Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy 16 Coming to Xbox (VII-R Winter, 16 Out Today)

Maybe it will. The game struggles on base PS5.

Also this, I mean, it can't keep a straight 60fps framerate even on the PS5 Pro, sure, it isn't even patched for it but, I'd have expected a steady framerate at the very least on the Pro.

Gonna be honest here though, this game doesn't look like it was properly optimized, maybe SE ran out of time, maybe they didn't give a shit or maybe, they're technically incompetent, either way, I don't fookin' know nor care enough, it's just that it's long way from being considered a well optimized game...

Oh you'd be surprised how many people there were who thought the only reason FF16 would never come to Xbox is they wouldn't be able to find a way to get it running on Series S.

I'll probably try to look up some older posts and do a supercut later. Might need some time though, they were spread around.
It wasn't unreasonable. It's a demanding game and series s is crap

FF16 is a travisty to the FF name, and everything wrong with modern FF mixed into one game.
FF7 Remake was a movement back in the right direction for FF and showed us what the future could be.
FF7 Rebirth, which I hope comes to Xbox for anyone who wants to play it, finally got us to where a modern FF should be, its beautiful and amazing. Here is hoping future FF's use it as there template and travesty of FF16 is buried in the desert with ET.

I sit very close to my 65 inch Sony A95K and when I tried performance mode the lower resolution was super noticeable, very badly so. So I went with graphics mode for the demo. Ideally they had a third option where they keep the framerate unlocked and let VRR do its magic.

The HDR during those Eikon fights though, holy shit. The special effects are damn sick.

And yet they've made what looks like a perfectly stable version, even during combat, per the first performance test videos.

It's pretty good what not being tied to contractual obligations can do.

I like you 😁
It's exactly how you're describing it.
Performance is very jaggied and it also can't keep up with the 60fps while quality is 30fps (but looks better/cleaner).
The dudes didn't even bother with a 40fps patch never mind a PS5 Pro one, then again, the team got disbanded soon(ish) after the game released so...(someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Either way, it's not exactly a looker like - say - Demons souls remake, Callisto protocol, Horizon FW, and other games which still look "next-gen ®", it's not exactly a bad looking game either mind you, it's just that it's...uneven when it comes to its presentation.

Perfectly said brother, it's definitely a mixed bag visually, but it gets the job done. Ever since they started showing gameplay I've also noticed that animations wise it doesn't touch XV. There's something very impressive about that in XV, also how foliage sways in the wind in that game.

I should give that game another chance some day.

For certain values of "stable" I guess - just look at the frame time graph in the screenshot you posted, there's some very nasty frame pacing coming.

It's just a minor judder for a few frames, then it stabilizes again. I wanted to take a pic mid combat to show the stability. It looks like it's running about the same as the Quality mode does on PS5. Obviously it'll be a lower resolution, I'm guessing it's running the resolution metrics of the Performance mode and some lower visual settings at 30fps, which is pretty much par for course for most big Series S games.

what resolution is this?

Don't know, there's another guy in the video who thinks it's around 720p~900p DRS. A little lower than the 1080p DRS the Performance ran at originally.

I tried the demo on SX in the morning.

Fucking finally, a working Performance mode. Not sure if it's just inherently better or the broader VRR is helping, but the Performance mode feels like a smooth one here. The first city roaming, after the intro and combat tutorial, stuttered a lot on the PS5 when I played it. It feels considerably smoother here.

Some pics from the Quality mode:

A really good deal for the base version online, but that doesn't have the two DLC. Those that DID like this game, are the two DLC worth it? I can always buy them later separately or in a pack.

Can you share the deal please?

Well its telling that Forspoken beats it in performance and IQ. That game even has a 40hz option. Alas, that game runs on Luminous and not UE5.

FFXVI is using a custom engine from CBU3 at SQEX. They're literally building it on the FFXIV bones which is why it has so many issues with performance.

Did you end up buying it?

Nah, will pick up the standard version when it's at or below $39.99. They launched it at a higher price for an old game.

Death Stranding was an impulse buy cause not only was it a $39.99 launch, but it also had a big discount over that in the launch weeks.

Aged very poorly

You play at fixed 720p, and you claim VRR gonna save you
You can't escape...

PS5 also have VRR and better resolution.

John said the PS5 Pro even drops out of 40s, which is way below PS5's VRR range.

Shame about the resolution difference and I hope they address it, but the Performance mode here is a massive improvement in terms of fps.

It is what it is. 🙏

Jesus, these mixed reactions on FF16 aren't helping me much, lol. Here I thought it was widely beloved, but that's FF7R I guess. Bit odd that isn't releasing first.

I've been playing FF since IV on SNES in 1992. I've played every mainline FF and some of the spinoffs.

FFXVI is the first FF in my entire life that I just couldn't bring myself to finish. I mean FFXIII sucked ass, but it was still a somewhat decent JRPG in and of itself, it was only crummy by FF standards. Hell, I played through the whole thing twice. FFXVI, I couldn't even make it past like 8 hours maybe. Just plain bad.

I never asked for or wanted an FFVII remake, despite the original being one of my all time favorites. But Remake and Rebirth are both damn solid modern FFs. If they could just take that template and make a new game with new characters in a new world... it probably would still flop. But hey, I'd be happy.

It's because the Xbox is always in combat, just like its fans.

Supposedly launched at #27 (complete edition) and #43 on Xbox Top Paid during its debut week.

All I can say is oof. They were likely better off putting the effort into a PS5 Pro patch.

The game sucks. I'll get it when it's cheap just to have it sit next to 1-15. Probably will never play it again. I'm running out of patience with SQEX.

I guess we'll see what they price the 5 year old FFVII at.

It's basically them GOW-fying the series. I honestly wonder if it would have sold better as a standalone IP (or at least an official spin-off) instead.

Having that 16 in the name must have been an absolute albatross for normie awareness. My younger brother finished it and loved most of it except for the sidequests, and he's not even remotely a turn-based fan (bought him Metaphor on Steam and he dropped it within an hour lol).

But this proceeded exactly as I expected it would tbh. Absolutely bonkers how they twerked for the Xbox leadership for literal years only to end up with no Gamepass deal, no promotion for the port (literallly a shadowdrop!) and no sales in the end.

If FF7R doesn't do numbers on Xbox too then you have to call that entire initiative a complete bust and a waste of resources/time.

I have severe doubts about that number tbh.

IMO Alinea Analytics is speedrunning the VGChartz arc lol.

All the 4 people interested bought the inferior port two years later.
Square Enix wasn't even smart enough to fool MS into giving them a lot of secure money in advance for a Gamepass deal.
