Multi-system owners, ya happy?

The older I get, the less I see the need for more than one console/portable. I sold off my NGC a long while ago, and I'm about to do the same to the XBox (as all I play on it is Halo 2). In the long run I think this is for the best. Any multi-system owners contemplating selling one or more of their systems and going back to casual, one system owning?

I sell nothing!

I'm pretty happy with my PS2/GC setup I have going. I need a GameCube for my Nintendo habit, and the PS2 fills in the rest pretty nicely. XBox, meh. I'm not an online gamer so I see little use for it.

I guess im content, although my xbox and gcn are pretty irrelevant compared to my PS2.

XBOX gets least play obviously

Sakura Pink PS2 (Japan)
Black PStwo (US)
GC (US, modded for Japan as well)

No xbox, but no loss. Perfect pair IMO.

I'm totally happy. I find it sad that all gamers don't strive to be multi-system owners, especially when it's later in the console life like now. I mean you can buy any console for the price of 3 games. Why not have them all?

The ability to play any game out there is huge for me. I need to know that I can. :D

I'm very happy with my three consoles. Worth every penny.

In March I'll be playing RE4, MGS3 and Conker. Beat that if you can!

If I was going to do this, I'd need to stop reading game media and this board because I can definitely get sucked into games I don't have time for. So I'd really need a veil of ignorance to cover my game media addiction. Besides that, yea, it's probably a good idea. You would spend more time with the games you end up getting (if you're a person like me with a busy job, etc.) and yet not blow money on games you wouldn't play until their 20 bucks anyway. And at this point, there's definitely enough on any of the consoles to find one machine that suits you. The problem is...they each have their strengths in areas I'm interested in.

The ability to play any recent title, regardless of system, is awesome.

That is the main idea for me.

ONE CONSOLE TO RULE THEM ALL.

Besides, I find I spend more time playing PC games than anything else.

That's why I bought them all initially, but as time goes on my gaming time is streatched too much (over 3 systems)....so I end up not enjoying gaming as much. One system is enough, PS2 that is, as it has the majority of the games I like, now and in the future. Sure I'll miss out on a few gems here and there, but it helps keep my playing time focused.

very happy having 3 different consoles, enjoy the diversity it affords me. Plus it's not like its that expensive.

Sure, but maybe you should just buy the games you want to play...period. I understand how putting yourself at a "no choice" option focuses you, but for the sale of each system you'll only buy a few PS2 games. There's probably at least a decent chance there will be a game or two you want to play on the Xbox/GC. Whatever the next good LIVE game is, Zelda, etc. Just sell all your backlog and completed games. Buy no more than 2. Finish a game, pick out another. You'll regret less this way.

All 3, GBA player and one of those online rental dealies makes for great times.

GCN gets least play, right now (pre-RE4) obviously.

Really? I find that the consoles steal me away from PC games too much. I have Half Life2, Doom3, MOHAA and Call of Duty just sitting here. I wish I spent more time playing PC games.

eh, not me! I wish I would just quit buying PC games all together. I've bought all those plus Half-Life 2 and UT2k4 and frankly....consoles are where it's at.

I like the fact that I have the possiblility to play everything I want. I despise the fact that it makes me realize that I can't play everything I want.

I just feel stupid that I bought a new computer specifically for these new games and I haven't even played them much.

My situation exactly. But obviously...I haven't enjoyed the content as much either.

I love my xbox/moddedxbox/GC combo

If I sold one it would be the xbox to break the horrible horrible halo 2 addiction I currently have. next gen I think I may be a nintendo only gamer, as the drought between releases may be exactly what I need to get on with my life.

Nintendo - for productive gamers :D

I was hardcore Sega back in the Genesis days. There were some SNES releases that hurt me cuz I couldn't play em (like Street Fighter) but I stuck to my guns.

In '95 I went full out PC Gamer. I spit on consoles. 3D acceleration and Voodoo had me laughing at Playstation games. Then I played Soul Blade and my world got turned upside down.

Bought a Playstaton in '99 to catch up on what I'd been missing. I was first in line on 9\9\99. And 10\26\00. Missed the Xbox and Cube launches, but owned them both within months. I also continued to upgrade my PC through all this.

The idea that there is a game that I want to play but can't because it's on another system is behind me. It's unacceptable. I get enough of that kind of feeling due to not importing much.

I don't have to be first at launch anymore, but I'm not going to let a little thing like not owning a system keep me from the games I want to play.

Collector: Cube, GBA, SP, DS, Xbox, PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, etc., etc., etc........

Plan to aquire each new generration hardware at least 3 months within their release....

Own it all to play it all ... only way to be sure ......

only way to avoid fan-boyism.

I'm satisfied. I dislike the idea not being able to play a game because I don't have the system. I will never sell them, they and their games are like my children.

i got ps2, xbox, and cube and use all three frequently. right now, i have about 10 games for each (i trade a lot in). one thing that's nice, is that when the new systems come out and eb/gamestop run their "trade in console plus 10 games and get x amount of dollars off the new system price", i'll be sitting pretty. obviously, i don't collect.

