Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy 16 Coming to Xbox (VII-R Winter, 16 Out Today)

i couldn't do more than 20 hrs of ffxvi. incredibly ponderous & soulless. if you're curious (as i was), i very much recommend at least waiting for a sale (which i did)...

Series S has a single 30fps performance mode and seems to be running pretty much locked at it.

I remember some folks on Gaf had major concerns with how this could possibly run on Series S, back in the day. Looks like they did a pretty good job with this version.

The textures on the Series S version must suck.

Majority of the sales for both games are on PS Consoles.
That's true and from what I seen, SquareEnix seemed disappointed in the sales for both Final Fantasy games on PlayStation and PC and that's the reason why they decided to go with more of a multiplatform strategy. I don't think it's going to work out too well for them though because the audience for Final Fantasy just isn't on Xbox from my observation.

FF16 is incredible.
One of best games I played last few years.
FF7 remake is great too. Better than rebirth

hope for pro patches too... ff16 could use it
FF16 is the worse FF in existence. Also Rebirth > Remake in everyway.

SE is never satisfied, and I think their Multiplatform strategy won't work as well as it has worked for other companies as they expect.

IMO, most of the final fantasy games sales (single player ones) are on PS consoles, but that's just me.

It's an embarrassment to even release it on XBOX. Sweep this game under the rug and pretend it never existed.
i came to the same conclusion as many others - should've been a purely action-based, 20 hour final fantasy spin-off. i mean, serving fucking bowls of stew?! the game just sorta meanders & stumbles along, & seems to have no consistent idea whatsoever of what exactly it's up to...

Keen to try it out but not sure I can stomach a FF story after just completing the awesome Expedition 33. Ultimately, I think I'll wait until it's cheaper.

No it didn't. You had a few people enjoy it and most still saw it for the overrated turd it is.
lol what? Death stranding is highly rated and acclaimed by millions.
It's the fools who still call is walking simulator and clearly didn't play the game

Don't sleep on FF16 and don't listen to tha haters. It is an amazing game and the story is just amazing, side quest are hit and miss but the main story is magical. Nice that more people can enjoy the game now

Final fantasy xvi was so bad it nearly killed the franchise for me.

The only thing im hoping for is that square look at expedition 33 and get inspired to make an incredible final fantasy again.

Give me the airship and looking around islands etc. Basically final fantasy VI style but brought up to today's standards.

If you want to play a Final Fantasy that is actually being good at being an action RPG, you should play Stranger of Paradise.

And the Final Fantasy VII Remake disaster is beyond saving. I hope Square shit out part 3 relatively soon so they can finally leave that behind them.

I have stranger of paradise and still yet to play it. Hopefully I can give it a go sometime.

Somehow people hate everything these days. This game had me in shock what's happening on the screen. And it's a musical orgasm too. It's such an action rpg achievement. I don't expect it to be full out rpg and judge it for what it is and not for what it isn't. And what it is is extremely polished high quality action game with great original story

I've been playing bits of the demo, and so far I'm digging it. The training bit, and I'm gonna continue on from there. Story and characters seem interesting so far, gives me GoT vibes. So I was kinda getting ready for that purchase. Combat feels good too.

But the very negative comments really has me second guessing now. I guess the demo isn't representative of the full experience then? What is so bad about it? It sucks that I can't really rely on the refund thing by Xbox anymore, otherwise I could just see for myself, unless the demo is exactly how the full game starts too.

But I am really not that sure yet if I should purchase for 50 or even 70 bucks.

Finished it in about 70hours.

All in all, it's a...decent game, not the absolute shite like most in here will have you believe.
Story starts strong, very GOT-y like but loses its steam halfway through, gameplay is very DMC-lite but...enemy hit reactions are almost non existent and you'll just be mashing attacks and specials 99% of the time, game is also very easy, only some of the side mission hunts are challenging.
Side missions are MMO-esque where basically you just have to teleport from point A to B and then back to A again, they're basically fetch quests.
Music is really good, the Eicon fights are spectacular.

