Shoutouts to Laugh with some cool news from South Korea. He is gonna update the Etokki Omni after EVO! It would be awesome to see it either have a Sega Astro City/Lindbergh or Namco Noir layout in the next version.

Also apparently Crown is making a new version of their 303N lever to allow compatibility on Mad Catz and Hori mounting plates without the need for a new panel. I can't wait for the final look and test its effectiveness in existing platforms!

That's the SMARTEST thing I've heard an arcade parts manufacturer do in a LONG time!

IF they want to expand internationally, there has to be a common measurements/compatibility standard they adhere to...

Like it or not, that standard is the Japanese standard and most of us own Japanese-style joysticks.

I could go into WHY some people still resist conforming to that standard and the reasons some WON'T buy Japanese products but that would be getting into territory I'd rather discuss face-to-face with people to make sure they don't misunderstand me...

Suffice it to say, I've been bit by a curiosity bug where some Korean parts are concerned and have wondered how their buttons and joysticks respond and stack up against the Japanese standards. I'm the type of consumer who'll buy FROM anyone as long as the quality is there and they're not involved in ultra-shady business on the side.

I just purchased 2 PS2 HRAP2 SA joysticks and wanted to know if anyone has any experience with putting Seimitsu parts in one. Specifically, I want to install either a LS-56-01 or LS-58-01 joystick, with octagonal restrictor plate. Does anyone know if this is possible and what mounting plate I might need to use?

So in March of last year I bought myself a Chun Li TE S as a birthday present, right? I figured "I'm finally going to learn to play some other fighting games and I'm going to learn stick at the same time." It didn't work out, something felt off about the stick and I didn't like it. I thought maybe it was the square gate but that didn't change my feelings and the stick just sat around.

A few months later I ended up buying the limited SFxT Pro Stick and I noticed myself liking that more, maybe it was because I was using it for playing DOA++ but something felt "right." Since then, the few times I have played something, I've been using the SFxT stick, the one that felt right. Just recently I've really gotten into VF5FS and I've been using the SFxT stick. I've managed to more or less get some difficult stuff down like Akira's knee and Jean's guard break follow-up but I've still been struggling with diagonals. Hell, I have an easier time pulling off Akira's 1 frame knee launcher than his 33P launcher.

The Chun stick still has the octo-gate in it so I wanted to try that out just this very moment and I noticed that the entirety of the stick is loose as hell, all of the buttons and the actual stick itself. It feels mushy and off. I can't even get the knee to register on this thing without slamming on the guard button and then it'll register more than a frame. No wonder I couldn't play on this thing.

How the hell did my brand new, stock TE S get so loose out of the box? This put back my learning fighting games for almost a year and I'm kind of disappointed to learn that now. Maybe I could've been at Evo competing for something this year! Not likely, but still, haha. Short of replacing everything in the stick, what can I do to fix this thing?

It'll work.

The HRAP SE/SE models have universal joystick mounts.

Use the MS mount with the LS-58-01... That's the mounting plate they sell with the LS-58-01 at most shops in the US.

Don't know if you have to swap out the VF Mounting plate on the LS-56-01 or not, though. An LS-56 MS Mount should work with the HRAP 2 SA. LS-56 and LS-58 mounting plates are NOT cross-compatible so you would have to buy the Mounting Plate made specifically for the LS-56 series.

The Seimitsu octogate fits both the LS-56 and LS-58...

For sure, the LS-58 will fit in fine as-is into the HRAP 2 SA case... Major difference between that joystick lever and the LS-56 besides the redesigned mounting screw-in is the spring. The spring in the LS-58 is softer and the joystick is in general looser than the LS-56-01. However, if you don't like the stock LS-58-01 tension, others have said it's possible to replace the LS-58 spring with an LS-56 spring.

FYI, I put an LS-32-01 into MY HRAP 2 SA...

Amen to that brother. Noir + a neutrik USB passthrough would make this a must-buy for me.
And I actually have very little use for a dual-mod stick.

