Nate The Hate: Read Red Redemption 2 Next Gen Update is coming

It's currently $15 on sale and I was going to scoop it up, but this rumor is preventing me.

I doubt it'll be a "upgrade for ps4 version owners for $20" kind of deal. Rockstar will want top dollar.

I'm a bit nervous about running this one on my PC. I have a Ryzen 9950x3D and RTX 5090, and GTA V Enhanced (especially with Natural Vision) is a beautiful upgrade but it comes with a hefty pricetag. Playing at 4k with DLAA, I can manage around 100-120 fps maxed out. Red Dead Redemption 2, the ORIGINAL port with no ray tracing whatsoever, and using DLSS Quality, pushes the same framerate on my setup. Now imagine putting modern ray tracing in that setting? Take a 5090 to its knees. I predict 40-60 fps at 4k DLSS Quality with RT maxed out. Given that's how stuff like Portal or Half-Life 2 RTX runs with path tracing, man I dunno. That's scary. Imagine GTA VI?

The game came out in 2018. Current gen has been around for almost five years. How exactly is a "next gen" patch coming out almost at the end of the so called "next gen" generation?

I guess they feel forced because if they want to release a NS2 version they need to admit this game could receive update for PS5/Series X?

Just my guess.

RDR2 needs an upgrade to the gameplay machanics. Make it less complex and more "arcade" (fun).
No, please no. They even patched the movement early on to make it feel more arcade-like.
I really liked the original physics-based movement - it felt heavy, and that was the point.
You're maneuvering a worn-out 90 kg lump of tuberculosis-stricken meat loaf through rough terrain in heavy clothing - it should feel weighty.
I really don't want to see another step backwards like the one from GTA IV to GTA V when it comes to arcade-style movement...

What I'd really want is a physical version of a complete remaster at 60fps.
With "remaster" meaning a very good port like the recent RDR on PS4/PC, restoring what was downgraded from 1.00 and with the shadows and tessellation PC improvements on top, at 4K 60fps. Featuring a proper Marston model.

That would be a definitive version for me.. for which I'd gladly pay hundred bucks or more even. Not like we'll ever get another game like this, and not like the game in 1.00 needs any RT features with its CG-Like Ambient Occlusion and GI.
I'm with you, but Red Dead Redemption on PS4 wasn't a good port at first - the early versions were even locked at 30fps, weren't they?
I mean, they patched it, and now it's definitely a solid port.

They really need to get rid of whatever 4K upscaling method they were using for the PS4 Pro version. Obviously, getting a 60fps mode will be huge for console gamers.

Probably this. It would be kinda sad if they released the NS2 version and it ran and looked better than the PS4 Pro version lol. I'm not complaining though. I will def buy it on Switch 2 and I have been waiting for the PS5/PS5 Pro drop for quite a while as I never got more than 10 hours into the game because I wanted to wait for 'next gen' patch. I'll gladly pay whatever the fuck they want tbh but I hope it's $10-15. I bought it digitally a while ago when it was on sale so cmon Rockstar, let's hurry this shit up. I can't wait to see how it looks on the NS2 tbh. Most of the third party games that I've seen so far have REALLY impressed me. I'm almost certain it can do a 60fps performance mode on this thing. At a minimum at least give us a 40fps balanced mode. I got my Steam Deck to hit a pretty decent framerate in RDR2 so I see the Switch 2 doing very well with optimizations, using much newer tech and of course DLSS. Hopefully they don't get Nintendo greedy and charge $70-80 for it. $50 would be a pleasant surprise and $60 would be pushing it.

Damn, I'm about to maybe finally start my first playthrough after having finished Days Gone Remastered. Should I play Nier Automata instead? Or will that also finally get a remaster this year?

Other than the obvious performance upgrades, I really hope they get rid of that vignette filter, I don't think they ever added the option to disable it in the first game. Hated that shit.

The game really needs it. The lighting is quite dated at this point, specially when going into interiors, and reflections are very ugly, specially the water. Hopefully they bring raytracing like they did with GTAV because it will look amazing with it

Love the game (with lou2 and witcher 3 best games of ps4 generation) but cant imagine finishing it second time for some reasons (didnt have problem with lou2).

this year im doing:

mgs3 done
mgsv done
death stranding now
death stranding 2 then
mgs 3 remake then
red dead redemption 2 ps5 then
witcher 3 mod support end

no love for yall

Just got it for $15 on PSN today even if a new version comes out.

I gotta say WTF!?!? I'm not trying to gaslight mother fuckers but how is this 30fps? I've never ever played a game at 30fps that ran and felt so smooth that it's barely noticeable it isn't 60fps. At this level of detail too? Jesus Christ GTA6 is going to change the world. No wonder it took 10 years….

I've played RDR2 on PC so I expected quality but that it's this impressive as a ps4 title in 2025 blows me away.

Sorry. Done glazing.

Automata's not getting a remaster this year, but the PS4 versions couldn't run the game at a stable 60 fps and the PS5 versions can. Play that while you wait for this.
