So this game was 29.99 at Fry's today so I trundle on down there to pick it up along with Star Ocean 2, which I got for 14.99.
I figure since I have wheel out for GT4 why not.
I also liked some of the things I read in the previews, like that footage of real life vs. Enthusia going between those cones. Plus all that g-force indicator stuff and what not sounded kinda cool.
Anyway, I went through one race of Driving Revolution, Enthusia life and just plain old Free Race.
Driving Revolution is where they make you go through different courses hitting imaginary gates at the right speed, acceleration and what not. Actually there's like 4 or 5 color indicators representing different conditions of your car. Regardless, I failed miserably and didn't get one gate. Have to read the manual.
Enthusia life is career mode and unlike Forza, you start out with some pretty crappy cars - they give you 12 to start but hell, have of them are mini-vans. As expected these cars are pretty goddamn slow and not all that exciting to drive. After the race they show an overlay of the track with all your fuck ups, mine was littered with all those red stars indicating collisions.
I then jumped to Free Race and picked one of those cars that looks like it's from Super GT. Coincidently the first track to choose from in Free Race is kinda like that course Super GT where you go through the city catching air and going up ramps and what not. I thought this was pretty fun, it was really fast and I had those 'speed' effects going. I wouldn't call this 'arcade' mode, though, since I couldn't powerslide around the corners like I wanted
Again, I have to figure out what all these icons and indicators are but all in all it's not a bad game at all. Maybe it's a case of lowered expectations.
