Just tried using the HRAP in SFA Anthology and HD Remix. Normally, my strong side is the left side or 1P but with the RAP, it's the right side...doh. I have issues consistently hitting uppercuts and supers...

But I'm going to keep giving it the old college try

I have the same problem, more with Supers than anything else. Too much time on pads through the 90s. :lol

After much consideration, and annoying quesions to the board, I have decided to save $60 by getting a HRAP3 and just modding it with Sanwa buttons, eventually. I really want the SF4 TE but the price is just a bit out of my budget. Thanks for the thread Markman, great info...and thanks to the kind souls that answered my questions without much sarcasm.

It's really more of a $30 savings if you plan on replacing (all of) the buttons with Sanwas, since the full set of OBSF 30 and 24 (for start/select) is gonna cost you about $30.

I like the TE stick though, I love that the button layout resembles a Japanese and American arcade cabinet together. Plus I want another stick for 360.

Yeah, I realized that as well, but I guess I should say that I didn't have $150 to put out at once...I can take my time replacing the buttons, plus I will probably only replace the six heavy-use buttons.

Don't get me wrong, the TE is un-fucking-believable and the unboxing vid definitely made me sad that I can't have it, but those are the breaks in this economy.

Such a shame. While places like LizardLick offer great service they really do rip you off.
Pushbuttons don't actually cost $3.
Forum denizens like ponyboy can provide parts at prices nearer to what the manufacturers charge, but I've kinda been apprehensive towards going that route (plus it looks like ponyboy is on hiatus anyway).

I pre-ordered the SF4 TE stick for 360 from amazon. Its my first fighting centric stick, I had an Xarcade I sold to a friend who made it into a MAME cabinet. Whats the word on custom art for the TE stick? Im not a fan of the OOTB top.

My HRAP3 came in today and i'm trying to mod it. How do I remove the buttons with the quick disconnect? I tried pulling it straight out, but it catches on to something. I don't want to pull too hard and risk breaking something.

Wiggle it *a little* and apply a bit more pressure while pulling. There are "ridges" so to speak on the quick disconnect terminal, etc. so they "lock" a little bit. Don't get too rough with it, but keep working on it.

There must be a easier way? I'm still working on the first one and it's only 15% out :(

How is it? Amazon shipped mine today and I should get it next week sometime.
I don't know. I'm in the process of swapping the hori buttons for sanwas. Didn't try it out prior to modding. Jumped straight in. :)

Went to gamestop today to reserve a couple of tournament SF4 sticks...they are not taking preorders...where is the best place to secure at least one of these? (not taking on the pads either)

Amazon is your best bet. No taxes and free shipping.

Hey Markman,

Quick question...I was wondering if the Street Fighter TE Sticks were going to be easy to mod in the case of the ball top. I'm not really a ball top type of player (reminds me of the old Ms. Pac-man Cabs from the hay day). Even though I hear it has quicker response time.

Anyway, This question will probably be answered at CES....but just wanted your opinion on your preference and if this is something that is doable. here is a link to what I want to do.

And in other news today.....I just found out that Final Burn Alpha for PSP V12p2 just recently came out and it supports some CPS3 games. SF3 is supported but it plays really slow (15-18 frames). I think its pretty sweet that they have it up and running and shows promise that it may just be on it's way for a solid release soon enough. I'm still playing it regardless of the slow play. :D

naysayers who said it could not be done are eating a mad plate of crow.:lol

Yes it is possible to put a bat top(needs adapter) but... lol at the way they did it there. If you really want to secure it you should do so from the bottom of the stick.

Happy New Year all!

This is the store info. Store 2444.

Asked about both the sticks and the pads...SF4 is going to hurt my pocket ;)

Lol...on the receipt I have a feedback number...may have to give them a call. :lol

Hey MarkMan, I know its a long shot but would you know if the SF4 TE sticks will be available at EB Games Canada (or anywhere else in Canada)?

Are there any video tutorials of this?

got my hrap 3 -- knew it was bigger than the basic hori sticks, but i wasn't expecting it to be so HUEG

can't wait to get some hd remix in. and i'm thinking of getting some sanwa buttons, though really just the rap is overkill for my skill level :/

I'd rather pay anyone on here willing to just make me a arcade stick. I've very picky about the buttons I use and the size and material its made from.

To be honest the info I got on how to change the top of a JLF stick was taken from MarkMan's website, on his review of the VSHG:

http://sdtekken.com/tech-area/arcade-sticks/ps3-vshg/virtua-stick-high-grade-review/

On the bottom of the stick there's this screw:

412438189_06129f6809.jpg

Just hold it using a flat head screwdriver and simply twist off the top on the other end of the stick, pretty easy :D

(All credit goes to MarkMan and his website =)

Edit: also, see those 4 black plastic tabs that are holding the square gate? Just push those in to slide off the gate and simply clip a new 8-way gate in.

Took me two hours (first time) to mod the buttons on the HRAP3.

The QD will not come out unless you loosen them a little with a tiny flat head.

