They're just kidding because it's NBC.
The NFL production is the highest caliber of sports broadcasts. Soccer is low on the list, world cup is when it's at it's best and thats because a ton of money gets dumped into it.
With Rocket League you can do a lot with little.
As for twitch did you not see their numbers during the RLCS championship the other week?

Wealth of talent wasted on a sport where huge amounts of the game aren't spent scoring.
The goals are excited, the game itself is Ambien.
Basketball and baseball are pretty wildly different sports. I find basketball thoroughly entertaining. And I find Rocket League much more enjoyable than soccer/football. Pretty sure there's not a right or wrong answer to any of these being more entertaining than the others.

Yep, they're totally right. Whenever I accidentally watch some LoL or Dota I basically have no idea what's happening. It's impossible to follow if you're not already into it. Rocket League is extremely simple and immediately understandable. Ball goes into goal, and that's literally it. No other rules, nothing to understand. Then you can just sit back and marvel at the crazy shit the best players can do in this game.

My eyes glaze over when watching star craft or LoL/Dota because it looks like a bunch of colorful nonsense happening. You really need to know about the game and play it to understand.
CS Go and shooters are a little easier because people understand guns. But FPS's tend not to be great spectator sports.
I used to think soccer was boring too but once you learn to appreciate the game and players movements I think its a top 3 sport. (Hockey and american football being the others for me.)
But people who think soccer is boring to watch and don't want to put in the time to learn more and yet watch LoL/Dota tournaments are a little hypocritical.
