N64 emulation?

anyone have any idea what's going on with emutalk? I've been trying to get on there for a day to find these texture packs and it won't connect.

I love these threads, despite the fact that I don't know the first thing about emulation. The screenshots just floor me.

What texture folder? My roms are just 1 file, and there is no 'textures' files in the PJ64 area.

I downloaded the pack, I just don't know what to do with it.

I downloaded the texture pack (thanks), put it in the folders you said to, but when I go to the "texture filter" tab in the graphics plugin options it says "Advanced Options Are Not Allowed To Be Changed." ???

ok, some people are having trouble so I took the time to create a simple html page that lays the whole process down, while offering the required files (NOT the ROM).

you can find it HERE

Somebody mentioned wanting a save file...if you still want one, speak up and I'll upload.

The save file is up. It is my own as I have been playing it lately. It's just after completion of water temple and link has most of the weapons/equipment he would get.

hey crow does that save a profile for zelda in the current game settings

or do you need to tweak it everytime?

edit and since I own no mercy (hell I own vpw 2 lol) ill see you go about updating textures BALDING HBK GET! (lol j/k)

You don't need to fix settings everytime...it remembers.

One more (surely annoying) question: how do I get that save state to load up?

In your Project64 main folder there is a 'save' folder, open that up and stick the provided file in there. Load your Zelda: Ocarina of Time ROM and then go 'System > Restore' or hit F7. Be sure to allow the ROM to load up properly before you try loading the save.

I've got a 1.7 gHz P4 with 512 meg of ram and a GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro vid card (according to CCleaner lol), it came with the PC.

Can I run this emulator? I was fiddling with it (couldn't get my ps controller to work) and was getting around 50 fps on the options screen with Excitebike 64.

edit--those texture packs look very interesting, i might have to check that out

So I will probably need a new graphics card to make this program run great huh? My experience so far has been pretty good, but slightly choppy. I haven't tried the new texture packs.

I only have the AKI wrestling games, WCW Revenge, No Mercy, Virtual Pro Wrestling 2, and Mario 64, but they all run fine on Project 64, between 50-59fps on my P4 2.6 Ghz with 512MB of ram. The only problem is that the Logitech pad I have is like a Dual Shock 2, so you gotta map a few of the C buttons either on the shoulder buttons, or the face buttons.

I'll get Shadows of the Empire and play it over the weekend.

Crow, what version of Zelda were you using to make that save file?

No idea mate, the ROM I have wasn't labeled. I do know there is only 1.1 and 1.0 so whatever version your ROM is, i probably have the other. Let me know your version so I will atleast know what version I have for future referance.

cheers.

OK, I installed that hires pack for Zelda. It seems that some of the new textures are working, and some aren't.

The best example I have for this is Saria's house. There's a texture for it in the pack, but it's not showing up at all. I'm also only getting W and L to work for the new high-res fonts.

:(

cheers and thanks for the help...Zelda looks much better than it does natively, now

Had I known that N64 emulation wasn't as far behind as I previously thought, I might have held off on restarting Majora's Mask just the play the game with AA and AF maxed (a texture pack similar to the OoT one would have been nice, too)...but I'm just too damn far into the game

Holy crap.

I guess Excitebike 64 just doesn't run that well (or wasn't that fluid to begin with), but Super Mario 64 with these new texures is AWESOME.

I can't emphasize it enough, if you're into emu at all, check out what these guys are doing.

I've got a controller plugin that will let me use a Dual Shock or N64 controller. Since the DS is much better for most games (i.e. other systems, MAME etc), I just leave that hooked up. With PJ64 I was able to make the C Buttons function on the second analog stick, and I use the second L button for the Z trigger. It works great so far.

I can't wait to bust open Zelda.

If the Nintendo DS Mario 64 looked like this....they may have been onto something.

Call me crazy...but I prefer Mario 64 DS overall...the camera is my main reason and I'm not even sure if the camera was changed at all...but I sure as hell dislike it more than I do in the DS version. The zelda games get some great enhancements...though I haven't configured MM in Rice (still using the default DX8 plugin for that game)

so...yeah...I broke down and bought a DS

:(

I don't have a DS, so I wasn't trying to troll. I agree, the camera is what holds Mario 64 back. To be honest though, the analog stick works pretty well for the c buttons in Mario 64, we'll see if that setup is usable in other games though.

I had to set the C buttons to the D-Pad on my Dual Shock to play the zelda games...try playing the song of time backwards using the right analog stick and the X button...it isn't pretty :\

Hey... good idea :O

Even that isn't perfect as it effectively gimps your ability to aim with your bow or snot bubble...

heh...looks like I might need to get a N64 pad adapter

I also have this problem. What do I do?

You have to change the Graphics plugin from whatever the default is to Rice. Then you have a different set of options to choose from.

:lol someone's doing quest64

BTW, I can't get the Zelda texture to load up. Does the rom have to be called "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA" as well? Is that how the program knows what texture pack is with what rom?

Lake, make sure you've got the option to load highres textures enabled.

As for me, it's only loading some of the textures, which is pissing me off.

Yeah everything's checkmarked exactly the way the site says. No luck. And whatever I changed makes teh textures on No Mercy not show up...any of em. Odd.

But again, if I have 2-3 different games with texture packs, how does Project64 know which one to pick for which game if you don't specify?

On the boards there are different versions of OOT, so some texture files might work with different iterations of the ROM> You might want to check that out.

Just to clarify, you have to unpack the texture pack into a folder called THE LEGEND OF ZELDA, and put that folder in your plugin folder for PJ64. For instance, I d/l both of the Mario 64 texture packs, and I change the name of the folder to specify which one I want PJ64 to load. For Zelda, if you want it to load Majora's Mask textures, you have to change the name of the folder, same for Masters Quest textures.

hmm, that is strange...nfi how to help you...sorry mate.

I've been doing some texturing of my own, started off af Kakariko Village...here are some screenshots.

Its fun playing with this right now. Can't get the Zelda one to work, apparently my roms different, but the No Mercy one I have did work (don't get excited fellas, it just improved the text). I think it'd be best to wait until some really good complilng textures come along.

It's a pretty exciting scene. Someone is working on a graphical filter that will "cel-shade" every game automatically. That with the texture packs will be pretty crazy in a few months I imagine. Who ever knew the N64 would have a mod scene?

Hehe, I didn't. I doubt people will ever update models (maybe for Smash Bros where only 12 or so models would need to be re-made) but that would be awesome too. These new textures really make the game look awesome. I wonder if they'll ever add effects like bump mapping to the textures :lol

Someone is trying to add MagiKoopa to Mario Kart 64 by replacing all of the yoshi animations. It seems like a task. The filters are what can really help the models though.

I'm waiting for Truform to be inserted into Project64:

WHOA holy crap... thats awesome, I've never heard of that. Is it just smoothing out polygons, or is it actually a change to the models, or what? This, combined with texture upgrades would be incredible for last-gen emulation. Now if only the framerate could be tweaked...
