I was more surprised by the "lead designer" part than the 100 sticks part (I figured that was obvious about MarkMan at this point :lol ). But yeah, I had no idea you were lead designer, good shit man.

It works just fine in MAMEui, I let Windows XP find the drivers and when I loaded up MAMEui, hit P and then Tab to set up the joystick to work with the game.

That one did the trick, thanks again. It's weird that all the other versions of MAME (all 64bit) didn't work, but the one titled MAMEui64 did, oh well back to Dungeons and Dragons :D

From that Gamecyte article:
Name: Street Fighter IV FightStick
Price: $80 ($70 for PS3)
Impression: Serviceable
Having just come from testing the Tournament Edition, the regular-ol’ white FightStick was a downgrade. By comparison, the stick is clicky, loose and inaccurate, the buttons imprecise. But it was usable. With mod-friendly bells and whistles carried over from its big brother, this could become the modder’s stick of choice.
No cord caddy though, sadly.

?!

Are they just saying this because they can really tell the difference between the tourny stick and the normal one...because loose/inaccurate and imprecise sound bad ; ;

I mean how can the normal stick be called better than the Fighting Stick 3 or EX2, yet still decribed as having a loose inaccurate stick and imprecise buttons? I know the lower end Hori sticks arent the best of the best or even close, but they werent imprecise in the least bit...at least not for me anyway.

Was the fighting stick 3 or EX2 known to be inaccurate and imprecise?

Damn I want my stick so bad now. :D

because the fight stick 3 is a pile of shit

edit: if you can get the same buttons that are in the TE stick for $18 does it really matter?

Wait wait...wow I just realized they're actually talking about Markman himself in the podcast(right?) :lol didnt know you worked for Mad Catz, thought it was just a temp three way project.

At the expense of sounding like a snob and exposing myself to proponents of korean fanta sticks....all other sticks/pushbuttons feel loose/inaccurate/imprecise compared to sanwa or seimitsu parts :P

It's fine though as long as its mod friendly. Just swap out the stick and pushbuttons for better ones if you feel the need to upgrade later on down the road.

Thats what I thought, so basically they're just saying compared to the best of the best it feels inaccurate.

So all in all, you should be able to pull off what you want, when you want with the standard out of the box. But when you use a higher quality stick, you'll be able to tell the difference.

The way they were describing it made it sound junky in the written section :lol

And yeah, I might end up modding it if doesnt feel up to par. Then again, I can pull off moves and combos just fine with with my fighting stick 3...so the stock mad catz regular would be an increase in quality and responsiveness for me.

And now my desire for a TE stick rises once again. Le sigh...

I just wish there were more articles on the regular fightstick or at least the ones that talk about the TE would go into decent detail/hands on with the regular as well.

Hey Markman, do you happen to know the reason behind the PS3 TE stick delay? It doesn't seem like it'll be that much of delay, but I'm just curious.

Or is this delay only for Lizardlick allotments?

Same here. The thing you pasted got me a little worried, I must say. :(

The first week in March is a long delay imo.

Well i've reassured myself with this:

As far as playability is concerned, both sticks are incredibly fun to virtually pummel each other with. Both seemed very responsive and the buttons were sturdy and loosely padded. The Tournament Edition did, however, have a notable competitive edge granted by its 30mm Action Buttons. Determining just how much of a competitive edge the Tournament Edition Arcade FightStick gives users will have to wait until we can perform a full review.

From IGN.

Plus there was that write up at SRK about how the regular stock stick was still pretty good quality. Maybe im just worrying over nothing.

Same. I'm so worried, that I'm willing to pay the extra 30 from play-asia. I need to stop worrying so much, but it's a combination of wanting the TE stick and then not getting enough information or negative press on the regular FightStick.

Havn't really paid much attention to the TE, but looking at the photos I'm just going to assume at least the buttons are different (Sanwa's as opposed to standard Hori's?)

