The trade deadline really has become a boring time in the NBA, nothing ever really happens. It blows my mind how many teams are willing to take a chance on their superstar leaving rather than deal them for assets.

Boston is fucking dumb if they don't think it's worth giving up the Brooklyn pick for Paul George. Ainge buying into his own asset hype.
Danny: So how about Bradley, Crowder, and Amir Johnson and a first, maybe from Memphis?

The odds that that pick (if it even is #1, which is only a 25% chance at best) ever turns into a player that can give you the same value as one year of Paul George is incredibly low.
At some point people have to stop fantasizing about draft picks assuming they all turn into superstars and realize the value of actual, legitimate proven superstars.

The Brooklyn pick should be a given in any George negotiations. Did Danny think Larry was gonna do him a solid?

Well, we've already seen Ibaka and Cousins be traded.
But yeah, I think teams and GMs tend to be conservative, with good reason. There's even more reason to be when you have 2 (or maybe 3) teams that are clearly such a cut above the rest of the league.
I don't understand posts like these. It's a negotiation and it's complex. You don't make your best offer off the bat, and both sides value things differently. Do you believe Danny Ainge could've had Paul George for just the '17 nets pick, and said no?
What could that be for, I wonder? Come on to Boston, Andrew.

Ainge has a history of overvaluing his assets. This is not a new thing.

What could Dallas give up to make this deal with it? Does Colangelo really want Yogi Ferrell or something? Anyway having Noel on the inside could extend Dirk's career for like two more years.
I wouldn't say he's overvalued them - it's those assets (also called players) that have transformed the team from 25 wins 3 years ago to a top 5-6 team in the league today.

Weird. All discussions have been that Philly was getting rid of Okafor, and now out of absolutely nowhere Noel is shipped out.
I believe the conversations are going something like this.

Cuuubbbeees!!! You glorious bastard! Barnes + Noel is a decent starting point to build up from.
Trust the process. Another high end pick for Sixers. They now have the rights to swap with the Kings, their own pick, the Mavs picks and potentially the Lakers pick.
It's a conditional first rounder, so we'll need to hear more there to really evaluate the trade. Ditching Noel and potentially keeping Okafor would be a strange move.
Bogut also headed to Philly as part of that deal. Hmm

I think some people hear "number 1 pick" and assume it's going to be a super star, when in reality the odds of getting a franchise superstar with a number 1 overall pick are fairly minuscule.

Wow, really? What's the gameplan for the Sixers here then? Would've guessed Noel was way more valuable than that.
I like the move a ton for the Mavs. They've had a ton of success with players that fit Noel's template before.

I disagree. All the players they have that are significant pieces for them were acquired without any of the assets they got in the Brooklyn deal.
They've had chances to make deals over the past few years, and every time all Ainge does is talk about deals he had on the table. He never executes.

Is Paul George even that good? Like I get he had the one great series against LeBron, but outside of that he seems like completely interchangeable with like 15-20 SGs and SFs in the league, and he's int he bottom half of that.

I think he may be slightly overrated, but he's still a top 15 player in the NBA

Paul George is a very very good player. I actually think he's a bit overrated, but he's still much better than any non IT player on the Celtics right now.
