NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

The lever (in the Fighting Stick EX2) is rather lousy. A gate alone won't fix that.

That too. They're pretty shitty if they're the same ones in the EX2.
The difference is HRAPs use quick disconnects so it takes 10 minutes and a couple of screw drivers to replace them with Sanwa or Seimitsu or whatever you prefer instead of going through the arduous soldering process.

All i know is that somebody said this:

http://www.arcadeshock.com/items/pr...de-pro-ex-for-xbox-360-horixboxpro-detail.htm

was supposed to be the best arcade stick avaliable for the 360, once it gets released.

Since i was on a Arcade Stick fever (as in, i wanted one), i placed a perorder on it and.... that's it. I've been waiting for like, 3 months already or smth. They didn't even answer my email asking what the hell is going on.

I blame somebody on this thread, not sure who, because i don't feel like searching.. :D

Blame me dude, I was the one that found it and mentioned it. I feel really bad about the whole thing. My order still hasen't come. It did email them, and was told that they are waiting for Hori to ship them the sticks. I was also told not to worry because they hadn't charged me yet.

I've ordered from them lots of times before and never had a problem, even returned some items without issue. They have lost me as a customer with this.

Sorry again for anyone else, I feel awful.

Yeah, I know. But for the price, the SFIV sticks should already have higher quality buttons.

Square gate is the standard for Japanese arcade sticks! Get used to it :)

Believe me, I've tried. But it's hard to undo 25 years gaming in US arcades. Square gates feel so wrong to me.

Now, the question is, can I mod the SFIV sticks (easily) to add a different restrictor plate?

Oh, you mean the $70 SFIV sticks?

I can't fault you for that. The full-Sanwa Virtua Stick High Grade retailed for about that when it was first released. Such a deal.

That was then when the USD was doing much better. I got mine for $80 shipped. I love the VSHG.

Also yes it will be easy to put in an octagonal restrictor plate in both the SF IV sticks.

I just put an octagonal gate in both my HRAP3 and HRAP2:SA. I also switched out the Hori buttons on my HRAP3 for all-Sanwa buttons. Both my sticks are now as smooth playing as a baby's ass. Not that I am familiar with the smooth qualities of the ass of a baby. Because I'm not.

New gate in place, for a mere 550 yen:

Don't feel bad because of my particular case. I'm not that worried. Like i said, i understand what a preorder means. I also understood that there was no expected date for the preorder to be fulfilled (and the vague wording. It's a limited edition stick! Order now so we can purchase enough of them!).

It's just that, the way i see it, when there's no date, i usually expect something quick, like 1 or 2 months. It's been 2 months and not a single update on the site or an email telling me any predictions. That's what kind of annoys me.

I still have faith on them tho... but they could answer my email... sigh...

VSHG was honestly a complete steal. I dont even think I go tmine for 80 bucks cause I was a little late getting mine. Reagrdless, I have no idea how they got those sticks out for that cheap. You ask a custom shop to do a job like that it would easily be 250 bucks.

So how does pre-ordering work with Amazon? What sort of hold do they put on your account if any?

Can someone answer this for me? Thing is, I want to pre-order the $150 stick, but don't have the funds in my account at the moment. If they did put a hold on for the full amount right now then I would get hit with an overdraft fee. ;)

Also, anyone may know the answer to this, but I figure MarkMan might know best. I've noticed that on Gamestop's site it mentiones that the SF4 TE stick will have "very limited quantities available." Do these stores (Gamestop/EB/Amazon/etc...) know an exact amount they will be receiving and thus can cut pre-orders once they hit that number? I'm just afraid I'll pre-order somewhere only to get an e-mail saying they won't have enough just before launch. By that time it would probably be too late to order one from anywhere else.

Thanks!

I'm going on four months. I sent them an email today looking for an update. Anything would be nice at this point.

I can't reveal numbers. But it WILL be limited.

They will not be available at B&M GameStop/EB Games locations unless YOU preorder.

The smaller FightStick will only show up at the flagship GameStops and high traffic stores.

If you want one, preorder one. That's going to be your best bet.

Also, I can confirm that they will be released in Europe! But I don't know when/where/how stores there will conduct their preorders/sales. So keep bugging them.

Even the TE? Or just the standard Fightstick?

I will be getting a PS3 hori fight stick next week (Tuesday it sounds like), it will be my first one so I am pretty excited. I have been reading about custom sticks too, I think I might build a stick for 360 and just take my time on it, I think it will be fun.

I'm considering selling my arcade-in-a-box 360 stick, with its bat-top, octagonal gate, and HAPP parts, and instead getting either the new Hori RAP EX stick (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GDONZS/?tag=neogaf0e-20) or the SF4 tournament stick since I prefer ball-tops and square gates.

Is the SF4 stick worth the extra 20 bucks or whatever? I like the more colorful design of the Hori stick.

It's definitely worth it if you don't intend to mod. The SF4 stick has Sanwa buttons. The HRAP has crappy Hori clone buttons.

Amazon has never put a hold of any kind on my account, and they don't charge until they ship.

I just want to agree with the crowd here that Arcade Shock is pissing me off.

They told us the sticks would be in Late Nov or POSSIBLY early Dec. Well, it is now close to the end of early Dec.

The right thing to do, is put up SOME kind of update, at least apologizing and letting us know the sticks haven't arrived from Hori yet.

