Yeah, just finished watching it on Hulu.

I love this show already. Though I hope they tone down the whole Jeff desperately trying to get into Britta's pants thing. That's already getting a little old.

Everything else is great though.

"We should talk about Jeff's tardiness."
"Don't use that word around Abed!"
I'm personally hoping they into a 'new hot chick every week' rhythm of girls for Jeff to hit on. I'm really not interested in another Jim & Pam coupling.

One great aspect of the community college setting is that they can introduce an endless stream of new characters without explanation.

I fucking burst out laughing at this part. :lol

this was my first episode of COMMUNITY, and i thought it was a big labored. just. . . trying a bit too hard to be snarky and clever, and not really being all that funny. i donnu. i'll watch again next week and hope it picks up.

conversely, i also watched my first episode of PARKS AND RECREATION last night and thought it was comedy gold. amy poehler <3

Two notes:

It still did better than Parks and Recreation (4.2 million).

Grey's Anatomy premiered this week, so it faced competition it didn't have to deal with last week. The office was down also (although not as much):

"The Office" season premiere (8.1 million, 4.8/8)/"Community" series premiere (7.7 million, 4.6/8)

vs.

"The Office" (7.3 million, 4.4/7)/"Community" (5.4 million, 3.4/5)

NBC has much bigger problems on Thursdays than Community's ratings.

Parks and Rec and SNL Weekend Update essentially tied with Vampire Diaries in the demo ratings during the prior hour (1.8 vs. 1.7). The thought that a major broadcast network like NBC was almost beaten by a show on the CW is just amazing (and not in a good way).

That's what NBC is probably shitting bricks about right now.

That's generally my feeling after the first two episodes. It's got some fun moments, but it's really forcing a lot. I'm also sensing an awful pattern of McHale's character being a dick for the first two acts before having a big moment of kind-hearted selflessness for the climax. That could get old real quick.

what does the whole 4.4/7 part of the rating thing mean?
Ratings/share

Ratings = percentage of household televisions (turned on or off) in the US tuned to that show

Share = percentage of household televisions (turned on) in the US tuned to that show

I enjoyed the episode, this is a great show. I love the randomness, which is why I love "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" as well, and having them back-to-back is great.

Wait, what?

First, how would they get the ratings for TVs turned off at the time, and why the hell would it matter?

And second, how could Share possibly be greater than Ratings? If Ratings are TVs turned on or off, and Share is just TVs turned on, Share should not be able to be greater than Share.

In answer to your second question, it's not a raw number. It's a percentage, so yes that is possible.

Look. Nielsen estimates ~115 million television households in the US. Ratings are the percentage of those households watching the program. The share factors out all of the households not watching television at the time.

As soon as the Amiee Mann song started I was in tears. A little cocktail induced mind you but that entire sequence was hilarious.

Decent ep. I did a little eye roll with the classic Chevy physical comedy but I can deal for now. I'll stick with it and see what transpires. I can see the whole 'get in water filters pants thing' getting old but I get the arch.

I liked just about everything about the last episode except for Chang's introduction. The presentation was riiiight on the edge of being too wacky, but the cuts to the classroom's reactions had me rolling.

The rap at the end was amazing.

...Hmmm.

I mean, the show as whole is really enjoyable. All the characters are likable and the writing's smart.

But the comedy never really pops. If they want the show to be glorious, they're gonna have to amp the drama and push the show more towards a Freaks and Geeks vein.

Also... that is WAY too big for an avatar.

So how do people feel about this show?

I'm not trying to rile people up, I'm just curious. I personally find the main character completely unlikable, the whole storyline with him and the girl really old already, and Chevy Chase is extremely annoying. Also, that storyline about the Guam activism didn't make any sense to me, it just felt so completely random. Why did they get so excited about being activists for Guam? Why were they looking to the lead girl character as such a role model?

I dunno, the throw-away jokes were funny, but the main plot line was really stupid.
Incorrect.

didnt like this episode as much as the pilot.

chevy chase's character sucks and the main guy is getting to be kinda douchey with his constant going after the blonde chick.

still, it's alright. better than parks and recreation but its no office.

what rap are people talking about? i dont remember one

I've seen the first two episodes. It's funny but I'm going to go ahead and answer the question in the thread title and say no. But it is better than My Name Is Earl. :P

They played "Daylight" at the end. Someone must really like Matt & Kim.
Actually it was Good Ol' Fashioned Nightmare. Good song.

Really enjoyed the second episode. It's been just a great TV season so far.

No. The first episode played Good Ol' Fashioned Nightmare a few times, the second one played Daylight at the end.

The first two episodes of 30 rock were horrible, i can't believe the show's pilot got picked up. 30 rock is a lot better now. I expect Community to become better with time.. though it's already funny as hell. The only problem i have is that the dude from "the soup" is a bit too "godlike". Way too much focus on him.

Chevy chase is awesome in this.

Not needing the book for the class? Yep, this nails the Community college atmosphere.
I am in a phd program in a non community college. Not needing the book is something that comes with the college territory.

Head cut off with a salami sword lmao