Sanwa pushbuttons are featherlight with a really short travel distance. The buttons are so light you barely need to make an effort to press them. So much so, you avoid resting your hand against them ingame in fear that they'll register a press. As said, the button's travel is really short, with 3mm~ of movement to push the button to it's 'end' and less than 1mm for it to detect a press. Compared to my stock Hori buttons from my HRAP2, the Hori buttons are higher, longer travel, and arn't anywhere as light to press. They feel squishy in comparasion, but are still good.

I've never used a standard Hori stick so I have no idea how it compares to Sanwa's JLF. :lol

I really wish that he would say something about this, I know that he has been on...

I'm guessing there's going to be some official word coming, so maybe they don't want him saying anything yet until they've got something concrete to say.

edit: that being said it sure would be nice to know now! :[

Yeah the TE uses Sanwa components, and I guess the button response time is what aids high level players in making those split second counters and follow up attacks/combos. So all in all, the regular stick (being better than hori's regular sticks) should be 100% fine for normal-mid range skill play. At least thats what i'm thinking at this point. I mean, once the FS3 clicked with me, I was ecstatic that I could actually pull off 360 grapple attacks with ease.

I did tell him how to pronounce it :(

Also.

There is no delay.

Just some stores are on later shipments cuz they ordered later.

Thats all.

The stock stick has smaller buttons?

Man, I was hoping for better reviews of the $80 Fight Stick. While cheap in comparison to the TE stick, it's still not chump change.

I'm hoping that the "ho-hum" review is just because of his immediate switch from the TE.

This is going to be my first stick, so I hope I made the right choice.

Totally in the same situation as me. I preordered my regular stick January 7th.

I wouldn't worry. Worst case scenario, it's easily modded.

BTW,

the regular fight stick buttons are good, better than stock Hori IMO.

I don't know what that guy was talking about lol.

Stock Hori is kind of a low bar.

How does it compare to Agetec DC or Namco PS1's clone parts?

This is good. I hate my hori ex2 now that I have a VSHG. The biggest difference is the button sensitivity. You have to press the buttons all the way down for them to engage. It messes your timing up when you move to a better stick because you learn to compensate. I was pianoing my super moves for the longest time because I had a problem with the button timing....

Also the stick needs less movement to actually engage the microswitches. Big difference.

I've been recently playing on a friend's Hori EX2 here at work (mostly playing third strike) and was just wondering if anyone could compare that to the $80 sf4 madcatz stick.

One thing that I am having trouble getting used to on the EX2 is the difference between diagnals and horizontals. Diaganols click in, but the horizontal edges are flat (I guess there is a square piece beneath the stick?) Not sure if I am explaining this correctly, but just curious how the madcatz stick compares to the Hori.

This will be my first stick purchase, and I am probably going to go with that regular fight stick, but just wanted to get other folks opinions on how it compares to that Hori EX2.

Its times like these where I wish I only had one system. I am hesitant to buy a joystick for one platform or another not knowing how the final versions of SF4 would be. Now, this is Capcom's premier release of 09, probably eclipsing even RE5, I doubt they would cock up either, but still, it'd be nice to know.

I wish there was something that looked at the standard FightStick by itself. It really makes me uneasy about buying one when all of the impressions of it that seem to be out there only seem to say that it's not as good as the TE version.

Well the price disparity alone should be a fairly meaty warning.

As MarkMan has said, the stick is excellent, not TE quality, but with a few simple mods it can be as good.

How simple? Does the regular stick have the same labeled disconnects as the TE? I would think they'd use the same internals across both sticks to reduce cost. And can the artwork be swapped?

I might just get a pad (if they turn out alright) and take a wait and see approach to the sticks. If they're good and they catch on, maybe we'll see an unbranded version down the road.

Just finished modding my second EX2. I don't recommend anyone do this unless they're really cheap, require only 6 face buttons and have a slightly masochistic side to their personality.

Also, bat top > ball top.

Now if only they made translucent ones...
