveal.

Ok i just watched the single player footage in high def.

What the fuck?!

The detail is insane. Skip to 4.18 and you see the lighting cause the details inside your helmet to show!

Then it goes black again when you look back up.

Fuck me 343, amazing attention to detail.

Yeah, my only point was that they don't pre-render the cinematics in-engine. =)

It is quite telling that more than one person thought that scene was not real time.

Hell, i knew it was going to be in-game (well, i had a strong feeling it would be as the previous Halos were, more or less) but i was like "whoah, CGI?". Noticed very quickly it isn't but stylistically, it ressembled Halo Wars CGI cutscenes.
