NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

Ok, my madcatz stick is perfectly in good condition, however I see alot of people who are curious on how to fix their stick with the "sticky" problem. Theres alot of pics out there on how to fix the problem, but they don't explain how to get there it seems like common sense to stick junkies, so I made a video on how to get to problem. Keep in mind the gate itself is a pain in the ass to take off however once I removed it and put it back on a few times it was easy as hell to take it off. You will void your warranty but it's definitely a simple fix, or you can replace it altogether with a different stick :)

Removing the gate and PCB to get to the washer, keep in mind I didn't do anything else besides remove the screws from the bottom of the SE Stick.

To fix the actual problem (i'm not gonna post a video). Either take out the E-Clip (seems fairly difficult, the whole stick will come out. Superglue or Grind down the groove so it doesn't move at all.

OR do just super glue it down by lifting the washer up... (i suggest with a brush so you don't get it all over the place)

Wow this thread is moving fast. I think my question got lost in the shuffle so I'll attempt one more time. I've hooked my 360 TE Stick to my PC and and downloaded the drivers from Microsoft. The computer seems to recognize it and it works fine for some of my programs, but when I try it out on something like MAME it doesn't seem to recognize any of the inputs (yet my controller works fine). I tried going around it with JOY2PC and got the buttons to work but it still won't recognize the stick.

Any suggestions?

My TE stick did not ship, so I'm expecting it sometime next week or early March. Looks like I'll have to use the 360 controller for a while longer.

So, thought I'd ask again - is there anyone reliable online that sells custom sticks? Or is shoryuken.com the better place to ask?

The square gate is really kicking my ass. :(

Why not just get a new gate? I got one from Lizard Lick...

Picked up a Hori Ex2 Stick today at GS new for 40 bucks. Will suit me fine as this is my first stick. Takes a little time to get down ultra motions, but besides that no complaints at all.

Hey Tiduz, I remember you from the drakenslag days (if you are the same),
but why you dont get the TE stick from Foregames?(or order from Bol.com)
it got all your Sanwa materials right there and the stick is just pure love.
(unless you cant afford it right now--just trade in games at Foregames! :D )

Drakenslag? I dont know that game, i already have a hori real arcade pro 3, so a TE would be about the same, only the hrap3 with sanwa = cheaper :D

I looked at a thread on shoryuken and even modding the gate on an EX2 requires soldering apparently.

I mean, I know it should be easy, but the last thing I want to do is "brick" a perfectly fine stick. :lol

there's no soldering to replace the gate, just need to drill 4 holes into the gate and screw it on.

here's mine

Anybody know what exact type of screwdriver or allen wrench you need to open up the top of the TE Street Fighter Stick? I NEED TO KNOW THIS PLEASE!

ANYONE!?!

I have an EX2 as well, and I'm going to be doing the same mod as posted above. :D

Go ahead and order the gate!

Fucking watch out!

The original "Tank" box

The Tank:

FYI, The Tank has been a long-produced, Australian-made series of joysticks, dating from the MD/SNES (box pic is from the SNES), throught the 3DO to, well, the PS3 and 360. As you can tell by the early-mid 90s boxart!

Oh, and the layout is exactly the same as the SF4 sticks. And it was about $50 cheaper!

Had a quick play with it... beautiful, clicky concave buttons and the joystick feels sweet, too. Will give it a play tonight on UMK3, SF Anniv. and R-Type and offer impressions :)

Thanks for making it clear for people new to sticks, nice to know you can glue it down without having to completely take the stick apart. I don't have one yet, but hopefully I'll pick one up by mid march or so.

Damn this looks nice sitting on my coffee table. It even impressed my wife enough to get her to play. She practiced with C. Viper and learned a few moves. Pretty cool.

The only thing I am unsure of is the 'clickiness' when I move the stick itself. I guess I just thought it would be quiet when moving around.

I've actually found the clicks to be helpful. Lets me know when a direction registers.

FAKE EDIT: rehost that image. Imageshack isn't too welcome 'round these parts.

So my hori ex2 stick stops working 1 hour into playing SF4 with it. The joystick wont go in the down direction. Well it will, just nothing happens on screen. Do they fix these or can I just return to GS?

Okay.. People shouldn't give me money :lol

On the spur of the moment, I ended up ordering:

6x Vermillion Sanwa OBSF-30's
2x Dark Hai Sanwa OBSF-30's
1x Vermillion Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT

Total with EMS shipping: 6405 yen which is 55 euros :lol

Oh well. Pro SF4 SE FightStick, here I come!

So it's getting insanely hard to find a good stick short of building your own (which I just don't have the expertise to do). Has anyone tried out this MC model with SF4?

Heard the d-pad on it is pretty good.

The pads good, but the analogue stick gets in the way of the buttons.

Static shock maybe? You can fix that by unplugging the stick. Also check the quick disconnect. The stick flakes out if it gets a little loose.

The clicking is not bad and is a normal part of registering the sticks movements, any stiffness or sticking of the stick is is bad. It should feel loose all around, with a lot of clicking, and yes when you hit corners you'll hear double the clicking.

I've decided that when I get my SE fightstick that if it has the problems people have posted about I'll just head on over to Lizardlick to order the parts to mod it into a better piece of hardware.. I may do it anyway.. I need a new project..

Ok, that makes sense. So far it seems very responsive, no stickiness or stiffness. Movement feels fluid.

I got the EX2 for 360 right now and it's annoying me that the ultras,3k,or 3p moves are tough to pull off.

I wanted to get the SE stick but heard about problems with a square gate not being conducive to circular moves. I'm thinking Hori Real Arcade Pro EX now?

Getting a Hori Real Arcade pro EX will not solve your issue, all japanese sticks come stock with square gates. However you can do what purg3 did to his stick and get an octagonal gate, or buy a SE stick and replace the gate as well, buttons definitely feel better than the EX2.

Edit: also i'm not saying to not get the HRAP EX, it definitely has a better stock stick (sanwa = way more responsive) than either SE FIGHTSTICK or EX2 but it's going to have a square gate regardless. Changing it out is a matter of less than $10

My 360 and PS3 TE shipped from Amazon today (finally). Along with that...my HRAP EX SE should arrive any day (slow shipping from NCS).

I'm overloading on joysticks.

And I must say...hitting buttons in fighters is definitely easier on a stick than controller (even the Fightpad or Saturn)...since you're not using your thumbs...

Huh, looks like my second TE is shipping from Amazon!

Too bad I can't afford two and already sold it at cost to a friend. Looks like I better get MY FIGHT MONEY!!!!

Hey, thanks for the advice.....if you were to recommend one would it be HRAP EX or SE Fightstick?

LOTS of people are saying the SE fightstick is "broken" (I read though that it could be fixed by modding) and it even scored lower than the EX2 in a feature done by Gamespot (...yeah i know Gamespot lol)

...Maybe I should just hold out for TE....I'm just all confused now...Hell maybe I'll even just stick with my EX2

It comes down to a lot of factors, but money is going to be one of them. You'll be paying a nice premium for the TE. Even the HRAP is getting harder to find outside of ebay.

Hrm, nice.

I guess I may have try to do this myself... but which gate do I need to order?
Yours looks like the "Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate"?

Also, what kind of drill do I need? Like I said, I really have no idea what I'm doing. :p

Now that the harpex is all sold out, how hard is it to mod the ex2? Does it have quick disconnects? Stupid shoryuken search is turned off..

Yeah, I think I ordered mine in November after Markman alerted the normal posters in this thread (before the flood of anticipation for SFIV).

And that really is a good job Shidoshi.
