NBC's Community Official Thread - the next Arrested Development/Office/30 Rock?

I thought it was a good episode. It was chill, and wasn't trying to pile the jokes on like last week. Even though I liked both episodes.

As far as the Britta/Jeff stuff goes, as long as they keep it light-hearted I'm fine with it. If they play up the will-they/won't-they stuff too much then it'll start to get to me. Like Chuck, which is an amazing show, but plays the romantic angst card way too much.

Other than that, whatevs.

Britta has no reason to act the way she did during the dance, she has rejected Jeff's advances time and time again and telling people she doesn't like him like that. So that was kinda outta left field.

There's a difference between not wanting something and knowing you can't have something.

NBC’s night was little better, as Community fell 13% from last week to a 2.1 rating. and Parks & Recreation fell 5% to a 2.0 rating. The 2010 debut of The Office may have surprised some viewers, falling 12% from its last original episode to a 3.7 rating (Edit: Since it was a clip show, your ratings comparison mileage may vary). But with an Office lead-in, 30 Rock was up 22% from its poor showing last week to a 2.8 rating.

Its the fucking classic real life trope, man. Women fullstop find you suddenly 5x more desirable when youre taken.
Right. It's kind of absurd to apply the term "trope" to a common real life phenomenon.

Great episode. Annie stalkers who have lost all sense of perspective need not apply.

Definitely Chevy Chase's best so far. He killed during the dance scene.

He killed during the opening scene. He overplayed it way too hard during the dance scene. It was funny for about 10 seconds and then it just got too repetitive too fast.

Even though this last one is far from being a standout episode, I still enjoyed it a hell of a lot better anything else on TV... 'gotta rewatch it.

What the shit? I just dont get you guys. LAST week was a terrible episode, not this week.

Last week was phenomenal in portraying the awkwardness that comes along with a forced member or friend. We have all had times when we were ashamed or embarrassed of an individual that leeched into our group. The person would not go away and would result in the immoral attempt of ignoring and belittling them. But just when we gave in, we realized that the problem was not the individual, but the group. Last week's episode epitomized that fact and was genius television making.

I thought it was a pretty solid episode, especially in comparison to last weeks. I actually like Jack Black, but I got tired of cringing whenever he said something.

Light on the funny, but it made me consider pledging my support for Team Britta, something I never would have done earlier

This week wasn't great, but it was still good. Show's had better episodes, but I still laughed a bunch.
Apparently the show doesn't run next week, we have to wait until the 4th.

Great episode. Don't really agree with the complaints here.

Actually felt bad for Brita at the end, even though she always said no and whatnot.

One complaint, however, is that the episode needed more (or any) Sr. Chang!

It wasn't the lowest ratings ever, there's tons of 2.0s and even a 1.9. The important demo, the one advertisers and networks care about, and the one that influences renewal prospects is the 18-49 number. With that said, last night was disappointing either way, so...

Last week was phenomenal in portraying the awkwardness that comes along with a forced member or friend. Community is supposed to be a comedy, not a drama. If the only thing you have going for last week's episode is that it accurately depicts awkward situations, then it means it failed its primary purpose and was bad at what it was supposed to do. (Which isn't to say it wasn't enjoyable, it just didn't meet expectations for its kind of show)

this show offers little more than a few chuckles a week to me. i don't think any of the characters are much more than caricatures with no real chemistry or heart. the previous weeks episodes are pretty much gone from my brain as soon as a new one starts.

The show needs John Oliver again. The Psychology episode is one of the best ones.
Yup. Watched some Jon Oliver's Stand Up Show last night before I fell asleep and went "we really need some Duncan Principle-age up in this show." Forgot about that until now :lol

Not a particularly great episode. Dean and Chevy has some good lines. The dance scene should have been a little longer a la Somewhere Out There.

I like that they paired Gillian and Troy. These kind of random pairings are the biggest strength of the show.

Honestly, the music during the dance scene was probably the highlight of the ep.