This seems relevant to our interests:

'Joystick Gamers' photobook of Japanese arcade machines and game centers. I've been watching a lot of Game Center CX lately, and the TamaGe arcade visits are always the most fascinating. I'm gonna need to get me one of these.

Interesting...

I caught a glimpse of a diagram of a Sega Dreamcast VMU unit...
The way it appeared to me, I'm wondering if my presumption that it was possible to share data from a home Dreamcast unit with a Naomi unit wouldn't be too far off???
(May have read that way back when in a magazine when the Dreamcast actually looked like it MIGHT survive but I forget...)

It seemed like most of the most machines were vintage... at least 10-15 years old.
I'm pretty sure I saw one of the Street Fighter III games (Third Strike?) loaded on one of the arcade cabs.

If I recall correctly VOOT allowed transfering data between the DC and NAOMI version using a VMU, so the feature was actually used at least once.

What you all know about dat KFC stick?

Hands down, one of the best custom work I've ever seen. I almost fell out of my chair in tears when I saw this.

This comes from B15sdm many collections, so this should come as no surprise.

Saw this on Siliconera this morning. Dead or Alive 5 stick by Hori announced for Japan, both PS3 and 360. 14 800 Yen.

Looks like they're re-using the cases for the SoulCalibur V sticks with the start button door. I'm not really a fan of the art or the all white buttons/balltop though.

God damn, that shit is ugly.

Don't really care for the franchise though.

Also, picked up this little cute one a few days ago:

And, back in cali, a ton of sticks were waiting for me. Have not really checked them out yet. Did look at the Gundam...it is all metalic, which is way neat.

should I buy a MadCatz fightpad for Xbox 360? I would prefer to use a Saturn controller somehow, but Iunno...

which fightpad is better? the SF4 one or the SFxT one?

markman is there any word on if the evo sticks will be available on the evo floor today? someone at the madcatz booth said there was issues with customs or something yesterday.

I have a technical question. In the pick-up thread Yes Boss! posted a nice pic of the XE-1 Pro HE PC Engine stick. I noticed that there is a dial around the stick to toggle between 4-way and 8-way operation. How is that accomplished? I'm assuming the simplest way is to rotate the square gate 45 degrees to make a "fake" 4-way restrictor. If you get a chance, I'd love to see an internal picture Yes Boss!

Does Street Fighter X Tekken V.S PS3 work on a PC? Or is the Chun Li stick the only PS3 stick that actually had the PCB change that worked on more chip sets?

Have not decided if I'm going to open it up. It was pricey and has a warranty sticker covering one of the screws so might leave it as it is. If I do I'll take pics.

Btw, stick is ridiculously small. Extreme high quality (Micomsoft, afterall). And has a four-way multi-tap built in on the right side. One of my most unique sticks. Check out the size:

It does look really neat. And I never knew Micomsoft made controllers, so it's been educational for me as well! Don't worry about taking it apart, it looks like I answered my own question. Looks like I guessed right, and also that the ring that rotates is the gate/restrictor. I was assuming there was a mechanism at the base of the stick that also rotated the gate, like the ones found in traditional arcade sticks. Cool stick all around.

I was thinking about changing the side panels on my TE round 2. Do they sell these by themselves? Like a slimmer one or maybe just a panel that is flat to look more like the TE-S cases? I saw that Focusattack has wooden panel sides for $30 a pair, but I was maybe hoping there's a plastic solution that Just Works™ rather than something semi-complicated to install or that I would have to paint/finish to not look out of place.

Seems like an obvious answer, but those MadCatz SFxTekken FightPads that are on the EVO sale work for the PC, right? My assumption would be that the 360 wired version would work just like any old 360 wired controller, but I wanted to make sure. I use stick for fighters, but I'm kinda considering one of those for PC indie and retro games. Seems like a perfect fit.

