I'm looking into buying a NetGear Wireless Router, model WGR614. Does anybody have any experience using this router ? Do you recommend it ?

Here is a pic of the router :

And a link to the specs :

WGR614

Best Buy and Circuit City have the router on special for $29.99 for this week.

Any advice will be appreciated !

i have a v3.... if you are not looking for this wireless router to do anything fancy then it is ok... in my house the broadcast range is limited and you can't add a larger antenna because it is attached to the main board. other than that it is worth 30 bucks.... dont forget to upgrade it to the latest firmware, my psp wouldnt connect to the internet until i did

I have one of these. I have no particular praise or complaints about it except if you're connecting to a Cisco VPN concentrator it will drop the connection often. Other than that its a regular old average wireless router.

I have the same problem with D-Link...

Thank you for the replies. All I want the router for is to use the wireless with my PSP and in the future my wife will be getting a NoteBook for work, so she can connect to the internet wireless. The version out in the stores I believe is v6

More or less what is the distance range with the stock antenna ?

Netgear's consumer-level stuff is pretty reliable. The only reason I've ever replaced my own Netgear equipment is because I wanted to get something better/newer. There's nothing too distinctive about it, but the setup is usually a breeze.

Just stay away - dear GOD, stay away - from Linksys. That shit breaks if you look at it funny.

I have that one, but the old v3 model, and its very good, reliable, and never drops out on you.

Go get it my son. Run like the wind. :)

I had a v5 and it would not work with my wireless xbox adapter at all. It is even acknowledged on their website as incompatible.

v4 works with my wireless xbox adapter!

resets under load and all that, pretty par for the course with these consumer level NAT boxes

also has a problem with corrupting broadcast packets (ie, DHCP exchanges) across the bridge iirc (the 624 definitely has this problem)

My advice is buy it at circuit city for 59.99 (get your 30 dollars in rebates) then go back and have them mtach Best Buys price of 29.99 and get the router for free

I don't have that particular one but I have an older model and it completely sucks.

DO NOT GET A NETGEAR ROUTER

I use to only buy netgear routers, had 5, until I saw the light. They would randomly reboot. Happen on 2X 614 and 2X 624 models. Netgear put the blame on the power in my place, but then, I moved and it still happen. Seems to only happen in summer so maybe has to do with it overheating. Plus, all of them gives you huge lag when playing on battle.net. Switch to D-Link Extreme G Router and no issues.

I have two. To be honest, the one you're looking into might be owned by me, but I'm too lazy to check the model number. Seems to be my model going by the specs and picture.

I cannot get it to connect to my ISP at all. Well, alright, it can connect for five minutes before I need to change configuration to reset it. I've entered the static DNS servers, I've disabled UPnP, etc... No go. Thank God it was so cheap.

I'm using an older Netgear router at the moment. Only wireless B, which is a bitch, and it sometimes crashes under heavy load (torrents).

I'm not exactly planning on buying anything Netgear in the future.
