Insomniac is the most efficient developers out of the two. This past few years they are able to develop a lot of games and their console games are scoring very well. The Next R and C could be at the 90 range. I won't be surprised if Spider-Man 2 is a 2022 game and Insomniac will have few PSVR2 launch games.

Also, Insomniac was able to create games from multiple genre's already while ND is stuck with 3rd person cinematic shooter. I enjoyed TLOU2 but I felt that was overrated I had more fun playing Days Gone and Spider-Man.

Anyways both are great devs but I don't like the direction ND is going with their games and if ND is working on a new UC I hope ND has another team working on it and Druckmann will stay away from it and focuses on TLOU HBO and TLOU pt 3.

Insomniac in a heartbeat. I'm completely biased since I had a stint working on Ratchet for a few years. :messenger_horns: Loved my time there and that studio is top tier.

Voted Insomniac obviously.

After disappointing me with TLOUP2 and to a lesser extent, Uncharted 4, Naughty Dog has definitely fallen down my personal list of studios within Sony. Only Lost Legacy was excellent which coincidentally wasn't connected to Druckmann which explains a lot.

Insomniac though on the other hand is a studio in which I never played a single game from until 2018 Spider Man and holy shit, what an excellent game that was. I played Ratchet & Clank 2016 just over a year ago and it made me a fan going forward as it was great. Miles Morales was also great and im hyped for Rift Apart which im very much looking forward to playing come June 11th.

Back to Naughty Dog, I don't give two shits about yet another Uncharted game and hope it has nothing to do with Drake, his daughter and company. Shit needs to die. TLOUP3 is a guarantee and I hope that ends the series as well because after part two, I just want that shit concluded and gone. Then we have the rumors of a remake of the original TLOU which was amazing but we don't need a remake of a game that's not even eight years old.

While on the Insomniac side, they've already given me two great games to end last gen for me and have started this gen great as well. Plus, we know we're getting Spider Man 2 in either Fall 2022 or Fall 2023 plus they may bring back Resistance which I never played so I wouldn't mind this at all but would refer a new game over a remastered collection.

So yeah, for me, it's easily Insomniac now and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Naughty Dog. I think their best games achieve a higher level of quality than anything Insomniac does. Although, I think Insomniac has shown to be a more versatile developer.

Considering Insomniac has made an amazing exclusive for the Xbox i think it's obviously ND even though they only make 3rd person shooters now.

ND hasn't made anything I was interested in since Jak 3 versus Insomniac with Ratchet on ps4 and soon to be ps5. If we are talking about snooty oscar winner type developer then I would go with ND but summer block buster goes to Insomniac.

Insomniac has more range. Naughty Dog has become a cinematic third person shooter studio. Wish they would release a new IP that had a bit more oomf in the gameplay department.

Insomniac Games have done a lot for Sony and the PS5 launch with Miles Morales and soon Ratchet & Clank, so I looked up their library and was surprised at how busy they have been the last 20 or so years. While they lack the huge hits of Naughty Dog, they have continuously produced quality content for Sony.

Notable Playstation games from both studios:

Naughty Dog
1996 - Crash Bandicoot
1997 - Crash Bandicoot 2
1998 - Crash Bandicoot: Warped
1999 - Crash Team Racing
2001 - Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
2003 - Jak II
2004 - Jak 3
2005 - Jak X: Combat Racing
2007 - Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
2009 - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
2011 - Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
2013 - The Last of Us
2016 - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
2020 - The Last of Us: Part II

Insomniac Games
1996 - Disruptor
1998 - Spyro the Dragon
1999 - Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!
2000 - Spyro: Year of the Dragon
2002 - Ratchet & Clank
2003 - Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
2004 - Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
2005 - Ratchet: Deadlocked
2006 - Resistance: Fall of Man
2007 - Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
2008 - Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty
2008 - Resistance 2
2009 - Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
2011 - Resistance 3
2013 - Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus
2016 - Ratchet & Clank (ps4 remake)
2018 - Marvel's Spider-Man
2020 - Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
2021 - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
They're equal depending on how you look at them.

For high production value, polish, storytelling, and cinematic experience, that's easily Naughty Day the last 15 years.

For gameplay and memorable characters, Insomniac.

Santa Monica is probably the second most talented... But their output and variety is shit.

GOW again
hey lets do another GOW

They are personally my second studio below ND, but they need to have both a New IP And God of War this gen to be in this conversation

The new GOW might as well be a completely different game though lets be real they just love Kratos.

And I heard they are also utilized in a variety of different ways to assist and mentor other studios.

Insomniac certainly has way more versatility to what they craft. One look at their full library including games outside of PlayStation and its hard to argue against them. However, ND has really nailed in that cinematic story telling game at a level that even Insomniac cant quite achieve consistently . I lean ND but frankly they are both really close imo.

I think this sums it up perfectly.