I can't stand when they do that trade in 54 games get $5 off a hot new release. It just gets me angry. I'd never do that.

I play all three current systems and keep older systems hooked up and functioning, though several of my systems are in the closet (to keep myself sane!). I don't like to be without the ability to play any game I might want to, be it current-gen or older. You could call me a collector, but I'm a collector of gaming experiences, not packaging and spine cards.

Xbox – My Favorite Console!

PS2- Sold it because it was going from Sony to myself again and again as they never repaired it properly! GRRRR They gave me a refurbished unit and I sold it. I miss the console many of the AAA titles make it 2 the Xbox but late and some games I really want to play I have missed out on MGS3

GC- I think this gen has seen other developers make better games then Nintendo, I am happy with my GC purchase but slightly disappoint in there first party offerings. I think they may be trying too hard 2 “innovate” rather then focus on there classic gameplay.

GBA – Hardly ever gets played, those titles that do I owned on my SNES before it got stolen. It’s my own flat really as I am not a true portable gamer.

Dissapointed, actually.

I don't really have the time to play games much anymore, and the little free time I do have, I can't be arsed enough to bother hooking up a system, selecting a game, and playing for what feels like a few minutes.

very -
i just blindly collect consoles if there's something on any of them i want to play, for the $10-15 price tag of picking up some of the old ones (megadrive, snes, nes etc) it doesnt bother me stashing them all in my shelves :p gc has by far got the most play time for me in the last few years, followed by xbox then ps2 , followed closely by the dreamcast (for all the awesome puzzlers)

Imo, every console this gen has enough AAA games to warrant a purchase. I get one system at launch and wait for the others to drop in price. But I can understand if you don't have enough time to play all those games, that's when owning all three becomes a waste of money.

Yeah, I'm in uni right now and I have trouble just playing PS2 games as it is.

Having multiple consoles means there's always something to play. Limiting myself to one console just means I'll inevitably hit a dry spell where there's really nothing to play at all. Just this week alone is Resident Evil 4, Zelda: Minish Cap, Suikoden IV, The Getaway 2, Tork, Full Metal Alchemist and Mercenaries. That's some nice variety to have open to you.

I'll admit the problem is that you may feel obligated to buy many of them, but I've found you really just need to disconnect from the "must keep up with other gamers" mentality and find what interests you. No one system is going to meet all my needs. I'll want RPGs, and PS2 and GBA offer loads of them. I'm going to want online games and FPS and no console is better for that than Xbox. I'm going to want that old schoo fix and nobody satisfies it like Nintendo.

I'm finicky in my choice of games, so I wouldn't have nearly enough games to play if I didn't have multiple consoles.

Pedigree chum. heheh
I own 3 consoles but I aint got all three hookup. So its one at a night.
Right now, my ps2 is on with Dark alliance. FUN 2 player games.
Prb the ps2 is my last console. 2 little time for work and outside activites .

Sorry I just have to have them all. Maybe next gen if prices shoot up I may limit my purchases..NAW!! Who the hell am I kidding. I'm hopelessly addicted to video games. ;)

I liked having the trifecta this gen (GameCube, PS2, Xbox) a bit less than I did last gen (N64, SS, PSX) - but it was still good times regardless. I'm awash in triple A titles...and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I'm happy owning all the current systems.

PS2 for RPGs etc
GC for Nintendo games
xbox for Halo & Bioware

It's nice to be able to play all the best games regardless of the system.

Honestly, it bothers me to no end. I don't have the time to play them all, I don't want to sell them, and I feel bad just letting them gather dust after having invested in all three.

I am never making this mistake again. One console per gen or none.

I'm happy with all of them...

PS2 gets me the system's exclusives as well as many games before other platforms,
Gamecube gets me Nintendo games, exclusives/collaborations, the pad and system I like most,
Xbox is the best graphical showcase and has some good games too...

and Xbox when modded let's me play emulators on my TV, play what are normally computer-exclusive format movie files on my TV -- there's no degredation in quality (no re-coding required), lets me play a lot of music and also store my pictures.

Next gen I will own all three consoles at one point, but based off my experiences this gen - these are my priorities as of now: Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony.

I own a GameCube, PS2, Xbox, GBA, DS, a monster PC (it's for my freelance work), and soon PSP. Each platform has must-play games that are exceedingly worthy of playing. It would be impossible to be well educated in this industry and not owning them all.

I respect those who realize that it's futile to own so many machines when they have such limited time or if it isn't within their line of work. I think those who look down upon people who've picked up a more casual gaming lifestyle are sad fools.

No.
My XBOX never got used and I wasn't enjoying any of the games I purchased or rented, so I gave it to somebody who would use it.
My Ps2 only gets played when I feel like rolling shit into a ball.
