In this regards, Shigeru Miyamoto really is in a class of his own. No one - literally no one - has delivered so much, for so long, so consistently. Warren Spector would be my addition. Not just for his directing efforts - Deus Ex remains the greatest game of all time - but for identifying, nurturing, and popularising emergent gameplay as a whole, which has trickled out into virtually everything.
Everyone else is second tier or lower. A big hit, or a good idea, sure, but not in the same galaxy as Miyamoto, and far behind the decades of work Spector has put in. Had a good chuckle at more than a few names in this thread.
