Travel Poster by NASA. It is astronomically accurate. You'd see those planets in that way if you were in that place.
I just hope the inhabitants of these planets are more welcoming to immigrants than we are.

TRAPPIST-1: come over
me: I can't
TRAPPIST-1: I have seven earthlike planets, several in my habitable zone
me:
Lol.
The planets also are very close to each other. If a person was standing on one of the planets surface, they could gaze up and potentially see geological features or clouds of neighboring worlds, which would sometimes appear larger than the moon in Earth's sky.
The star is much cooler and more stable than ours.
Hopefully one of the three turn out to be truly habitable and have water. Maybe with this discover NASA can put for more effort on FTL travel so we could eventually get to one of those planets.
If I could ask for anything to happen in my lifetime it would be some assurance that humanity isn't going to die on this planet. This might be the beginning...
Why waste time finding something we will never reach?
Knowing these things are out there but we can't reach
Belgian beers as names for the planets. YES DO IT!

If we send today a probe there, it could reach the system in 160 years, and send pictures back in another 40 years.

nope

These have insane life spansDoesn't the fact that the star is smaller mean it will have a shorter lifespan? Or am I off the mark here?

Future drops an album. A week later, NASA discovers "TRAPPIST-1".
Coincidence? I think not.
Its life span is 1000s of times longer than our suns because it burns less hot.Doesn't the fact that the star is smaller mean it will have a shorter lifespan? Or am I off the mark here?
Oh, yeah, that's the problem, NASA just aren't trying hard enough to break the laws of physics.

with our current rockets it would take around 800,0000 years to get there

Why oh why was I doomed to exist in a time period where we can barely move about our own solar system!
I wanna see that crazy, beautiful alien sky with my own eyes. :,<
Anyways, this is really amazing news.
