the infos are taken from the newest german OPM2 (official playstation magazine), which features world-exclusive a 4 page preview. there are also some screens (that look like the wallpaper) within.

- you race in a freely open american coastal town (there are highways, port, industrial areas, skscraper...)

- you drive between morning and evening!

- there will be realtime wetter

- confirmed cars: mazda rx-8, bmw m3 (also there is a picture, that shows the team tecording sounds in a porsche garage)

- according to the mag: there are american muscle cars, luxury sedans, suvs, exotics, and compact tuner in the game

- tuning like nfs: underground 2

- concept sketches show a corvette police car and a suv police car

- there are cop chases (ea: we want to make this up to 15 cop cars!)

- also, it seems, that the cops will use road blocks

- story: you are joining the racing club "Blacklist 15", race against gangs and climb up the blacklist ladder

I'm very happy that they were able to converge the best of both world. But we'll have to wait till E3 to see how it is. If its the old school chases, plus the new skool crazyness. It will be gold. I loved being the police car in the old NFS games.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about...I've been waiting for something like this since Test Drive frikkin' 3.

REALLY looking forward to the Xbox 360 version of this game....

I *know* I will be buying Perfect Dark Zero and SSX4 at launch and depending on how good this game turns out (Need4Speed has a pretty good track record lately) I will get most wanted too....

:lol I haven't given a rat's ass about the NFS series since the original back in 94/95. Being able to cruise, race or get chased in a free roaming city with realistic physics is the only reason why I'm now hot for this game (though it's a huge reason). And as K Lee said, the 360 version should be sublime.

That was in Need for Speed Underground 2, and Midnight Club 3, as well as always been in the Midtown Madness titles, etc... :)

The game sounds identical to Midnight Club 3 so far.

that are my thoughts too.

huge car selection / cops / open realistic city / tuning -> all that stuff is covered in midnight club 3 already

the only really intresting new things would be the story, realtime wether (even nfs: underground 2 did something like that with the shitty rain effect) and the ability to race at the day.

Midnight Club had changing weather between loads and you could race during the day (dawn) I think. :)

Anyways, still sounds identical to MC3 and the Underground series. If it'll at least look good, maybe then it's worth getting the next-gen version....

Is there regular traffic in these cities that I could either cruise or race with? Cause that's the sort of thing I'm looking for. I did try the NFS Underground 2 demo, but that city looked to be as empty as my love life.

Being able to drive in the day makes the game instantly accessible to a lot of people. I can not stand vampire racers.

If this is more related to the older NFS titles rather than the Underground titles, then there is a good chance there will be as there was on the PS1/PC NFS titles.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for...never really cared for that whole underground/import customs thing. All I need are stock Impreza WRX's, though include the customizing options for those who want it.

I guess I should've pointed out that I don't just want a free roaming city that can be tackled day or night, but a city that's actually populated with traffic and pedistrans Basically I want something like the Midtown Madness series or Crazy Taxi, but with the realism provided by NFS.

Sooo...this is NFS Underground with cops. I'll pick up the PC version no doubt about it.

no no..
it's a TRUE NFS ( old school :D ) i'll pick up the xbox360 version no doubt about it :D

Umm...old school NFS would be another Hot Pursuit. This is open scale/free roaming, not old school. And no, I'll get the PC version.

They need something like Test Drive 2.. with add on scenery disks.. open driving environment.. bugs splatting everywhere... didnt that have weather too?

The ps2 NFS: Hot PErsuit 2 was one of the best racing games this gen why cant they just update that?

I'd like that too but EA's just not the kind of developer to simply churn out a yearly update of a succesful franchise.

Test Drive 2 ruled...it basically made the Amiga worth owning. Loved Test Drive 3 as well...though it wasn't quite as realistic, it offered up a couple of mutiple routes along with short cuts. The original Need for Speed was essentially a 3D Test Drive 2, made by the same developer.

damn. I would have like the next NFS not to continue in the street racing trend. I hope this will not feel too Underground... ;(