Is the Hori Soul Calibur V arcade stick any good? It's $99.99 on amazon. I want a stick again before Persona 4 Arena comes out and that seems like a good price which includes free shipping.

Damn, that stick is really good. Fantastic weight, very nice build. I just pulled one out of the box and was thinking, "for $100" this is an incredible stick." My only issue is the glossy front, usually Horis have matte. But it seems like most of the manufacturers are doing glossy now.

Also, I put together my VS set. Pretty magnificent setup. Perfect for a gameroom, sitting on the floor in front of a big screen with a friend. I'm taking it to San Francisco next week for some SF fun with the brother.

Nice and easy to piece together with the connector set, very clear instructions.

(changed the stock colors to all Dark Hai, like the PS3 version).

Holy shit this looks awesome.

Hey MarkMan, do you know the exact converter that Shining Decopon was using with his Xbox 360 controller during that Soul Calibur V Grand Finals?

Great price for a very slick looking stick. Id actually sell my TE for that simply because I need another good PC stick.

Holy shit this looks awesome.

Pretty class. And very, very heavy. Good times all around. Definitely a showpiece.

I'd love to see somebody buy two, change everything to Seimitsu and then make it a custom shooter stick based on one of the candies. Honestly, the length of the two together feels almost like an official control panel.

Need some help with somebody familiar with mounts, etc. Looked online and SRK and can not find an answer.

Basically, want to put Seimitsu stick in my Hori Edge. Going by the photo is it possible, do I need anything extra like mounting plate? Prefer to put a LS-32 in there, if possible.

If photo is too fuzzy I can take another as the stick is still open.

Also, anybody know of a place in Orange County, CA that sells arcade parts? I'm in the Irvine area.

I think the enclosure on the current lever is blocking so much of the existing mounting plate we can't really get much from that photo. If the lever can be removed so the bare mounting plate is there only you can probably get a better answer... but at that point you'd just be able to test fit a replacement lever yourself.

Taking the stick off then I'll do another photo.

A LS-32 is typically mounted flush against the top panel with help of the SS plate it's typically sold with. I would guess that it should drop right in, but can't say for certain without precise measurements. Can we get a more "head on" shot of the bracket? A straight down shot so we can gauge the distances between screw holes and stuff.

It is thin as shit.

Sorry, my camera is kinda jank. It is not really focusing.

DSC00535.jpg

And this is what the plate actually looks like on the included stick.

DSC00536.jpg

Oops, I meant the other way. Looking straight down onto the underside of the top panel. As long as the screw holes line up, and there is enough space for the body on the stick between the mounts you're good.

You will need at least 68.9mm between the mounts to fit a LS-32 with the SS plate.

Is the versus stick worth it? I am looking at getting one.

Yes, seems quite a beast. Heavy, if that is your type of thing. I'm going to play on it next week. It is all plastic exterior...I always thought it was metal from the pics (and similar looks to VSHG and Omni, I guess). At the discounted price-point it is a great stick.

Though, putting it up to the new Fightstick from Madcatz I'd go with a VS.

So, like this?

DSC00537.jpg

Yup. Assuming that hole is 24mm, I would guess that there is maybe 92mm between the closest screw holes. That means the SS mounting plate is too short. If that's the case, you would need to use the MS plate, which would make the LS-32 sit too low. (Just like with the Deathsmiles stick the other day.)

I'm only guessing here. I would grab a ruler and measure the hell out of the bracket, and then see what can fit. Here's a good SRK post about different plate dimensions.

excellent, thanks. I just bought one of the evo sticks but I will wait till next sale to get a VS.

Cool,

I'm also going to open up one of my Qanba Seimitsu sticks, see what is in there and maybe compare. Hopefully there is an LS-32-01 in them.

Idea is to send this Edge stick back home to Germany next week via mail, then pick up the needed parts for this and the DSII stick while stopping in japan at the end of the month on the way back, then put it all together and have a new Shooter stick for the rest of the year.
