Mt. Rushmore of Game Directors

Death stranding, MGS5 before that, MGS4 before that.

Banger after banger.

DS2 vs Clair 33 for GOTY 2025.

Kojima doesn't miss.

Miyazaki is definitely in the convo now

I'm more interested in who the up and comers who will be there in ten years.

I'd say Swen Vincke, Nicolas Doucet and Cory Barlog are in the mix and all just coming off their second directed game and won GOTY

In this regards, Shigeru Miyamoto really is in a class of his own. No one - literally no one - has delivered so much, for so long, so consistently. Warren Spector would be my addition. Not just for his directing efforts - Deus Ex remains the greatest game of all time - but for identifying, nurturing, and popularising emergent gameplay as a whole, which has trickled out into virtually everything.

Everyone else is second tier or lower. A big hit, or a good idea, sure, but not in the same galaxy as Miyamoto, and far behind the decades of work Spector has put in. Had a good chuckle at more than a few names in this thread.
