"My Xbox 360 Died and I Lived to tell the story" Official Thread

damn sorry to hear that, two is the limit for me, what was the timespan from box to box?

Bought my first console July of 06, it was first starting having problems(constant disc read errors/freezes etc..) inOctober of 06 and it was hardly functional when it finally red ring in Febuary of 07. The new one took me until around May, and that one took me to about this time last year. The recent one, which they assured me would be problem free did last about a year, but damn this.

Realistically, I'm not going to waste money just to "stick it to MS", and I have no interest in getting a PS3 when I've already established a game library and a solid base of friends through XBL. I will however be an uber dick when I call them in the morning, hopefully I won't be without a system too long.

FUCK. I'm so fucking into Fallout right now too. I'm toweling the bastard as I type this.

My 360 just died this morning. It'd been acting up for a few weeks though, so I don't think NXE killed it. This is my first 360 death, I've owned it since April of 2007.

Two weeks ago it gave my roommate a disc read error while playing Fable II.

Last night it straight-up froze in the middle of a game of Rock Band 2.

I turned it on this morning to apply the NXE update. Everything went smoothly. The console rebooted and welcomed me to NXE (that was a flashy video). I got to the "Chose a Starting Avatar" screen, and while looking at the various options the whole console just locked up. I turned it off and on and was greeted by the Red Ring of Death.

What's the turnaround time on repairs right now?

Depending on the agent you get you may have to bitch and moan a bit, but ask for an escalated repair. They'll overnight you the coffin, with an overnight shipping label for your console, and they'll over night you a repaired console back out.

The first agent you speak to will most likely be full of shit. This is my FOURTH repair and the lady still tried to stick me with the standard 2-3 weeks repair(they offered me the overnight repair last time). I asked to speak to a supervisor and it was pretty painless after that.

I'll get the box tomorrow. Hopefully I get it before I go to work so I can ship it right back out and they'll receive it Friday. Depending when they ship it back out I should have my 360 back next Wednesday at the latest, but you never know with MS.

Time to break out the PS Double I guess.

Is there some magic phrase I need to utter to get an escalated repair? Do they do it for anybody that bitches or do I need to meet certain criteria?

Damn I wish I would have bitched and moaned to escallate the repair. Yesterday I get an email that they are shipping me a replacement Xbox for the RROD and I got a tracking number but UPS just shows "Billing Information Received" for TWO days now! >:/

This is my fourth 360 btw (and one hard drive replacement)

Once the first agent starts to talk about the process, just say that 2-3 weeks is unacceptable and ask for a supervisor. There's really no magic phrase, just explain that you paid alot of money and that you need your console.

They will try to offer emailing you a standard shipping label so you can "ship your console off today!!!". But it takes an hour or two to receive and seems like a hassle. What you want is for them to overnight the box both ways and your repaired unit. Again deal with a supervisor, the tier 1 agent tried to tell me that overnight shipping wasn't possible with any stage of the repair process :lol

OMG, After new NXE installed - played with some installations. I got RRoD after Gears 2.

What's a bad day, but it is my first RRoD and it is only less a year old. :(

My 360 RROD'd a couple weeks ago and I haven't had the time to set up repairs. It's 2 years old now, crapped out on Assassin's Creed. LAME. I'm pretty sure Microsoft's official failure rates are BS. Everyone I know who has owned a 360 has had at least one die.

Way to build consumer confidence, Microsoft.

ok i'm having a weird (errrr) issue with my xbox 360. I just got it repaired and 3-4 days after i received it, games start freezing. some play for 20 minutes before freezing, other wont get past the intro, while at the same time i can still view dvds. Is the dvd drive broken now? WTF?

LULLLZZZ

Just got my 360 back a week ago, and am running into problems. My harddrive might be failing or it might be my 360...and I don't really have the cash right now to find out which. My 360 won't boot past the logo with my harddrive on...but boots up just fine and plays game with the harddrive off. If I had to bet money I'd say its the harddrive because my harddrive has had issues before. If its not pressed down absolutely right on my 360 there will be times where my profile refuses to load.

