Green Goblin for Christmas!

playing Marvel in a few!

Has anyone in Canada been able to preorder a SF4 stick?

I know it's been asked several times but I haven't seen an answer yet :lol

My local EB says they aren't taking pre-orders (yet) but will be carrying the stick.

I probably have OCD so I'll probably just order a second HRAP3 Amazon to match my currrent stick :lol

(or maybe the HRAP 3SA)

How are you connecting to the television with your Saturn? I'm about to ship my Saturn back to my place and only have an HDTV. I know it's probably going to be ugly cause of the composite cables + resolution.

That's baller... The TE stick should definitely be cheaper. Of course I don't live in the Canadas, so I don't know what the availability is like. I'm sure Markman'd be able to do a paypal transaction for all of the folks interested in one...thus spreading his MadCatz empire across the GLOBE. Mwah, ha, ha, ha, ha.

Hey markman or anyone else who knows about the SFIVTE stick: can you confirm that is a JLF stick? does this mean it has an adjustable 4/8 way gate?

I have it set up with s-video and run it in "game mode" to reduce any upscale-induced lag as much as possible.

TBH nowadays I just prefer using SSF and a couple of USB saturn pads.

It's the exact same parts as the Vewlix panel, so in short, yes.

Will the high-end SFIV stick be available at Best Buy? I have a gift card that I'd like to use on it.
I don't believe so, no.

and if you don't pre-order, they will be very hard to come by. resale market will probably be sinful.

on the GS website it says we get a headband if we pre order, but on the capcom website it says we get an artbook, which is correct (hopefully both)?

Hey guys, I just got a Hori EX2 for my 360 for Christmas so I could have something to play fighting games on, and I couldn't believe how much I hated the stick on this thing. I mean, I had heard that there were much better sticks out there (I didn't want to ask for something too expensive) but I had the impression that anything would be better than a 360 pad. Problem is, I actually have an easier time playing SSFIITHDR with the fucking 360 d-pad than with this stick.

Do you all have any suggestions? I'm not really an expert in soldering or anything but I really don't want this thing to go to waste.

If you've never used an arcade stick before (or are used to american style sticks) you will definitely be much worse on the hori than you are on a pad. That's just to be expected as it's completely different from what you're used to. I dunno how experienced you are with sticks, but I'm thinking this may just be a case of you not being comfortable with one yet.

However, if you're still interested in modding: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=131221

It's not an easy/pretty mod with the EX2 (the DOA4 stick and the EX2 are identical, just a different sticker), but it is doable.

I remember using my student loan money to spring for the DC, that controller, and Marvel. 1999 forever!

Fake edit: I'm going with the TE over the HRAP3.

What exactly is the problem you're having with it? I just got one as a gift today as well. I knew going in that it wasn't the best of sticks. I just wanted something that would serve as a step up above the 360 pad and, at the same time, act as training wheels until I get the TE stick. I must say, despite all the negativity, I'm quite impressed. My move execution is 1000 times better than the 360 pad. And I actually was fairly good at executing with the D-pad! I can probably pull any given move 95% of the time now vs. something like 70% on the 360 pad. And the 5% I'm missing on the EX2 feels more like my fault than the stick's.

On the other hand, it does feel cheap. And the buttons are disappointing. Though they always register. I'm looking forward to the added heft and authentic parts found in the TE. One other thing that surprised me was my comfort with the square gate. I don't think I've ever played on a stick that had one. I was a little worried that it would pose a problem, especially with all the people who complain about it. Needless to say, it hasn't been a problem. Relives one of my worries regarding the TE stick! :D

Despite my improved execution, however, I am getting my ass kicked more online in SSF2THDR. I'm not very good at movement and utilizing all the buttons comfortably yet. I blame this on my lack of time with a stick though. It should get better as I get more comfortable with it. BTW, does anyone have any links that teach proper technique or give any tips with regards to getting comfortable with sticks?

Despite the growing pains, the EX2 has really got me pumped to grab a TE. These things come in handy for so much more than Street Fighter (and fighting games in general). I tested it out today with Galaga, Pac-Man, Defender, Puzzle Fighter, and Ikaruga (in addition to SSF2THDR, UMK3, DOA4, and VF5). The experience with each game is improved incredibly. With what is already out, and with what will be coming out, the TE stick really does seem to be a good investment.

I canna go through the whole thread but I wanted to know about purchasing a whole cab for my garage/room.

Basically I am interested in getting SF:II cab, or a cab which I can get ROMS for other SF games like Marvel vs Capcom etc

But the MAIN problem I know I will come across; I am in England...

