fubarduck is right.

A top mounted stick will have less play/movement between the top of the unit than if it was mounting in from the bottom/a mounting plate like on the HRAP3.

This is partially why the stick has such a hollow feel to it when used (HRAP3).

I have a top mounted Sanwa/Seimitsu in my Sega Astro city cabinet and it feels MUCH better.

Is there a way to give an HRAP3 that same restricted feeling as a top mounted stick?

Hey Markman, thanks for all the information and for striving to create some good quality tournament sticks...

Question: I have preordered the PS3 and 360 TE Sticks for 150 each, and I wonder if they're 4 or 8 way gates?

If they're 4 way gates, are they "easily" moddable to add in an 8 way gate?

I don't think that I could get used to a 4 way gate really fast unless the actual gate "diameter" is really small, and even then, I don't think that I would really feel totally comfortable executing Shoryuken/Uppercut motions on a four way if the "obstacle" of the corner of the gate was too jarring during the f, d, df motion ( I grew up on Happ sticks and really never got used to "short, ball top, japan style sticks" - never had to -.

I'm also wondering: Do most people hold the ball top stick with their Thumb, Forefinger and Middle finger (with their Ring and Pinky fingers resting beneath their grip)?

If I don't like the TE Madcatz Sticks and can't adapt to them for the aforementioned reasons, is the Stick easily swappable with a Happ or Perfect 360, or would extensive soldering or modding be necessary?

Thanks for your time, Markman! :)

Has anyone used one of these:

Controller_Shell.jpg

"The XCM D-Pad has been redesigned and optimized. The new XCM wireless controller shell uses a much larger d-pad with more room to allow the d-pad to move more when using it. This will make sure you do not accidentally hit another direction on the d-pad while trying to access something else."

http://www.renchi.com/renchi/Xbox_360_Accessories_Wireless_Controller_Shell_with_new_D_Pad_Black_XCM.htm

Not sure if it's worth the 29 bucks just to be able to play slightly better until the Mad Catz pads come out... On the other hand it'd be wireless!

You can tape the lower part of the restrictor with some tape.
Take a look at this to find out what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QytcbzZmXaI
Only do the part from 4:40
If you do the whole thing (exchanging spring, preloading switches and zeroing deadzone), you'll get a very, very tight and responsive stick, but I found it uncomfortable for fighters. It was great for shooters though, so if you like those, you can always give it a whirl.

I currently play with my HRAP3 in stock condition, after having tried various degress of restriction/spring replacements. I feel it's just the best for 2D fighters when used properly in this condition. But different folks, different preferences :-)

I seem to be able to perform special moves much easier from the 2p position when playing HD remix, than the 1p position. (going left to right). Is this normal? It isn't the stick, because I can do the moves, but it is just more difficult to perform them quickly. I hope this goes away with practice.

Same for me, when I'm on 1p side I have issues with 2 qcf. What I found helps is going to back, then doing HCF first then qcf, pressing forward and the button at the same time. This will usually register supers for all games for me. Took me like 7 years to develop this technique!!! :lol

Ahh, I will have to try this. Thanks for the advice! :D

Just did the tape mod with my new sanwa 8-way restrictor plate and seimitsu buttons. Ah man, does it feel just right for me. The shorter the throw, the better (for me at least). Thanks for the tip!

Plus the screw on Seimitsus feel much sturdier than the snap-ons.

I have a strange, super weirdo question:

I have an HRAP3, but I much prefer the layout of the HRAP1. I know that you can just swap the plates and everything works out.

Would anyone be willing to trade plates?

I'd have used a Tekken 5 one but I don't know anyone that can cut the plate.

edit: Otomedius stick is GODLIKE
props to you man

First off, awesome thread. Glad I noticed it. Been reading through it and it's really got me considering some entry-level stick modding.