The thing is though, this has never happened to me before my 360 was fixed (I've had the same model for 2 repairs now...a 2006 model :\) so I can't really tell if its my 360's harddrive thats cooked or the 360 itself with a fucked up port or something. I don't know anyone here locally with a 360 so I can't test it that way, and these harddrives are so expensive that I really can't afford to get one right now just to test it out.

Normally I'd just accept that my harddrive was dead , but with this happening just a week after they "fixed my console" in a ONE fucking day period and the day of the NXE...I'm fucking cautious to say the least.

Any advice?

WOWOWOWW.

I just called Gamestop about how much their memory units are. 49.99 for a fucking 512 MB MEMORY UNIT.

...

:lol

512 mb ms...

I'm done. I'm done. I'm getting a Ps3.

I picked up The Last Remnant today... and take out GoW2 (which it saw...) now my 360 no longer reads disc... :lol But the good thing I don't have to repair it... the sad thing I was waiting to get a Jasper anyway which still isn't available yet... XD

1 RRoD and 2 dead disc drives... :lol

EDIT: Was is weird they are sending an empty box to me but not to my brother's 360 when it stopped reading disc as well... and his was a newer console... XD

Fucking MORANS. So after waiting 4 days for an email with a shipping label to print, I call back and am told I will be getting that mystical overnight shipping. Only that was 2 days ago and I still haven't received any confirmation from MS or UPS. So I call back today only to be lectured to for 5 minutes about how they never do overnight shipping. After waiting on hold for 20 minutes to speak to a supervisor he tells me yes, they do overnight shipping but no, I didn't get it because the stupid agent I talked to, forgot to check overnight shipping and gave me standard ground.

So I am talking to this guy and he says he is trying to help me so what he will do is cancel my current repair order and shipment, re-process one with overnight shipping, and expedite the repair process at the service center. Only.. my box is apparently supposed to arrive tomorrow now, and if he cancels the repair order my overnight box won't arrive until Monday according to him. So he doesn't understand how his solution doesn't really help me at all since even when I get the box overnight, it goes standard ground back to the repair center. So it will be an extra 2 or so days before the box gets to the repair center so expedited repair won't mean shit.

Apparently they are unable to simply edit repair orders to include high priority repair status for the service center, they have to completely restart the entire process from scratch. And you get different policies and rules for repairs from every single fucking person there. Do they not have a guidebook for these people? Do they not deal with this enough that everyone would at least be somewhat on the same page? This is stupid. Why do they even have these idiots answering phones?

All of the above has been my experience as well.

That happened to me the last 4 weeks. I just sent my 360 back this morning.

Pretty much, I posted basically the same thing a few posts up. Their tier 1 agents are always fucking idiots. Once they get to a break in their script I just ask for a supervisor.

Anyway, the coffin did come yesterday(luckily before I went to work), I shipped it right back out and its in Texas now waiting to get delivered to the repair center. Once it's delivered I'm calling to make sure that they get a console back out to me as soon as possible. Repairs tend to linger sometimes and I don't want to take a chance of my console getting stuck in transit on Thanksgiving.

I have a feeling the "repair" process will take a couple days. I'm not anticipating it, but hopefully if they get my console early enough today, they'll ship it right back out and I can get my console tomorrow. Realistically, though, I'm probably looking at Monday-Wednesday.

My console started showing E69. I googled and it's a hard drive issue. I remove the hard drive and voila, works perfectly. Tried a 2nd hard drive, works perfectly. So it's the hard drive right?

Now I'm talking to this chick at MS support. She wants me to KEEP the hard drive and send in the console. WTF! I'm trying to explain to her that it's the hard drive, but she insists it's the console. Now she put me on hold for about 5 mins. Holy crap. Amazing.

I think she spoke to her supervisor or something. She understands now. Unforunately, I have to pay for my own shipping since it's an accessory. Plus I lose my save data. :(

Wow. A lot of people getting screwed again. It had stopped for a while...

