I can't help being a softie. However, I'd happily PM you his phone number so you can give him a call and scare it out of him. You seem like you've got the enthusiasm for it. Haha

I'll PM him.

I don't like people being taken advantage of when trying to do a nice thing.

WTF, why wouldn't you use Prosper or one of the peer to peer lending sites if you need to loan folks money that bad.

Never loan out money you can't afford to lose...especially to strangers on the internet..

Again, WTF

/r/borrow seemed to work perfectly well for a lot of people and I just liked the idea of it.

And I've already mentioned that I knew going into this that I could very well lose the money. And I also mentioned that I could afford to lose the money if it did come to that.

No offense but you shouldn't give out personal information that wasn't meant to be shared. You got scammed so learn from this instead of having others do your dirty work..

Ahahahaha you loaned $200 to a druggie and expected to get it back.

Maybe next time you should do a background check before you go throwing money away.
Cot dam.

There isn't any code of honor to someone who skips out on a promise to pay.

It's the same as companies selling your info to a collection agency!

Lol, cant say I'm surprised.

Gotta say one of the better decisions Evilore made was when he made that post a while back saying no more threads on GAF where people basically beg for money. Not saying that most would, but its just too easy for people to scam or make up sob stories and take advantage of others kindness. Always follows the same pattern. Insist its not about asking for money or anything, just happen to constantly mention what terrible financial situation they have, and how they dont know what to do. Finally, they "sheepishly" take some donations or money, because others insisted. Seen it play out alot on other forums as well.

Yeah. You gotta wonder if this was all a ruse by the OP to get someone to "lend" him $200. Reverse psychology and all that.

Sorry to hear about your $200 loss, Kipp. You're a good person.

Sucks to hear. Hope you get it back and try lending on legitimate avenues next time like others have suggested.

I saw this thread too late or else I would have echoed that utility companies work with you on payment plans if needed. Especially during the cold months - I made a game teaching utility CSRs how to negotiate over the phone over credit issues.

If it was, it worked pretty well on me (and was pretty clever, at that). I've learned my lesson though and luckily it's not anything too heartbreaking. Could've been worse.

But thanks man.

Kipp does this $200 really hurt you? Like will not getting paid back have a large negative effect on your financials? (Serious question.)
Regardless, give the guy a little longer, but either way you did a good deed.

Hahaha. I already lost $200, what's another $9.99?

No, luckily it won't affect me at all financially. I'm a saver, so even though I don't make a lot, I've got enough put away that this only qualifies as kind of a bummer.
The main way this is affecting me is that I keep thinking about it and keep checking to see if he's PM'd me back yet (even though my better senses obviously tell me it's a bit of a lost cause). Even if he literally sent me a PM saying "I'm not paying you back" I'd at least be able to completely forget about it. Haha

Yep. Sob-story thread to entice kind but gullible people to reach out to them by pm

Frankly, this is the part that irks me.

I'm cynical, but can't help it.

Ain't this some shit...

Kipp, you a true homie, don't let this stop you from doing kind things, I guess just be more cautious? I dunno.

Damn that sucks Kipp, it was a nice gesture but people are assholes unfortunately :/ Judging by his drug posts, I don't think you will be getting your money back.

Also to the people recommending sending stuff to his house, although I'm sure you're joking, I think Kipp should be careful just incase he got given fake information, I mean.. if he was planning to scam $200 - why would he give real information? - did you ever try to verify the info Kipp, even the phone number?

I recommend starting there and seeing if you can contact him directly on a personal level (phone) rather than forum PM's and try to come to an agreement before going to any of the extreme measures that some people in here are posting. It's much easier to ignore a forum PM than to ignore a phone call.

Took me 10 seconds to find this. Yes, it's illegal to get paid monthly in Canada. All employees must be paid at least twice a month. A pay period cannot be longer than 16 days:

http://www.labour.gov.bc.ca/esb/facshts/paying_wages.htm

That's just BC.

Alberta's employment standards:
The Employment Standards Code requires that employees must be paid at least once a month
Ontario's employment standards:
Employers must establish a regular pay period and a regular pay day for employees.
And I'm sure other provinces have different requirements as well.

Well OP, at least I can sympathize kind of - past month I found out two of my deadmau5 tickets (for a DJ) were not accepted in a club I was going to. I've had OK luck on kijiji but this time around I was given a no after they were scanned. Lost about $260 for 2 tickets...

Although Im still talking to the dude on getting my money back via e-mail, a part of me is like yea i'm probably going to let it go at some point. I'm a saver as well but still... i know that missing amount is going to set me back on a vacation or something later this year.

However, I'm still hoping the OP comes back eventually with some reason why he didn't reply yet but really, he should be replying or at least texting back.

Oh, and you got pure soul. Your intentions were legit and even with what happened, what you did was pretty awesome.

Send us his phone number

Don't actually do that, get in contact with a mod to perhaps get a tag for him to warn others with a link to this thread.

This pisses me off. Man. I'm truly sorry, Kipp. To lend money like that to a stranger? You are a good person - please don't stuff like this harden you. Let's hope it's just a misunderstanding or something. His recent post history isn't very encouraging but who knows.

Have the mods been contacted yet?

Wait, you guys get paid every two weeks? Over here once a month is the national standard.

Yes. Some employers even pay weekly.

Maybe he could send his free Chipotle coupon as a prepayment.

Also, I don't believe any mods have been contacted. However, I'm not really sure what influence they could have in this situation.

Go to the park and see if there are any lonely, middle-aged men about. Offer to suck them off for $50, and you should have enough cash without having to sell anything after about 5 guys.

Or get the whole amount for some bum action.

That does horrible things.

It's basically like getting into a payday loan cycle. It's happened to me before, a long time ago. Sucks. You never seem to get ahead!

Also, Terrisus posted in this thread 3 times since it was bumped, none of which had any substance whatsoever. How long will this go on?

Don't be a softie.

Go after him. Make him pay. Don't let your kindness be taken advantage of. This is fucked up.

I would have doxed him. Not on here of course. He can't pay, there's no getting around that. But I would have gotten my money's worth out of using the information I have about him.

Giving $200 to panhandling stranger on the internet is like giving $200 to a pan handler in the WalMart parking lot. You wouldn't expect to be repaid in that scenario and you shouldn't expect it here either sadly.

Really sorry to here this kipp. My general belief on the matter is if its an amount that won't break you then resolve to not be upset if you don't get it back and if possible, give it instead of lending it. You did a good thing and it seems like the OP didn't answer your kindness which would be scummy if its as clear cut as it seems, how ever (and not to sound like I'm victim blaming), this could have been handled more discretely. I hope op is well and has a conviction of conscience to pay you back.

Kipp - Best of luck mate. Maybe open up a fraud thing with PayPal if you used them. You're good people, and you'll get it back somehow. We have Gaffers everywhere, somebody will find him.

I think it's odd you posted on the thread and resurrected it before calling the guy. If he doesnt pick up, then sure post it. But you have his number and you could solve this pretty much instantly or at least know if there is a legitimate reason he hasnt paid, or if it is a scam.

Was gonna suggest the op do some craigslisting or some major ass kissing to get some fam help or something ...

But now he can kiss my ass for free! Fucking hate people like this >:/
