Dear friends here,
a colleague of mine just had his pc die on him. Current situation: when starting it, it goes into WinXP bootup sequence, does a file system check on drive D (120gb SATA HD partitioned into C, D, E) and then crashes with an error message on a BSOD:
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
REGISTRY_ERROR
If this is the first time you have seen this STOP error..."
Our diagnosis is that the hard drive has given up.
Prior to this, my friend has been hearing "clicks" and "whines" from the computer and when resuming from power saving mode the mouse has stuttered for a few seconds.
Has anyone had any similar experiences with their pc's? Should we just go and grab a new hard drive on Saturday and hope it makes all the problems go away? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