That's what I wanted to say. I love the fact they pair up different people for different dynamics in the group. THey should, this is still a new show ... shouldn't be stuck in patterns like some people are thinking. And characters will evolve.

I can't wait to rewatch this when I get back home from work in a couple hours.

**Also throw in the missing Senor Chang

Its only behind the Halloween and X-mas episodes. I dont know what the haters of this ep want out of this show*. Best non-holiday ep of the show.

* actually I do, sadly
Okay, since apparently a lack of love for this episode is being interpreted as Annie stalking, as someone who is creeped out by the Annie gifs I now feel the need to elaborate a bit.

So far, what's sold me on this show is Abed/Troy, the range of character pairings, and the semi recurring chartacters (Oliver, Higgins, Vaughn). Without those, it's a dime a dozen sitcom. When they are are well done (Cool Abed Films, Carpe Diem, Somewhere Out There), it's great. This episode has a good pairing, but poorly executed the finale. Abed didn't have many good lines. Stats teacher sucks as a recurring character. That left Pierce carrying most of the episode, and while Pierce can be a good side character, any episode relying on him for most of the humor is in an uphill climb.

I don't think it was a terrible episode, but it was nowhere near what this show is capable of, which was all the more frustrating because they did have a few of the pieces in place. And frankly, the show really does need to perform at that level to be in the same tier as the subject line list.

I suppose if you don't like the characters the storyline focuses on, of course you would find the episode weaker. I am glad they rotate and do different characters. It's not always about schoolgirl Annie or Abed and Troy and their antics, despite I enjoy it all.

I actually love all the characters, but I have yet to be proven that Pearce's character can little more than archaic racist/sexist/inappropriate old man guy.

People didn't like this episode? Thought it was among the upper tier of epiosdes. Great theme and moves things along for the characters. almost everyone except for shirley had something to do. This season is pretty great.

Yeah still very strong. Also enjoyed the atypical Troy/Britta pairing.

and you gotta be delusional if you thought they were planning on dropping the Jeff/Britta angle.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The dynamic pairings are what make this show click.

I also enjoyed the credit sequence with the crossword puzzle that had the names of the characters... but they forgot to fit Shirley in there :lol

Kind of hard to ignore when the only avatars generated from this episode thus far are still mostly of Annie, and they are not that interesting in comparison to previous ones :lol
That is what you get when you rely on creepy Brie stalkers to deliver avatars. Besides, Annie is a photogenic little bundle of energy which is far easier to turn into an avatar than say Abed's deadpan deliveries and Chang's often drawn out scenes.

Annie shaking her head and waving her hands = adorable.
Troy shaking his head and waving his hands = a guy doing stuff.

Here is a guide on how to make gifs. The thread title says Mac-Age, but as far as I know all the programs mentioned are available on Windows.

Normally, I only smile and go "Yeah, I got that and I loved it," and maybe chuckle a few times, but this last episode had me actually laughing and giggling. I think it was due to some of the more subtle facial expressions and jokes muttered under someone's breath. I watched this and three episodes of Modern Family, so I had a great day in regards to comedy.

It really seems like the hate is coming from the lack of Annie moments. Deny it all you wish, but deep down you know it's true. No gifs to relieve all of that sexual frustration. :P

(I'm sorry, Costanza. I know I'm not living up to my goal of being your perfect junior. You picked me last May and I have failed you. Oh well, at least we can still agree on the fact that NBC loves to can excellent dramacomedies after fantastic first seasons. and that Bryan Fuller is awesome)

Wait a minute...Don Glover's twitter....is he wearing the alternate uniform Braves hat!!?

Yeah, go to hell teams Annie and Brita. TEAM DONG LOVER GO.

Well, mostly I just wanted to talk up the Don Glover as the official coolest member of the cast now, rather than put down the "teams". You're right, the stuff with Gillian isn't nearly as bad as the stuff with Brie

Hey no need to knock Team Britta... they're relatively quiet in comparison to everything else in this thread.

I <3 Britta. Annie is cute and ideal for the geek, but, Britta is just freaking awesome.
