I heard about the problem and still bought the SE. The fix is so easy, I could care less if the warranty is voided. It's an SE, so swapping out the parts was a no brainer. Even if you didn't want to swap anything, it's just a matter of taking out the gate and pcb and gluing the washer down. Problem solved. The trick is, do it even though you're not having problems yet.

But of course to each his own.

I'm pretty sure the point is that he shouldn't have to fix it himself...

I just ordered a Hori Arcade Stick 3, and I'm going to install it with Sanwa stick and buttons. Will cost me about 70€ instead of the insanely over-priced 138€ SFIV TE stick.

Doesn't the HRAP already have a Sawna stick?

Just got my HRAP3 today. Being my first stick since the NES Advantage, acclimation is pretty rough as expected. Is the restrictor on this thing 8-way? Cuz it feels a little more circular than I was anticipating. The only other things I've really noticed are that the stick feels a little close to the buttons for a sasquatch like me, and my right hand hurts from pressing the buttons :lol

Playing while sitting on my bed probably isn't the best way to go about it :D

Glad to hear you're enjoying your new stick. I love my HRAP3 as well. However - a bit of correcting. All joysticks nowadays are 8-way. The part that determines the shape your stick can move in is called a gate. Most all Japanese-style sticks come stock with a square gate. This allows movement of your joystick in all 8 directions. The square Sanwa gate can be switched to a 4-way gate, allowing only 4 directions, up/down/left/right, mostly used for older games like Pac-Man. This stock square gate can be replaced with a circle or octagon shaped gate. These continue to allow the stick to move in 8 directions.

Gotcha, I had my terminology wrong. I meant octagonal gate instead of 8-way, even though I do have 8-way movement.

Finish.

Alright! So the deal went thru and I have myself a mad catz PS3 SE stick now. Where and how do I go about upgrading it to TE quality if not better? And it was mentioned that with the SE I wouldn't have to solder right?

Finally picked up my TEs...

Here are some shoddy pics along with the SE. I'll give my cursory review after the pictures.

With the pictures out of the way...

I tried the TE out on HD Remix and SFIV. I've used Sanwa JLF and buttons...and so the "performance" is neck and neck with the HRAP (with button mods). The big difference is the amenities like the cord slot, which holds your cord (so little children don't trip or unsightly wire mess). I like the artwork...but prefer the artwork on the SE. The main advantage of the TE over the Hori line besides the turbos and cord slot is the modability. Thankfully, it has a five-pin connector. If you're not happy with Sanwa, you can easily swap it out for Seimitsu. The artwork is also swappable. I also like the packaging the joystick comes in (as well as the SE). The HRAP box are so mundane compared to the SE and TE packaging.

I'm probably going to use the SE more when I swap out the parts for Seimitsu. But I'd like to say the TE is a 9/10. My only "gripe" is I'm not proficient with Japanese sticks...so it's still a learning process. I'd like to see the same care and thoughtfulness put into an American style joystick with Happ parts.

I have to take issue with your description of Hori's boxes for their HRAPs as "mundane". Have you seen a few HRAP boxes? I have four, and all four have different colors and even cardboard type. The HRAP2SA has a very cool matte blue box with really classy fontwork. The white Amazon HRAP3 has a striking black-on-white box that really catches the eye. The just-released HRAP EX-SE has got some cool line art and matching Xbox 360 colors on a glossy box. Hori's boxes are far from mundane. They are very striking, and classy. Apologies to all who like Madcatz' stick box-work, but the gaudy colors and art and window-flap just seem designed to look cool to the average 15-year old teenage male. Granted, there's a place where that is appropriate, and a video-game controller box is probably that place, but Hori's box design impresses me a whole lot more. I'm also quite a bit older than 15 years old, so there you go.

ok, so I think im just gonna mod my X-arcade stick, anyone know where I can get small enough gauge of wiring for modding a 360 controller?? also, i want to make it so it uses quick disconnects, is that possible???
Try ethernet cable

Anyone know of what parts I would need to install sturdy feet on a HRAP type stick(like the SFIV TE stick)? Two of the rubber feet fell of awhile ago and it's becoming more difficult to play it on a table without it shifting frequently.

Hey, does anyone know if the Hori Real Arcade Pro 2 SA will work with a ps2 -> ps3 converter on a US playstation 3?