It happens every year to every console due to the flood of games.

I ended up just buying an Arcade and firing my refurb off to Gamestop.

Just called in a coffin.

Not a RROD. A few days ago the color went weird while playing Banjo Kazooie and stayed like that even on the dashboard. Got worse today and when I tried to restart it, nothing would display. Got no visual nor audio. Tried a different tv and tried a different cable, but nothing. Hopefully I'll get it back in time for Christmas. :(

Last thing I did with it:

Mine died about 4 days ago, I just got gear 2 :(

it wouldn't read discs anymore :( my warranty experied a few months back, I just told them I got a RROD and I'm going to send it out tomorrow.

I hope I get a new or refurbished one.

i bought my first xbox360 in May 2006. I've sent it in twice. Last month, my 3rd xbox starts to freeze randomly while playing games or watching movies. two weeks ago i get the RROD. I call them up, and they said they will email me a label. after two days of no emails from them, i called customer support and they told me that THEY DON'T HAVE MY EMAIL on record.

Hello? this is the third time I've gotten the RROD. I mailed the damn console TWICE. They should have my address, email address, phone, blood type, next of kin, etc by now.

So they sent me the label, and i mailed it in last friday. They received it Wednesday and this morning at 1:30am i got an email saying it was fixed. Hopefully i get it back next week in time for thanksgiving so i can play some fable2.

I posted this Oct 15/08

Wow. Elites are starting to drop like flies, and even the repaired ones too. It scares me to death that my refurb Elite will most likely go again in the near future. Let's just hope it's after this Christmas.

Guess what?
360 #2 toast!

Initial system: Launch Elite. Died 3/28/08
refurb unit Elite #1 arrives 4/1/08
refurb unit #1 dies 11/22/08 - RRoD.

Well, that was fun.

EDIT: Follow-up: Cool. You can now order repairs from online directly. No calling, no waiting.

I'll be on machine number 5 soon. Console started freezing this morning, sooner and sooner after boot-up (During Fable II, GoW2 and then startup screen) and then RRoD, thanks, NXE.

It's physically machine number 3 but it's already been in for repair once. I'm currently waiting for my shipping label email (UK). I did the repair request online and have one of those horrible feelings something's going to go wrong somewhere.

Anyone get an arcade for backup, (sent my launch one off yesterday). I did, can't stop playing Fallout 3 now. Plus the dash update. It will be nice to have a second one for the streaming movies in the bedroom anyway.

My coffin finally showed up....

4 weeks later.

Feel lucky they don't send coffin to Puerto Rico, and at the time i open the ticket with them it was like $70 to send them my 360,i just buy an arcade one and slapped my HDD and move on.

If this one fail is over i will not buy another one again.

My 360 just red ringed last night, I got it over 2 years ago. Is the 3-year warranty period over? If it is, I'm thinking of just picking up an Arcade and either a 60 or 120 gb HDD so I can transfer my old stuff over, and it'll still be cheaper than picking up a new Elite since I already have a bunch of controllers and accessories.

Are all the recent stories of Elites dying based off the old Zephyr model and not the newer Falcon one with the smaller chipset? Are all new 360 models out for sale based on Falcon now?

I bought an Arcade model in Japan a few weeks ago. I've been playing it a lot and so have my friends. It's been on for as long as 6-8 hours a day on some days. It finally gave me the RROD. I used the towel trick and it came back to life but I expect I will have to send it in. Hopefully later rather than sooner. It said lot # 0840 which I think means was made in September of this year. Sucks that the newer ones are still getting RRODs.

It's three years from the date of purchase, and if you don't have a receipt I believe they do it off the manufactured date... so you'd need to check if you're still covered.

As for people who bought their 360 at US launch... RRoD coverage is over for you. If your machine dies now you're SOL.

Exactly how many of those are still kicking? 50%?

My 360 finally got the RRoD, after working perfectly fine since August 2006. Was just toying around with making an avatar (I like it). Luckily I just removed the COD4 disc from the tray before that. Wanted to print out the UPS return label, but it seem my printer ink evaporated or something.