Without a doubt, Naughty Dog is Sony's premier developer.
Naughty Dog is home to the ICE Team. A technology group whose work are used by the Playstation Studios, including Insomniac.
It helps them kick start game development easier and faster and using advanced (graphics) techniques developed by this group.
Currently, Insomniac is among our favorites as they have recently released a remastered Spiderman, Miles Morales, patched up Ratchet and Clank to 60fps and about to release their next game. An amazing developer with great work ethics and efficiency but not in the same league as Naughty Dog. We all want Naughty Dog to leave their comfort zone and develop something completely new. They are a exceptionally talented developer though.

if insomniac had 4-5 years to make a game I’d love to see what they’d come up with

Objectively, Naughty Dog. But subjectively, Insomniac.

I have nothing against TLOU and I recognize the immense accomplisments of the game. But I would personally prefer to play a Rachet & Clank sequel to a TLOU or Uncharted sequel if I had to choose just one. It's just my personal gaming tastes tend to align better with Insomniac.

That's a tough one. Naughty Dog made a lot of amazing games, I'm a huge fan of their Crash games in the 32bit era. I really like Uncharted and the first The last of Us.

As for Insomniac, also love their Spyro series on the PS1. Ratchet is always fun and I, for one, love the Resistance series, I truly think is an underrated franchise. Spider-Man is also amazing.

I can't choose between those two. They are the cream the la crop of Sony Studios.

But if I must choose, maybe Naughty Dog by an inch. Just because The Last of Us Part 1 is the best game I ever play to this day.

Both are amazing creators, and Both have created more cool games than MS with their now 20+ first party devs combined. Having said that. I have more ND games than Insomniac games, I love Resistance Games and I wish I was into super heroes games, but i am not, I won't ever play Spiderman nor Miles Morales. I am waiting whatever comes next from both Developers.

Insomniac by a mile. ND only have made 2 exceptional games that are basically the same in design while Insomniacs portfolio is fcking deep in many genres. Not even close.

Time to take a second look at this, Insomniac is carrying the PS5.

Some mention Sony Santa Monica but they have too few games to compare, they are mostly the God of War studio more than anything.

Insomniac makes mass appealing games, they're slowly becoming Marvel Games basically, but ND is Sony's technological powerhouse, everything you see in their games is later transfered to other studios (which is most likely the ICE team job nowadays).

Naughty Dog is making:
Uncharted 4/Lost Legeacy Remastered
TLOU remake
A standalone MP game
A New IP
The Last of Us Part III to end the gen
Their Game director/ Vice preident is also writing a huge HBO show simultaneously.

No one is fucking with their quality to quantity output this gen, Insomniac is firmly in second.

Has Insomniac ever made a game better than Last of Us 1?
Yes, Spider Man and Sunset Overdrive.

I would say Insomniac out of these 2 because at least they make games that I would enjoy playing. Naughty Dogs "cinematic experiences" do nothing for me at all. Ratchet and Clank doesn't either, but Sunset Overdrive did and Spider Man is the only PS exclusive that I wish I could buy on PC or Xbox.

Trying to think about Sony's studios overall and I honestly don't know who I would think is the best because they just haven't made games that appeal to me in around 10 years. Guess I'm not the best person to ask.

Haven't played Spider-Man, but I find that hard to believe.

No to Sunset Overdrive, and I love that game. Underrated gem.
Opinions are opinions. I struggled through about 3 hours in to TLOU and couldn't put it down fast enough. Just a terrible "game" to me. Sunset however I thought was amazing. Spider Man, from what little I've played, is basically just Spider Man 2 / Amazing Spider Man but better, and I loved those games.

That fact that we can trade blows back and forth which PS Studio is better is a great place to be in as a Sony Pony amiright?

Naughty dog might be known for more visual prowess.

But after Ratchet I dunno. It’s not as big of a game as you’ll get from ND but it’s uhhh ..

Actually fun. :messenger_unamused:

So I’ll say insomniac.

Insomniac games are repetitive, but at least they have gameplay. Not a fan of any of those two. That's why I don't own PlayStation consoles I guess.

I'd argue that Naughty Dog are still the Sony darling, but Insomniac are gunning for that crown going by their their recent output.

Insomniac delivered one of the PS5's launch showcase titles - the original being one of the best PS4 titles and probably the best superhero game of all time - and then followed it up with the PS5's graphical showcase, and are now set to deliver a next-gen sequel and a brand new game... and Naughty Dog are delivering unnecessary "remasters", a deeply unnecessary remake, and multiplayer title whose viability as a standalone game is yet to be seen? TLOUIII hasn't been confirmed, and judging from the reception to TLOUII, they'll have an uphill battle getting half their fans back on board. From my perspective, Insomniac are in their prime, and Naughty Dog are stuck in "TLOU land" on projects few people are pining for.