*edit, my experience is with electrical electronic engineering so the hardware work is no problem, as well as the possible/probable PC configuration being needed. It's just a huge problem getting my hands on a cab, then knowing what to do after that

I used to play religiously in the arcade during the Alpha to 2I years, so I'm used to playing with Happ competition sticks and straight button layouts, but when I used my HRAP3 for the first time, I was like wtf?

I've used ball sticks in the past and always had issues utilizing them. You just have to get used to using them. Nothing is going to change if you move to a HRAP EX or SFIV TE except higher quality parts.

To buy a third HRAP3 or not? It's pretty cheap at $90.

Are they easy to install? I'm considering getting one, but I have no experience with any of this.

To they guy who sucks on the stick. I sucked at first too. This is to be expected. Just practice and play with it. You will begin to love it. I have a hori ex2.

Seriously, what do you do with all of these joysticks? Six... I have two, and I think that's too much. You're crazy Markman...

I'm surprised you haven't written a coffee table book on joysticks. Or maybe you can have an online videocast "Pimp My Joystick." It could show new arcade or home fighters, meet experts and see what kind of sticks they use, do interviews with stick manufacturers, modders, etc plus reviews.

Arcade stick inside my arcade stick?

I would watch this.

I paid in full a preorder for the X360 SFIV Tournament Edition stick. Will preorder the actual game (CE, of course) later.

Since the arcade near me that has BlazBlue also imported a Veiwlix cab to put the game in, I'll give it a spin so I can know what to expect from the stick...

It's pretty easy to change the gate on a Sanwa JLF stick, just slightly push in the 4 tabs connected to the existing gate and slip it off, then snap the new one into the tabs. I did it on my VSHG, good times! The difficulty in modding a joystick with Sanwa parts could be actually trying to get to the parts depending on the shell design than servicing them, might have to unscrew and disassemble a lot of stuff just to get there. But really it's not much of an issue.

Hey guys I just got STHD and I just wanted to know the quality of the Fighting Stick EX2 for the 360. I am going preorder the SFIV TE stick soon but I can't wait till Feb to use a stick with this game. Is the EX2 good enough for playing till the TE stick comes out?

Thanks for your help

I'll try to do it once I get my SF IV TE stick, if it's easy. I really want the Happ 8-Way Competition Joystick more than the ball. If the top part is easy to switch with the SF IV TE sticks I'll probably just do that. It's more about comfort level for me :p

The top part is pretty easy to do too, on the bottom of the actual JLF stick there's a slot you can place a flathead screwdriver, put it there and hold it so you can easily unscrew the top. If you're going to replace the ball top with a Sanwa brand western-styled bat top you'll need a screw adapter to make it fit the JLF stick. All that is available at Lizard Lick too.

I'm really interested in your idea of putting a Happ 8-way in your SFIV TE stick... we may be in the same boat come February!

I think it's great. I played SF IV at the arcades with a similar stick and loved it. Considering I never play at the arcades and this is my first stick, I think it would benefit me to go with the Happ 8-way.

I also grew up on the Happ so I was originally planning to buy a tighter spring, 8 way gate and bat top for my SFIVTE.

But after checking out the price of an 8-way competition Happ on Lizard Lick, I may as well go that route :lol

Actually I was quite surprised myself at how cheap it is. February couldn't come any sooner D:

Hmm. The EX2 is a good entry level stick. I guess the story is, if you're a stick veteran, the EX2 will let you down. If you wouldn't know better, you could get the ex2 for a bit, and then be blown away by the SFIV TE. The resale price for EX2 on ebay has been pretty consistent it seems, so chances are you wouldn't lose more than ~$10 if you bought it now and resold it when you got your SFIV stick. I'm a bit of a stick noob though, so i'd wait for other opinions.

Another thing you might want to check out is adding a little electric tape in order to get a more restricted feel. Foxspirit helped me out with this when I was popping in my Sanwa 8-way gate in my HRAP3.

FoxSpirit said:
You can tape the lower part of the restrictor with some tape.
Take a look at this to find out what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QytcbzZmXaI
Only do the part from 4:40
If you do the whole thing (exchanging spring, preloading switches and zeroing deadzone), you'll get a very, very tight and responsive stick, but I found it uncomfortable for fighters. It was great for shooters though, so if you like those, you can always give it a whirl.

I didn't do too much in terms of exchanging the spring, but with that mod, I have a shorter throw which makes it way easier for my own personal control. Everyone's mileage will differ as some people like their sticks with a little more play, but I'm really glad I did this and will probably do the same with my SFIV stick.
