Need some GAF impressions regarding a handful of cheap games

To keep this topic from being (almost) pointless, perhaps it could be turned into a "hey, how is ____?" topic for curious GAFFERs tempted to make sponatneous decisions.

Anyway, as for me, I hadn't been in my local gamestop in over 6 months because its overpriced, and I prefer to support my local indie shop anyway. I ended up in there today, and to my surprise they had a decent amount of cheap stuff. So, any impressions about whether these games are worth the price would be greatly appreciated:

Mad Maestro - $6
Ribbit King - $10
Kingdom Under Fire, Crusaders - $17
R-Type Final - $20
Harvest Moon: AWL - $18

Those are all used prices, besides R-type, and all ones I would consider picking up. GAF please advise?

You would have been able to get those for new and MUCH MUCH cheaper at Toys R Us. ($1 each, roughly)
AWL is cool. Ribbit King is weird, but good for a laugh.

Mad Maestro is a fun music game. Based on classical music (um, obviously I guess). I'd pick it up for $6.

KUF: Crusaders I would definitely purchase. Beautiful, interesting game. Sort of a beat em up, sort of a RTS. It's kind of like Dragon Force on Saturn. Kind of like Dynasty Warriors. You should check this out.

R-Type is good, but that's the regular price for it.

I didn't enjoy the other two.

I'd say Mad Maestro was worth 6 dollars if you like classical music. The timing sound is a bit offputting though.

Of those, I have Mad Maestro and R-Type Final.

Mad Maestro is a bit like a classical version of PaRappa, but it's hard. The game uses pressure sensitivity, three levels of it and later, if you really play it for a while, there's a mode that has six levels of sensitivity. You really have to get into a mode of not sweating and mashing on the buttons if you want to master it. The music is strictly crappy MIDI, though, which hurts.

R-Type Final is just a game that any shooter fan should have. It's tough and unforgiving, full of weird aquatic things as usual, quite atmospheric.

KingdomUF - if you like Dynasty warriors but with more control over the units then yes. It's alot like the new Kessen 3 that just came out gameplay wise.

AWL - I dunno. It was fun for a day but never touched it since. Thought my wife would like it being a big Sims fan but she struggled to like it for about 3 hours. Now it collects dust.

First 3 games i will pass on. The 4th game is not cheap, 20 bucks is not cheap yo. And harvest moon for 18 bucks lol. Thats not cheap either, and i should know, because i'm cheap. Try looking around some where else, because 5 bucks is cheap, not 20.

Actually, I'm going to have to go against the crowd and say don't get Mad Maestro, ESPECIALLY if you like classical music. The music in that game is an insult to classical music. Plus, the game is easy as hell. It's the easiest music game I've ever played. I bought that game for $5 and even then I felt ripped off.

KUF is a fantastic strategy game. I picked that up for $20 and it was a great buy.

Ribbit King, R-Type Final, and Harvest Moon are near retail prices. Not cheap.

R-Type is a bit on the slow-paced side, especially if you're used to Cave shooters, even some Treasure ones, but the really subdued soundtrack kicks ass (extremely atmospheric ambient and breaks) and it's got the most perverted final level ever. My girlfriend liked AWL (that's the GC one, right?), but said there's not as much to do compared to older renditions of the series - you have a limited selection of girls to marry and the game gets repetitive faster than all the other HM games.

I ended up picking up Ribbit King and Mad Maestro, for $15.74 total. Not bad, imo. I figured Kof: Crusaders and R-Type will get cheaper, and Harvest Moon isn't really my bag.

YES Mad Maestro - $6
YES Ribbit King - $10
YES Kingdom Under Fire, Crusaders - $17
NO R-Type Final - $20
NEVER PLAYED Harvest Moon: AWL - $18

Not that R-Type Final is bad, but nothing extraordinary. For budget shmup kicks, Silpheed kicks ass. Most stores sell that game for $5.