I have a bad feeling that they will get their sticks from the same shipment that Amazon is getting theirs from, and they all will arrive at the same time. This annoys me, because arcade shock goes out of its way to brag that they will have the sticks BEFORE anyone else.

Mark is nuts...

I just sent ArcadeShock an e-mail regarding my HRAP EX. I preordered mine in August and paid the whole amount through paypal...so with the Amazon situation...I'm looking for a refund. I could probably be a little patient if they updated their paying customers, but everything has been quiet.

To make it worse...I could get free shipment through Amazon...

But yeah...Arcade Shock is acting like ass...

And Markman, I'm getting a tournament stick for PS3 and 360...plus a 360 fightpad. SFIV is going to be like buying a Neo Geo game...(three copies of the game plus three controllers).

MarkMan said:
haha thanks...

But I can't resist getting a pair of those up there ^_^

Getting one of your Tournament Editions for my 360 and one of the Hori HRAP3 SFIV sticks for my PS3...best of both worlds, so to speak. The HRAPs are definitely getting long in the tooth, though. Wondering why play-asia is listing the EX2 for $99...seems too steep.

I'm waiting till about Dec 15th then I'll try to cancel and just use my preorder from Amazon. Its $165 delivered from Arcade Shock and I'd like to support them but if it gets too close to the Amazon release date $130 is easier to swallow.

Vinh over at Arcade-Shock is a good business man. I'm sure he's just waiting on the shipment like everyone else is. Have faith in him. I don't blame him for the delay, I'd blame Hori.

If anyone chats with him let him know MarkMan sends his regards.

Yeah, I'm probably gonna let my Arcade shock order stand and then get a second from Amazon for $130 to modify. Gotta give Arcade Shock props for bringing it over.

No doubt, we all know the delay isn't his fault.

The keeping us in the dark thing though...

not good business.

Time for me to stop bitching and move on, those Hori sticks are very nice looking!

So... I've been playing SSF2HD on my 360 and it's damn near unbearable with the controller. I need an arcade stick.

Is the EX2 really that average? Would everybody suggest waiting for the SF4 sticks?

Any chance of them making there way to Australia?

I think i'm gonna get a fightpad (europe) sticks are a bit too expensive for my "casual-ness" on sf games :P

any place in europe to preorder? :o

Got this response from Arcade Shock:

Kevin,

We updated the status of this two months ago. See here:

http://www.arcadeshock.com/page_50.asp

Check out the news dated 9.24.08.

We can assure you that Amazon is not getting their shipment in December. We know this for a fact. Actually, they may not even get it in January. We work closely with Hori and we will be getting this before Amazon. We will know for sure this week on the exact timeline. The sticks are in transit by ship to us now, so it depends on that and the time it stays in customs before they are released.

If you still would like a refund, just let us know, but keep in mind Amazon will ship to you at a later date and their shipping (despite being free), takes 2 weeks to get to you on items such as this.

We apologize the for delay, but we have no control over the production and at worse case, no one is getting this before us.

sorry to ask MarkMan, I got a question about Fierce and RoundHouse (HP and HK) concerning the MadCatz stuff.

will Fierce Punch be L1 and will RoundHouse Kick be R1?

or will they be Hori-ized?

The popular opinion regarding the EX2 seems to be that it is average as you said, but still tons better than the 360 controller. I have one on order right now and will use it to shake off the arcade stick rust and get by until the SF4 TE stick. Then I'll have a decent 2P stick!

BTW, finally pre-ordered my SF4 TE stick! Don't let us down MarkMan! Also, any chance the media will be getting their hands on them soon? Although the high quality parts and new mindset at Mad Catz seem to be positive, my biggest concern is long-term durability. In the past, most of my problems with Mad Catz products were never right out of the box. They usually worked as advertised. Problem was that they only worked for about 10 minutes. Extended use by the media and positive impressions could really go a long way in reassuring everyone.

That reeks of bullshit. I can't say anything about Amazon shipping at a later date, but they most certainly don't take 2 weeks on their free shipping. I get most items from then in 1-2 days, and have never received any item more than a week after it shipped.

HRAP's come in a large box, and there's probably a ton of preorders, who knows

Um... if the media got them, they'd play for a day, MAX, then write their review. There would be no "extended use" before the review. :lol

Ahhh, that is great to hear. That was all I needed! I wish he would have put something on the site like that!

(I think the disconnect between us and arcade shock here, is the way he seems to think that we should be okay with a 9 week old update, and we feel like we should be kept in the loop a tiny bit more for a very expensive esoteric product, that we are looking forward to)

Anyway, thanks for sharing that, that is good news!

Well dude keep in mind its not MadCatz is making the actual joystick/buttons etc.. The stick itself is made of real arcade parts they used in Japan and elsewhere. Sanwa parts have been tested for durability.

I think he's more concerned with things like the Madcatz-made PCB dying etc.

Gantz said:
So which one should I preorder?

Well, you are getting better buttons with the SF stick.

But you don't know the quality of the Madcatz stick (besides the sanwa buttons/stick)

So I'm not sure. My girl pre-ordered a HRAP for my birthday back in September, so luckily, I don't have to make this choice (and I already have my buttons and balltop, at home, waiting!!)

Someone better tell all the ppl using Mad Catz PCBs for their dual mods/custom 360 stick mods then!

You guys are still okay right?

:)

Yeah, I was gonna say, I think my arcade-in-a-box stick has a Mad Catz PCB.
