Ok I finally saw it...

Uhh, how can anyone like this movie?

The laughs are few and far between...

Like really, I don't get it

Someone explain?

I liked it, but this movie is obviously a love or hate film, and it's not worth bothering nitpicking with people who don't like it and thus make a big deal about why they didn't like it and go off to create a thread about such things.

We've had this argument before. My view? While I personally did not enjoy it, I can see how some people can.

The person who tried to convince me it was a deep and powerful character study though, she was just insane.

Are you a really good looking person with hardly any self-esteem issues? If yes.. then I can probably see why you didn't like the film.

It has those uncomfortable long sequences with people talking in monotone-which I find funny. Then it has those one-liners. That makes it most of the time funny.

Uh, Jon Heder is alive and kickin' and on the Tonight Show not too long ago.

I went into it with low expectations and really enjoyed it. It's slow... slow as hell... but it's entertaining to me.

Oh, ok seems like it was just some stupid rumor; was told about it last week, but never saw the movie so I never looked up info. My bad.

Did you have to make the exact same topic as we've had here about a month ago? It's not necessarily bad that you made the same topic as has been made before, the shitty part about this is that the topic never goes anywhere interesting. Some people like it, some hate it, and no one ever changes their mind. Ugh.

Heh. As a good looking person with next to no self-esteem issues, I have to politely disagree. I know a few people who didn't like the movie and they didn't like the movie because it hit to close to home. Napolean's behavior resembled their behavior and when they saw it from a third person perspective, they realized how stupid, ridiculous, and wussy they looked and were thus made emotionally queasy.

I actually just watched the movie with a bunch of cheerleaders and the cheerleaders loved it.

Yeah, good point.. maybe it's more of the mainstream middle-ground hollywood lovin' people that can't grasp it. Or I'm just pulling that out of my ass and there is no correlation. <-- most likely.

I liked Napoleon Dynamite. Not because of, "hahaha Napoleon is such a dork and a loooser like every other loooser I remember from HS" but more along the lines of, "hahaha Napoleon is such a dork, but in a cyoote and humorous sort of way." I don't think the movie was meant to be an elitist way to laugh at geeks, but more of a fun way for them to laugh at themselves and laugh at HS life in general. There's also a few "geek triumphs" in that movie along with equal mocking of the "popular" crowd (Napoleon's uncle used to be the football star in HS, but look at where he is now).

As for the movie being slow at times, that's your own opinion; mine is that the consideration of that opinion is what's wrong with the direction most American movies take today. Most of the humor to me was in the monotone, delivery and actions moreover than anything else. Although, I can see why some people just simply wouldn't like the film. I think that Demi put it best (as he always does) in that the movie is really a "love or hate" film more than anything else.

I heard his twin brother, which he has killed him so he himself could be a big star. Pedro also has a twin brother, creepy.

will totally Facebook friend you! *giggle* *LOL*
I found the movie to be pretty god damn awful. The characters were just pathetic, there was just about no story, not only that, but the movie gets worse the 2nd time around (The one liners are even less funny). I really don't see why anybody liked it. Probably because it was advertised to death on MTV, the voice of the idiot generation.

I'm neither and I hated it. Most overrated movie of the year. :|

I finally got around to seeing it, mainly because of all the ranting and raving about how good/funny of a movie this was.

And man did it suck.

I had the same reaction to Napoleon Dynamite as I did to Super Troopers -- "The trailer and video clips DID show all the good parts."

Garden State was fricking overrated too... but props to Zach Braff for writing all kinds of good scenes for him to get next to Natalie Portman in.

Well, I find it extremely irritating when people call me queer, so fuc.... eh, actually, I don't care. I was called just about everything in the book during a Mario Kart LAN session yesterday. :lol

Whatever floats your boat, duder.

Pedro was awesome, as were his family. I liked the girl. I liked the soundtrack. I liked Napoleon's uncle.

The film might have been ok if it's namesake wasn't such a torture to watch. Napoleons impatient sighing and moaning went beyond imitating life and just irritated the fuck out of me.
