My mom dropped her Moto X into the toilet...

...and I saved it by putting it into some rice for a day.

I'm pretty surprised myself because her microphone wasn't working for a bit -- thought it was going to die, for sure. She was on her way to my house and called me twice and I couldn't hear her at all. She told me what happened when she got here and I tried to pry the back cover off to get the battery out, but some quick research showed that it's glued on. So I just powered it off and put it in some rice.

But how likely is it that something is irreparably damaged? It's been working fine for a day now so is she in the clear?

why did she put it in the toilet?

edit: my Shuffle went through the wash and yea... it still worked but battery life was about 10% what it was before.

The battery might be not able to hold as much charge, thats the main thing I hear about post-rice phones.

Yeah the battery is shot. Had that happen on every phone that survived.

Shieeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Well, I'll ask her to keep an eye on that.

Is it gradual? Like it will start to lose charge over weeks? Or very sharp drop off?

why did she put it in the toilet?

Old Asian ladies do crazy things like that

I told her I was going to throw the rice away because toilet water and she made such a big fuss that I put it into a ziploc bag for her and told her not to eat it (feed it to birds or something).

I have a feeling she ate it....

I want an in depth study on whether men or women drop phones in toilets more often.
My anecdotal evidence (admittedly a couple hundred examples) is that women do, most likely due to keeping the phone in the back pocket of pants (pockets in women's pants are quite shallow).

OP, you'll probably find that the phone will eventually stop working. Certain functions could fail (like the mic) or the whole thing could just stop powering on.
