Honestly, how'd this get all the love? It's an odd movie, and without a group of people to watch it on the second-go-round, it loses all of the "hey, everyone else is laughing, I might as well" feeling.

BUT IT'S ODD OMG HE RIDES IN A FUCKED UP VAN LOLS LOOK AT HIS SHIRT ROOFLES

AND HE IS FRIENDS WITH A MEXICAN! THAT NEVER HAPPENS

I've noticed that Napoleon Dynamite is one of those films you either love or hate. I fall into the love camp, my girlfriend and I saw this back in May at a free screening and ended up going back and paying to see it in the theater twice during it's theatrical run.

I find the movie to be absolutely hillarious, and somewhat sad at the same time. It reminds me of Welcome to the Dollhouse and Rushmore at times, but I can also understand why some people dislike it immensely.

Some people think Bumfights are hilarious. Some people are just stupid.

Not saying fans of the movie are, but there are audiences for everything :\

Don't you dare compare Napoleon to Rushmore.

Sorry dude.

I didn't directly compare it to Rushmore, just that it reminded me of certain aspects of Rushmore. More than anything, it evoked that quirky Wes Anderson style of making his films appear to take place in the 70s/80s even though they occur in the present. Anyways, if you didn't like Napoleon, I've got no beef with you.

I agree. It wasn't funny, just weird and enervated.

The only thing I laughed at was...

...when that kid was offered "Pedro's protection" and his cousins rolled up and shook their head at the bully. It was hilarious because that kind of stuff happens in my neighborhood.

And then a couple quotes that I didn't laugh at but are fun to say...

"Do the chickens have large talons?" "I caught you a delicious bass"

A couple really funny parts, but dragging and odd for the most of it. I still enjoyed it overall.

The best one was
When the doorbell rings after the little squirmish between Napoleon and his brother, and Napoleon slaps his brother and runs

Strange, I hated both Napoleon Dynamite and Rushmore -- in fact, I've disiked everything the latter's director has helmed. These are movies for people with a quirky sense of humor, a remote way of looking at things. Whatever.

goddamit, Griese!
the part i saw on the commercial for it where he tried to go up that ramp with a bike had me rolling. still need to get around to seeing it.

Gosh!! this is the most retarded thread EVER!

I thought this movie was just okay, even though it started to drag towards the middle. Napoleon's delivery borders on irritating, but the dance scene on stage was geniunely funny. It was never really laugh out loud hilarious, but it was quirky in a way that kept my attention (at least for a while). However, the douchebags who incessecently quote this movie make me want to loathe it with all of my being. Some dipshit was saying the lines in the theater as we were watching the film. You're not impressing anyone, asshole.

The only thing that keeps me from falling into the hate it camp are the dance scene and the fact that they used "The Promise" by When in Rome as the ending song; that's just awesome.

WTF PEOPLE STAY FOCUSED. Starts out with everyone saying that they hate it, then you guys start naming your favorite parts.

I love you Matlock, I thought I was totally alone on this. I just couldn't get the love at all. I can see why nerds would want to love it, but damned if I could find the actual humor buried in it, assuming it is there.

We watched Napoleon 4 or 5 times in the last few days. out of the like 20 people who watched it one time or another THIS was the only one who didnt really like it. In related news she was also the only one not drunk or stoned....or both. Aparently that type of stuff is frowned upon at West Point.

That was kind of my point, I'm in the nerd and geek crowd, but I didn't find it very funny at all. Nor could I understand the humor in it. Basically, I feel as if I'm missing something, or people are a little deluded. :p That or my sense of humor is just way out there.

I went into the movie with no expectations or knowledge of the film whatsoever and was absolutely floored by how funny and quirky it was. I gushed to all my friends about it afterwards, it impressed me so much. If you know me then you know that I don't "gush" about stuff very often, but none of you do so I guess that part of my post is wasted on yall jive turkeys.

Basically I thought it was hilarious, but taste is subjective, the end.

Sometimes I don't find something funny, but I at least understand how someone could. This isn't one of those times. Sure, it had a few mildly funny moments, but for the most part it was just boring. It just didn't take anything far enough to really seem "out there." The potential was there, but the movie fell flat.

It rocks, you guys are idiots. The number of one-liners are priceless, and it's the perfect drunk movie. Sure there's no real structure, but the movie doesn't even go for that.

I like it. Just rent it and put it on. See how you like it. As said, some of the one liners are just so great and the way he acts... Let's just say I'm a fan.

Napoleon Dynamite is a low-budget white trash version of Rushmore, which was already low-budget as is. that said it also embodies the 'too fucking horrible to star at screen...must stare at screen' quality that Welcome to the Dollhouse had.

i thought the movie was very wierd.

oh yea and i laughed at the part when you see the picture napaleon drew for the girl....

napoleon dynamite is funny due to the characters.

You know like...nunchaku skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills. Girls only want boyfriends that have great skills.

come on, that was a pretty funny line in the movie.

I really liked the movie, I found myself laughing at silly Napoleon and his craaaazy antics.

Haters begone! Don't you have another movie to worry about!?

It's a shitty film for sure, I guess it falls into the "It's so incredibly unfunny, unpopular and crappy that it's cool to like it" category for some people.

Saw it in theatres, thought it was terrible. All the decent jokes had been done before and it was incredibly lame overall.

Eternal Sunshine > Garden State >>>>>>>>> Everything :D

did you just start watching movies this year?

i liked garden state quite a bit, but i think people tend to go over the top in praising it. braff needs a lot of work as a director, most of the movie was very made for tv'ish. maybe his next film, with a larger budget, will help.

It made me feel immensely akward watching it, I don't know why. So I liked it. Any movie that can evoke emotions, even something like feeling akward, is good to me.

Plus it was also quite funny.

Time ta STEP IT UP
I thought it was funny, but doesn't deserve all the credit it gets. I think a lot of kids like it just because it's one of those obscure films that's very "cool" to watch in a dorky way or something. Who gives a shit, it's just a movie.

Except it's funny, very popular and good. Hating it seems to be the "different" thing to do. Get a life and a sense of humor.

I'm probably the only person at my work who didn't love it. We ended up showing it 3 times a night for two days. We sold out a couple of the shows, I think, but I only really liked the dance scene.
