This was a great film that I just finished watching on Netflix. I loved the acting, the themes, the story, the characters. A solid A-in my opinion.
Pros:
-Matthew McConaughey as Mud, who plays his part masterfully.
-Loved the setting as a backwoods place in Arkansas, and how it focused on just this unexciting backwoods place.
-Props to the actor who played Ellis And Neckbone. Amazing perforance.
-Constrasting the themes of 'multiple sides of the story' and Ellis vs Neckbone in terms of Romance were also great.
-Loved how the snakes came back to play a big part, though I figured as such because they focused a bit too much on it.
-The ending was great and fitting. I liked how Ellis didn't know, but I wish Mud sent him one final letter with one or two words.
-Mud = Jesus? Or possibly Adam?
-The camera shots were brilliant showing how Ellis and his home changing, how the film paralled the beginning.
Cons:
-The girl with the nightgale tattoos should have been more fleshed out. She just seemed like a typical sterotype with no layers IMO.
-I wish the family situation was given more focus because it was kinda just meh... Like one scene with some more character development.
-The boat? How'd they get it down...
-So... How did Mud escape from the police after beating up the men. Did he wear a disguise? Was that a lie?
Overall: A-
Definitely give it a watch.
On netflix right now.