It looks like a pretty good alternative if you can't get a TE if so..

Also, only about $200 on ebay and in the shops which is quite a nice price for that excellent stick.

I'm using one with an inPin converter. Works like a charm.

Well there is my answer, gonna order one tonight.

edit: nevermind..the guy on SRK is out of stock of the inPin converters.

I got my TE stick today and I just wanted to personally thank Markman for making such and awesome arcade stick, I love it

I still don't have mine... Yet another victim of the B&M GameStop SNAFU. *sigh*

On the bright side, I do love my SE fightstick that I got from MadCatz' store. :D It's tiding me over nicely until the beast finally comes in.

I found a SE stick today at Gamecrazy. I played for about 15 minutes and noticed that sometimes I cant jump forward and any attempt at it results in jumping straight up. I guess its broken. How long is the turn around on Mad Catz repairs?

I posted some of the Hori boxes...and the two Madcatz boxes. Perhaps I used sharp words when I described Hori's aesthetic in its box design. I still stand by what I said...but I do the HRAP3 Amazon box is very nice and simple. I just don't like the design on the others... I wish they were a more artistic aesthetic. I agree now that I look at it...the Madcatz sticks are trying to be "cool". I had a HRAP2 for maybe a few days, so I don't remember what the box looked like. I also don't like how flimsy the HRAP boxes are. But I guess it's comparing apples to oranges...just like comparing the HRAPs to the TE/SE. Personally, I still use my HRAP EX and 3 to play P360.

My HRAP3 and my SF4 TE both have JLF's, but the throw on the HRAP3 feels much larger. I can't even dash in SF4 anymore with it because the stick requires so much more distance to return to neutral than the SF4 stick. Any recommendations? Should I be looking for a solution by modding or getting a new stick?

The Strong punch button on my SF4 Arcade Stick feels a bit unresponsive, occasionally seems like it doesn't register a hit. How hard would it be for me to replace the buttons with higher quality ones if I have zero experience with this kind of thing? I love the stick, but the buttons feel a little meh, plus I am pretty sure the strong punch will eventually crap out.

So the HORI Real Arcade Pro Stick 3 (JP) is out of stock on play-asia.com and the US version is out of print. Do you guys know of any other places to buy it? They have to be able to ship to the EU.

I really want a better stick, getting tired of my Fighting Stick 3 :/ Does Tiger Knees just doesn't come out as smooth as I want them to.

Nice! Exact same scheme I am planning to use on my Death Smiles HRAPs.

Oh, and look what I got this morning:

He's swamped, give the guy a break!

I was thinking of something more along the lines of a site that would actually do all the work for me, like say... the Dell of custom arcades ticks or something, or maybe the Falcon NW in this case.

What's the deal with this Finkle guy and how do I go about having him make me a stick, and how much do they usually cost?

People are just too impatient, give it some time!

I just got my package from Lizard Lick that I ordered three weeks ago and I didn't cry one bit.

Thanks Chad!!!

Bah, question getting lost in the void again. Maybe if I post a ton of pictures someone who knows the answer will see it? :(

I got my HRAP in yesterday and tried out some SF4 with it. Suffice to say, it's a lot harder for me than with the fightpad I just received. I guess I need more practice, but I find myself just using the fightpad instead :(

Anyone know where I can get good pictures for a faceplate. I tried looking on google but they all suck. I am looking for a good Yoshi picture for my SE stick.

I don't know if it will help but I stumbled on this video the other day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QytcbzZmXaI&feature=channel_page

I think the part with the tape and the actuator may help the problem you are having (if I'm properly understanding what you are describing).

On another note I modded my SE Fightstick by swapping in a JLF. HUGE difference. This is the first Sanwa stick I've ever played on and now it will be impossible to ever go back! If anyone is on the fence about doing this mod on the SE the jump is definitely worth it IMO.

Just ordered a HRAP 3. I'm rationalizing this purchase because my MC FSSE is having problems working with my PC and is not BC compatible with my 60GB PS3. I wish I paid less, but it's price point ($99.00) and feature, sets it firmly between the SE and TE stick.
Wouldn't hurt to have a second stick for some local 2P action either.

Posting my first mod on the first arcade stick I've ever owned :lol

Fullout Sanwas, came out pretty nice I think.