It's a very..."chill" game to play when you're tired of getting your ass handed to you by strangers online or a souls-like.

It's not the best game out there but it's also not the worst, personally, it kept me (very ) good company for 2 months straight so I can't hate it, it's just that it's not anything "special".

It's the most 7/10 game I've ever played.

Cheers

PS : I really enjoyed the medieval, darker tone in this one, art-direction wise it's pretty good.

Thanks, that's a lot of info, I appreciate it. It does sound like I might be better off just waiting for a sale to grab the edition that has all the DLC too, 70 € now is a big ask.

How are the locations though? I remember seeing a video before it came out and it showed some very cool looking locations to explore. Are these locations indeed worthwhile when it comes to exploration? And I assume the over world is like XV, a bit emptyish with monsters here and there?

The world is like how you described, empty-ish with monsters roaming about.
As for the exploration...well, you'll be doing the explorating bit the 1st time you're visiting a map and after doing so, you'll just be jumping from waypoint to waypoint next time you visit it just to save time ('cause there won't be anything new to find in it), the Witcher 3 this is not.

Locations are mostly good though, lots of picturesque locales with dilapidated houses/villages, windmills, castles etc.

"How this could possibly run on Series S" - well it does run at 30fps so it's not like they performed some kind of miracle there.

If you're feeling the intro and demo, then stick to the main questline for the game and you'll love it. People who got burned out and disliked it are the ones who want to 100% or do all quests.
The side quests are DBZ filler and you don't get much. The moogle one gets you good stuff (if I recall correctly). But just follow the story line through. You aren't tied to level grinding or anything and most abilities are behind story progression so there's nothing to worry about.

Even Velen in Witcher 3 had plenty areas on the map where there was nothing but nature and monsters, but with interesting villages full of fantastic side quests and stories and characters. I wish Jrpgs would look a bit at that instead of insisting on shit side quests.

I'm gonna continue with the demo and when that's done I'll make up my mind, might wait for a good sale and get the version with all the content.

the demo section of the game is the best part by a long shot.

Yeah you can safely ignore FFXVI, its a boring slog of a game.
This has always been my opinion.
But yesterday this opinion changed for some reason. Don't have time now because Space Marine releases tomorrow, but I'll buy it later this year.

Honestly the demo is identical to the rest of the game. There's a reason I knew before most how this game would turn out. I just played it and saw. They even reuse a part of that Phoenix v Ifrit fight for a different fight later with different characters pasted on top instead. Base combat doesn't change much either.

I finished the demo and yeah, now I want more. Especially to see what happens next. But I just checked, it's actually 60 euros for base game and 80 for the complete edition. I'm very reluctant to do that.

Sadly nothing on the sites such as cdkeys either.

Oh you'd be surprised how many people there were who thought the only reason FF16 would never come to Xbox is they wouldn't be able to find a way to get it running on Series S.

I'll probably try to look up some older posts and do a supercut later. Might need some time though, they were spread around.

Yeah, I remember jokes about it running at 480p or something.

Give it a little bit. just came out less than 18 hours ago.

They aren't going to get any significant sales from Xbox. Switch on the other hand has shown to significantly increase sales of past released games like Nier Automata and DQXI

Yeah, true that.

I should be patient, and just get back to playing Robocop, Psychonauts 2 and so much more still in my backlog. 60 let alone 80 euros is just way too much for FF16.

But to a point, I do agree with you.

One of the main reasons Death Stranding's late port on Xbox did so well, and stayed in the top 3, 5 of the paid apps there for months, was that they gave it a very generous launch window discount as a late release.

This really should have been down to $50 for the 'complete' version by now across the board.

ff16 not really bad, it has some fun combat and serviceable story.
on rpg front its pretty bare bones though, approach it like an action adv and you'll have good time.

Completely out of the loop for the last week and my internet out here in the woods is struggling…

How much is 16 and did they release a physical version or no for Xbox?

This.

It's not an RPG in the slightest, still, you can have your fun.

Again, it's neither the worst, nor the best game out there, people act like it killed their dog or something, It's mediocre to good and that's pretty much it.
