This episode went so against the grain with a lot of the characters. Troy doing the ballet? I mean, the humor of Troy was that he's a tough jock who has a bit of a soft side, which is why he and Abed can relate to each other so well. Not that he's borderline gay. I'm really scared that this episode is going to end up defining these characters in a terrible way forever.

Kind of like when Angela licked her cat. Fuck that.

I thought the episode was great. Played well with the characters and everyone was involved. The Dean's creepiness was awesome. Begs the question, who is #1? Troy?

edit: borderline gay? wtf

Why does one have to be borderline gay to dance?

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine

I don't know what you guys are smoking, I thought it was above-average. Not as many LOL moments as the awesome Christmas episode but I imagine that's a tough one to top.

Did anyone else think Jeff's hands were freakishly big when he was sitting on the couch in the "Explain to my friends how screwing the teacher is OK" scene? I don't know if it was just the lens or his hands are really that big but it was a little distracting.

Also, ha at anyone complaining the characters are acting out of character. There were only 13 episodes before this and while the cast was lovable, they were still pretty stereotypical sitcom tropes. Anything to get away from that is a good thing.

Awesome. SO much better than the turd they laid down last week. This was totally up to the level I expect. Also, fuck Annie and Britta, I want to bang the professor.

I rewatched the episode and i still find it good. Not one of the better episodes, but still good.

Kinda like how Britta hits the pianist with her hat.

Just read through the thread. Seems like lack of Annie = crappy episode here at GAF :lol
Perhaps people don't like the episode because it tries to move the plot forward at the cost of big group scenes where the characters pile punchline upon punchline. I really like how the cast come together so well during the study group scenes.

A deserved response when you're calling him out on your opinion. I (and a few others here, apparently) liked this episode, and thought it worked a lot better than the Jack Black one last week. And I like Jack Black.

Definitely not "horrible," especially compared to almost any other show. I mean, did you see The Office tonight? Yeeesh.

But I guess that's just my opinion on your opinion, so you have a right to call me a poop head. Isn't the internet great?

So basically, its bad because they broke the formula? Theres not really a plot to push forward, anyways. Its pretty much 100% character driven. I for one am glad when they shake things up.

I like how the black guy and the lesbian are the ones are made to be the butt of the jokes.

Typical.
It takes an MIT guy to figure it out! :lol

Also, very enjoyable episode and I felt a change of tone in this episode, a welcome change imo.

I haven't had a chance to read all the comments yet, wanted to put it out there..

Fantastic episode! A return to form for them, because it was about the central characters and not stupid guest stars!

One thing I can't believe they've done already is show us Britta is capable of getting jealous about Jeff and another woman, this soon... oh well, we knew it was coming at some point.

Can't wait to ransack this thread for new gifs :)

I loved last night's episode. It was definitely more focused on character development than usual, but it still had a lot of great moments. Even though it was Britta/Troy centric, the best lines belonged to Pierce (during the recital) and the dean (in the questionnaire scene) :lol . Also, I'm tempted switch from Team Britta to Team Statistics Teacher.

And yeah wow for the hate this episode has gotten so far. Must be lack of Annie giffable moments...

I mean... yeah it was different... they evolved the characters, but at least it's these characters and no annoying guest stars. It didn't even have a single scene talking about Jeff/Annie/Abed's job in the school paper anymore thank god.

Troy doing Ballet is off and Britta, but I think that is the point. To keep them confined to those stubborn roles, only so much can come of it.... but yeah a role like this is a bit too soon, not that the role itself was bad. The show has always been about slowly evolving each of their characters from the very beginning as the Community circle changes them a bit a time.

I've confirmed that Gillian looks much better with her overly styled hairstyle than when she wears a ponytail.

Abed's dancing at the end was priceless, as were the Dean's three-way questionairre and Pearce's comments. It seems Abed is a jack of all trades on this show for a supposedly geek guy... he knows all sorts of languages, pop-culture references, he's a better athlete, and can dance... what else can this guy do?

what's the name of the song playing when abed is dancing on stage near the end?
I'm not at home at the moment so I can't double check, but I believe it's a song by Kate Nash.

Wait, GAF hated this? I thought it was the best episode of the series.

Its only behind the Halloween and X-mas episodes. I dont know what the haters of this ep want out of this show*. Best non-holiday ep of the show.

* actually I do, sadly

Kind of hard to ignore when the only avatars generated from this episode thus far are still mostly of Annie, and they are not that interesting in comparison to previous ones :lol

I just wish this thread could be split in two, so that the creepy Annie stalkers could do their own thing, and the rest of us could do ours.

I thought the Christmas ep was the last one? I just assumed and haven't checked torrents since, what's it up to then?

THis latest episode is 14, it's 2 episodes since the Christmas one.

You only missed 2 episodes since that Christmas episode.

Jan 14th: Investigative Journalism
Jan 21st: Interpretive Dance

Pffft, Solo made it seem like I've missed hundreds....
Was there a break at least? That christmas ep seems like it came out ages ago.

Yeah it was off for about a month. The Christmas episode was Dec 10th, and then the first new episode was Jan 14th.

I think they tried too hard to sell the "Britta gets flustered watching Jeff show he is relationshippy with another woman" moment. The scene was embarressing, but not for the awkward dancing. Having said that...I actually am starting to like them as a will they/won't they couple... to me, those relationships I can relate with more than people who just easily hook up like it ain't no thang.

Was it me or was Britta hotter this episode than the rest of the season so far? I'm not sure why that is...

Yeah. Perhaps she wasnt as bitchy. And I think she looks better with her hair tied back.

And I am infatuated with Alison Brie almost as much as the next man, but the stalk factor on this entire forum has gone into overdrive. You cant tell who a third of the posters are anymore by their avatars due to the fact that so many damn people have Alison Brie avatars. And some are so damn similar or identical (Except a slight zoom in) that makes it even harder. And when they change them every single week to have the most up to date version too.

I suspect despite this storyline, we probably won't ever see Troy/Britta do anymore dancing or mention it in future episodes that much or at all.

I thought the episode was alright. I'm glad we got a somewhat real Britta storyline for once. It's "hilarious" how Pierce gets more and more racist each episode. I'm sure they're setting up a plot for him and Shirley making sweet, sweet love.

I also don't like the teacher relationship because she looks like my aunt 20 years ago so I find it nearly impossible to be attracted to her.

Wait, GAF hated this ep? I thought it was above average. Doesn't come close to Debate 109 but still funny as hell :lol The Dean is actually one of the best characters IMO, or at least he was yesterday without a doubt.

The stats teacher could be fun as a regular. But I'm in Wait-and-see mode on that.

I have the same thing with Lauren Graham. She reminds me so much of my cousin.

I didn't hate it, I just didn't like it as much as I liked the better ones. Which does not mean it was bad by any means.

I know how that is as well; we should have a thread for it. My sister looks a lot like Jessica Simpson - because of this, I never found that woman attractive at all. Period.

I dont know anyone that looks like Jessica Simpson, and I still dont find her attractive.

Obviously; Troy only has so much money to spend on tear-away clothing.

Just wanted to pop in and say I had a Community DVR marathon last night and it is now my second favorite 30 minute sitcom behind HIMYM

Love the dynamic between the whole group it rarely ever seems forced like I thought it was going to be. Great show.