Here are some tips;

1. Tiny screw driver to loosen QD for easy removal.
2. Don't over tighten the bolts that holds the top plate (button/joystick).
3. The bottom plate is tricky to put back in. Try holding down a corner and slowly forcing the other sides in. I had to get my gf to help me hold down one corner while I tried to snap in the others.

Impression - Joystick feels better than the Hori Fighting Stick, but I wish there was less space between the contacts?. I guess the rubberband/tape trick would probably fix this. The buttons are a upgrade from the Hori, but I wish it had a stronger spring.

I want to try a Seimitsu button/joystick combo now. I'll probably order the regular SF4 stick and convert it.

Thanks. Seems really, really easy, but I bet once I get my SF IV TE stick I'll be back here :p :lol

Gamestops around me say that the TE sticks are not available for preorder.... booo. I will just preorder online.

Also, for people using ps2 sticks on the ps3, what converter do you have and what converter can I get. Additionally, how hard is it to mod the Tekken anniversary stick with better stuff?

BTW, MarkMan, the store I work with isn't taking preorders on the control pads? This normal?

Edit: Also, what is the real release date on the sticks/pads? Gamestop has 17th while Amazon has 20th. Sup with the difference?

No, it's pretty simple. It's when you start soldering, changing out the PCB, etc. The stuff that requires you have a knowledge of basic electronics where you start to run into issues.

The TE stick comes awesome by default, so you should only need to do minor modifications.

And Mark, what about the HAIS adapter?

First time stick buyer here so I'm kind of confused.

I've pre-ordered SF4 TE fight stick. Will it work with any non-fighting games or not? Amazon/Gamestop product description page doesn't say anything about it. I read product description of HRAP EX for 360, and it works with non-fighting games too.

The best way to think of it as, is an arcade stick. What arcade games will you be playing? :D

I cant find any of these anywhere online. I must be looking in the wrong places.

Also what is this talk of more stick info at CES? Do we not already know almost everything about the TE stick?

There are those in doubt out there about the product. CES will give us plenty of impressions and I'm sure there is some other tid-bit info we haven't heard about yet.

XBLA including non-fighting games? Yeah I thought arcade stick will/should work with those games just wanted to confirm it before purchasing $150 stick.

You'll need to look on ebay for the most part, and pay a small premium for them ($30-50). Bemani gamers also use the Pelican adapter. Wish they were still in production.

Of course. Games like Pac-Man, Galaga Legends or Puzzle Fighter are ideal for an arcade stick. I'm sure there are tons more although I haven't really looked into them. But I'd say a good portion of XBLA games work great for an arcade stick. :lol Symphony of the Night is a interesting game to play with a stick.

They should have a made a dual compatible stick. I would pay quite a bit extra for that. :-/

I'm in a position similar to you (very similar, actually, I sold you the T5 stick! :) )

I went with 360, and here's my reasoning. I currently have SF: AC on PS2 (i.e. PS3) and HD Remix on PSN. So why did I go for 360? The online, and the fact that, should I ever REALLY need to play on a d-pad, my dual shock is pretty decent, whereas the 360 d-pad has its well known problems. It's actually kinda weird, I feel like I'm abandoning the PlayStation, as it was usually my machine of choice with fighting games because of the d-pad. The only real problem would be local matches, because whoever the second player is, is going to be stuck playing on a crappy 360 d-pad, but I don't really know many people in my area that would play, and if they did, they probably have (or will be getting) a stick themselves.

Since the crappy 360 d-pad was the only thing really stopping me, getting the 360 stick allows me to enjoy it even more as well as reap the benefits of a consistently better online experience through Live. I say consistently because I obviously have no real knowledge of what SF4's online is supposed to be like, but in general, Live on-line is usually better in actual quality as well as usability (interface and such). And yeah, it costs money, but I don't mind, so let's not start a console war :p.

So yeah, short answer is, I went with the 360 because of the quality of the online and that the PS3 d-pad is alright should I ever need to use it. And as for SF:AC and HD Remix, AC for Xbox is currently on its way in the mail, and HD Remix is going to be purchased from Live soon as I get my stick :)

I was wondering if it is possible for Capcom to provide software solution for cross-platform compatibility of arcade sticks like guitars/drums in music games.

MirageDwarf said:

I may be mistaken, but as far as I'm aware I think they only have cross-game compatibility between Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour not cross platform compatibility.

Hey markman, sorry if this was asked before but...is the SF4 TE stick easy to mod?

I'm thinking if I just can't adjust to the jp style sanwa stick, I'd like to be able to possibly plop in a Happ competition bat top instead.

MThanded said:

only way is to mod two separate PCBs with a switch to toggle between the two. might be able to find someone you can pay to do it if you can't solder.

Akuma001 mods HRAP3s to play on PS3/360...or you can go the expensive route and buy from Arcadeinabox.

And the SFIV TE stick can be modded, as well as the normal Fight Stick.

And don't the HAPP 360s require extra voltage to work?

it's probably just a matter of getting used to it, but i feel like i'm missing inputs more often with my hrap3 than the old hfs3 :/