Manufacturing date is November 17, 2005. I hope they go by actual sell date (I still have the Receipt!), and not the manufacturing date, as that's just past the 3 year warranty.

My launch console died last night. Playing the Banjo demo and a green grid appeared all over the screen. Reset it and got the E 74 Error. Dead ANNA Chip or GPU.

Looking online shows a lot of these since the NXE update. Related at all?

Oh well, now do I tell Microsoft that its an RRoD or just get a new console?

Tell me this isn't so I just brought an ARCADE and made sure the manufacturing date was recent. So far so good however lately Ive been getting disc read error while playing Gears2.

Apparently there's a whole batch of faulty Gears 2 discs floating around out there. Would suggest having a look at the Gears of War forums.

I dealt with the EXACT same thing...I was told last week I would recieve expedited shipping, didn't get it, and now it's too late!

I recieved a wireless controller for this BS (by calling the English speaking CS a page back), but it's still a joke.

It took 3 business days for repair the console via UPS Ground (which I could not get an overnight label for, despite glaring proof I was lied to). Now, despite being "shipped" at 7:30 on a Sunday morning, I will have to wait NINE DAYS to receive the console back. Thanksgiving or not, that's a fucking insult.

I have been hung up on, lied to by Tier 1's and Supervisors, and given the exact opposite of the service I expected after spending hours on this garbage.

This is also infuriating...I've registered every one of my 360s on Xbox.com, given CSRs serial numbers for consoles that I ended up replacing at GameStop, and yet they still act like I'm on crack for asking for an Elite after seeing SEVEN xbox 360s fail.

To them, I'm only on my "second repair." To me, the $130 I had paid for in-store warranties becomes more and more justified, because XCS seems to be incapable of safe recordkeeping.

Can't help me for shit, but I'll be damned if they don't want to call me by my first name. GTFOH :lol

^ 9 days from the date you shipped it to them for you to get your console back? Consider yourself lucky then.

My 360 crashed a little while ago but expedited shipping got my 360 back in about 4 days. might have been 3 if it hadn't been for weekend lag. Now my harddrives dead (basically making my 360 unplayable) so I sent that in today...UPS saying they'll receive the damn thing on December the 2nd which is Tuesday of next WEEK.

;\

Also it seems that when its not expedited, it sits at the repair center for a bit longer. They'll probably ground ship my harddrive back to me in the middle of the week, so I'm probably not even going to be able to play my 360 until close to Christmas break. At least I'll get it before then though.

I'll be getting a "backup" 360 harddrive and Arcade unit after this. Ridiculous :lol

My launch unit was finally struck by the "red-ring-of-death" on Saturday. I didn't have the Internet hooked up in my new place at the time so this was pre-NXE update. I had just bought The Last Remnant and the game froze on me at an early point in the game and when I turned the console back on, it red-ringed on me. I was pretty pissed because I had just bought The Last Remnant and I didn't really have any extra cash to pick up a new unit. I probably still had time on my warranty, but I had thrown away the box and papers when I moved.

I went ahead and tried the towel trick and wrapped the unit in some towels and put it in between some blankets and left it running for about 2 hours. I took it out before I went to bed and the thing was extremely hot. I let it cool down for a few minutes and turned it worked again! What a relief that was. The next day I got the Internet hooked up and installed the NXE update and proceeded to install The Last Remnant on my hard drive. I don't think I will ever try running a game off the DVD drive again. I really need to pick up a 120gb drive now, but everywhere I have looked in the Tokyo area is sold out and a few retailers said they didn't expect to get more in until late December or the new year. I might just settle for a 60gb drive.

My new 360 arrived back home today, parents phoned me and said it's date is sept 08 on the console! that must be a new model.

The machine was sent out around 2 weeks ago.

ANOTHER broken 360.. I cannot believe it.. thought I was in the clear after having so many break. I feel like my heart is broken.. all my DLC, all my games, unplayable..
