NBC's Community Official Thread - the next Arrested Development/Office/30 Rock?

I'm going to burn down NBC's head office when this show inevitably gets cancelled.

Let's face it, shows like Community never last long. It's suttle humor. Humor that requires the viewer to actually have a brain to get most of the jokes; something the average North American doesn't have. The Office was on it's death bed around season 3 I think? Then Steve Carell became a big movie star which pretty much saved that show.

Only way Community makes it past Season 2 is if we get Alison Brie to pose for Playboy. Draw some attention.

But, let's all enjoy this show while we still have it.

There has not been a single person who I've talked to who has seen the show who did not think it was great. The Office only really had Steve Carrell. This has Joel McHale, Chevy Chase, Jon Oliver (whatever he's worth), and an increasingly popular cast (I don't think they had Jenna Fischer on AOTS). Pessimism has no place here.

Edit: you want subtle humor, you can go to 30 Rock. This is like Chris Rock compared to that in terms of subtlety. And that show has a smaller but steady audience and it shows no signs of stopping.

Please tell me that judging a show's worth based on them being on AOTS is subtle humor.

Absolutely. Jenna Fischer was naked on the cover of Wired, for heaven's sake. :lol

Edit: although I am serious about my confidence in the show.

30 Rock has a major cast. Steve Carell is a big movie star. Community has nobodies in comparison. Having said that...
Curb Reference
I don't think having big names in a shows cast has anything to do with it succeeding.

Joey failed after the monster that was Friends and he was as big a name as any during that time.

Maybe I'm being pessimistic but AD left a bad taste in my mouth and I guess I'm just bracing myself for the worst.

I never could get into 30 Rock. I know it has struggled to stay on air in the past. I don't know how it's doing ratings wise now. Tina Fey is in bed with Lorne Michaels and NBC, though. So it doesn't matter how bad ratings are. :D

Chevy Chase is not a nobody.

I know I'm probably missing a layer of depth from the show but I could never get into 30 Rock. I couldn't find any of the characters likable. I'm not saying the show is bad but could someone explain what I'm missing out on?

Other comedies besides Community that I do enjoy are Seinfeld, The Office, and Arrested Development.

He isn't a nobody, truth. And I love him. Other than him though the rest of the cast isn't exacty mainstream. But like I said I don't think having big names matters much.

I was originally just talking about the "subtle" humor of the show that doesn't really "click" with the average TV viewer. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I'd love nothing more than Modern Family and Community to be on for the next 10 years. I just hope NBC and ABC give them enough time to build an audience.

The "back door" / anal sex joke was already deflated by the time Pearce delivered it in the scene Jeff and the teacher get caught making out by the gang.

I'm not sure where the worry of this show being close to be axed are coming from... I thought this show as doing decent enough, or am I missing something?

LOL I love Annie's reaction to Britta holding Troy's hand about to reveal their tapdancing secret, and she immediately gasps thinks Britta was about to say they were dating or about to get married.

.. seriously? you're judging popularity on AOTS appearances?

The Office has a great cast.

What's so great about Joel McHale anyway? He isn't funny.

honestly I've been thinking about this episode all day. It's really not that bad.
You're just saying that because Dan Harmon pried open your mouth and shat in it.

I appreciate this post!

What the fuck at the hate of this episode. I thought it was by far the most charming and touching episode so far. I didn't laugh as much but the rest of the content made up for that.

Like I said, after watching it 4 times I take back most of my hate. It's DEFINITELY not my favorite episode but its still "good".

I was so busy re-watching the latest episode of Community over and over, I forgot to watch Dollhouse :(

Gotta check it out later online after work...

:lol if only I had that kind of time, holy shit.

Community avatar group meeting!

First order of business: We are awesome

Second order of business: Alison Brie is hawt lol

Final order of business: I'm noticing some hate building towards people with Community avatars. We are taking over GAF and an opposition is building. We must stand united! Be strong everyone.

Love this show, almost as much as Arrested Development and must have watched each episode at least three times.

Last episode was pretty good, especially Donald but they really need to bring John Oliver back, the Dean is kinda getting old.

Edit: Favourite quote from this episode:

Troy: "I'm spending a lot of money on break-away clothing..." :lol

I entered a thread about Kenny vs. Spenny to offer up the opinion that they in fact are not, nor have they ever been, funny. I was responded to by someone who simply said "You watch COMMUNITY." Or something like that. I was like "wat." My avatar knows no rivals.

It didn't air last night. Finale is next Friday at 8.

WTF? I thought I was bad sometimes watching an episode twice with the gf.

This thread is funnier than the show sometimes. :lol

It took you 4 viewings to properly critique this? Its puzzling.

It's actually the episode that turned me around on the show. Definitely the best that I've seen this season. No avalanche of cringe-worthy avatars or acts of creepy fandom can sully that episode. I'm finally in.