Modding aside, the release of STHD Remix has me groovin' back into the fighting game genre again, along with the impending SFIV release. I haven't really touched a fighting game in a serious tone in almost 10 years(Soul Calibur DC), with being off and on with 3S in the past couple. With that being said, it's been a long time since I've bought an arcade stick.

I currently own the Agetec Dreamcast fighting stick(Green Goblin), and the Namco PSX fighting stick. I bought these a very long time ago, and they'e been excellent right out of the box even to now. I'm expecting at least this level of quality from the next stick I buy, which leads me to my next paragraph.

I need an xbox360 fighter stick and my budget is around $100. I've been looking at the Hori RAP EX, despite it being $20 over budget, since it comes out pretty soon. I don't know if I should go ahead and pre-order it or just wait it out and save up a few more bucks for the SFIV TE stick; possibly the SFIV normal FightStick?

I'd rather wait 1 month instead 3 months to get a new stick, so any input on these sticks would rock. Hell, any info on some sticks I may have no idea about, or someone that has a better recommendation is completely welcome. I'm all ears.

Offtopic: If anyone wants to hit me up for some STHD on 360, PM me. I'd love to practice in some friendly competition.

For adding Sanwa buttons to my PS3 HRAP3, do I need the OBSN-30's with the threaded and including mounting nut, or without?

From what I have read, the two buttons nearest the joystick have to be snap-ins because of space issues, but the other buttons can be either snap-ins or the threaded nut ones, whatever you prefer.

Go with OBSF-30s. They'll fit in just fine.

As one CC avatar to another, I can tell you in this thread, I was told to use all snap ins on my HRAP EX because they work better with a metal plate, where as the threaded nut buttons can slip on metal.

What happened to Arcade-In-A-Box? Their site is down hard. I haven't seen any posts about this yet so all apologies if this has been covered.

What stick is this? How much?
HRAP3SA. Full Sanwa version of HRAP3. HORISTORE is selling it for 10,000 Yen (a bit over $100 USD). Renchi (lol) is selling it for 200 fucking dollars. I'm sure it can be had cheaper once other importers put it up for preorder.

Is this import only or will it be released in North America with the HRAP3?

^^

So...

Are the gates 4 or 8 way on these SF4 sticks? Stop ignoring us please.

All i know is that somebody said this:

http://www.arcadeshock.com/items/pr...de-pro-ex-for-xbox-360-horixboxpro-detail.htm

was supposed to be the best arcade stick avaliable for the 360, once it gets released.

Since i was on a Arcade Stick fever (as in, i wanted one), i placed a perorder on it and.... that's it. I've been waiting for like, 3 months already or smth. They didn't even answer my email asking what the hell is going on.

I blame somebody on this thread, not sure who, because i don't feel like searching.. :D

Cancel you order if you feel uneasy about it. Alternatively, Amazon will have them in stock December 29.
Yes, currently HRAPEX is the best retail stick for 360. I <3 mine.

It's not that i feel uneasy about it. They already charged me, and they're the only ones that i found that would ship them internationally... it's just that something about when it's going to be avaliable would've been nice.

Ah, gotcha. That's lame. Did you email them?

I placed the order on 10/13/2008. Since I purchased this arcade stick mostly for SFIIHD and SF4, i didn't care that they didn't have a date. It was a preorder, i understand the concept.

I didn't care much about it till now, because... well.. SFIIHD came out.. and i had a faint memory of buying a arcade stick to play it.

So i sent them an email last monday asking when was the stick going to be avaliable, with the release of SFIIHD and SF4 coming closer.

Still no answer.

I never liked my Hori Fighting Stick EX2 that much, but it works. So i'm not that "OMG GIMME" about it... still..

If you want to sell it, PM. They're nice sticks if you take the time to change the gate/buttons. I need another. I prefer their size/button layout compared to the HRAPs. Those are too big IMO.

Not to mention the Hori buttons. I hate those things.

That too. They're pretty shitty if they're the same ones in the EX2.
