If the difficulty is a part of a good design, I can endure it. But if it's just cheap for the sake of being a pain in the butt, I don't think I'd last.
The game also looks like a budget game. Usually, that spells difficulty being poor design rather than a good challenging strategy game.
Too close to other games I want more unfortunately (Fairy Fencer F/Neptunia Rebirth/Xillia 2/DanganRonpa 2). Will have to fall into the "buy later" camp.
Its pretty hit / miss. More miss though due to various reasons, one being the insane gameplay system. Which if the player does not figure out / understand they will literally not progress in the game and the enemy will seem to have endless turns in comparison to the player. Read the info in the OT to see how the game system is explained. Videos are provided also, but no voice over them as I hate any sort of gameplay vids with talking in them.
Also folks laughed at the graphics which I agree with. It does look like shit.
BUT the gameplay is good and has resonated well with the crowd that enjoys more unique and challenging titles, which this most def is. But generally the odds will be stacked against you most of the time in the game so dont expect something that you can pick up play and breeze through.
The story is a mess really. I wouldnt say its typical jrpg stuff, its just a mess writing wise. There is no real direction it seems which is unfortunate. Its a low budget game, but gameplay wise its quite unique. But seriously feel this will be a huge hit or miss with folks. lol
Apparently Easy mode still will kick your ass if you dont understand the game mechanics. Even if you do, you can still die from doing something stupid. But at least from what I understand HP numbers are lower on enemies which helps. Esp when it comes to the bosses.
Also they actually made the game harder too by messing with how some of the gameplay mechanics work... That was not appreciated at all, since makes one unit almost useless with how its controlled.
they changed how the golem now can only be healed by Mel. Before you could use Nebula also to heal the golem, but that does not work anymore. Problem with this is now to heal the golem you waste a whole turn healing it where unless all enemies are dead the golem becomes locked down as its a constant race to heal it. The golem only can be moved during Mel's turn too so its either heal the golem or move it. Also if the golem dies its game over.
really really not cool that they changed that as it totally tips the balance in the favor of the enemy.
No the character models are horrid its pretty low budget and personally not something a publisher would want to be saying is their own self developed game. As stated above the good thing about the game is the gameplay mechanics. Graphics are already bad looking so folks will just need to keep that in mind. But for those who want something different most def check it out. But just be warned this game will roflstomp you hard so unless you dont mind a title like that would suggest thinking long and hard before purchasing it lol

Hmmm looks like they are not doing the "Omochidashi Pack"? Which was PS3 / PS4 + PSV digital bundled together for a limited time. Was a damned good purchase too since you can load the data up to your account then redownload it and play on one / the other. Its what I picked up for the PS4. Was hoping they would do it for the west too for you folks that own a PSV too. Since it works great on both platforms depending on what you feel like playing on at the time.
The type of impressions from folks who do pick up the game is going to be highly amusing lol. I think there were only 3 of us here at GAF that had the game. 4 if you count Hasemo, but he sold it after a few hours or something.
Was planning on beating the game but am about 80% done with it. Currently am stuck on some HUGE pain in the ass level and thats where I left off and been busy with OTs and work since. D:

In closing even of all the shit I give the character models, Ive highly enjoyed the game for its unique system and challenge it provided. So those who are looking for that by all means pick it up when it hits the US / EU. And those who would have any gameplay questions feel free to ask me and will assist if am able to do so.
Yeah that easy mode thing, gotta say it's one of the hardest games I've ever played in over thirty years of gaming and that's on easy mode. And in fact that patch I couldn't tell any difference from before. It's brutal! Even knowing the system well enough won't stop some crazy things from happening in he game, I love it but it's certainly going to frustrate a lot of people, which is a shame as the gameplay systems in this game are what make it unique and why I like it so much. Still it's a game that both excites and frustrates me. Can't wait to see how others view it. I'm expecting it to be slaughtered in reviews and impressions once more people get their hands on it. But hopefully many people can look past the games big faults and enjoy it's gameplay which is a great.

But then I remember that I've never gotten anywhere in any SRPG. I'm complete trash at them. This game would probably be a waste of money for me. But that boxart is still pretty.

Pretty much my position right now.
After going through some of the impressions here on GAF and reading about the crippling difficulty, I think I'm gonna be skipping this game.
Just as well, my Vita backlog doesn't need to get any bigger.
Even tactics games with slightly above average difficulty or complexity tend to be savaged by reviewers. Tastes very much lean towards the easy RPG-like sandbox type of tactics games, not hardcore brain twisters. I expect this one to get roasted unless they seriously downed the difficulty for the NA version.

Thats not really possible, considering its the game system which is difficult. You will still get your shit stomped if you dont understand the game system. As the enemies will just keep chaining their turns on you.

Question, does this game include permadeath of characters who die? I like that in theory but in pactice I tend to not get very far in those games as I am always too worried about losing a unit forever.

Apparently you get a game over if any characters fall in battle, so you're forced to keep everyone alive.
Any tactics game that's both complex, difficult, and unforgiving is going to be panned by critics and most gamers, whether it's well designed for vets or not.

Man, they are going for the title of King Shit Kicker Game for this, ain't they? Remember how people freak out in Megaten games where the PC die it's game over? Man!

Since there is no limited edition per see and just separate items, they're sharing the same quantity for the three versions. Once one sells out, they'll all sell out.

Unfair. In some other Strategy/Tactical RPG games like Shining Force, you fail the battle if the main protagonist (the leader) gets killed. Then you have to start the battle all over.
Anyone know the size of the install for Ps4? Any forced Touch elements in the Vita version? Debating between those two versions currently and that info could help push me either way.

japanese box art for the ps4 shows 5 gigs for the install size, and there don't seem to be any touch elements for the vita version (i could be wrong about that).
Reading the impressions in here.
Looks like i'll be holding out for a drop in price before jumping in.
I don't mind a challenge but what's been said in here sound too brutal.

Basically. Since I own the physical PS4 version and digital PSV version. Since the data is interchangeable there is really nothing different about the two cept for sharper graphics for the ugly character models the game uses. lol
Still if you dont mind that the unique and highly challenging gameplay should amuse you!
seems like the ps4 version is getting 2 exclusive scenario DLCs. these are 2 single player missions and boast a high difficulty level. as if the game isnt hard enough as is.
Although I don't think that'll be a definite change for the MSRP, or else they'll have to refund or lower the orders made on limited editions on the NISA Online Store.
PSV edition is actually the most useful considering the game doesnt really look all that different as the graphics are truthfully bad from the start.
Reason why the PSV version is the most useful since there is no omochidashi pack in the US you can use the PSV one with the PS TV or whatever they call the PSV TV and just transfer saves back and forth using PS+. So can play on the handheld and big screen whenever you want.
I have both the PS4 and PSV versions not to mention am one of the few people here that is actually near the end of the game.
Although here in Japan the PS4 version had special DLC just for it apparently. Did not get it myself though as dont need super hard DLC...which is what it was supposed to be.
