My TE stick is due to arrive tomorrow!

I'm thinking about replacing the art on my sticks with a nice mid-century looking veneer to make them not look so out of place in my living room...anyone done something like that?

Edit-I was curious if anyone has a picture of the TE and LE sticks side by side, I have an LE and wonder exactly what the size difference is. I haven't even seen a TE stick in person.

Yay!

After few weeks of waiting, I finally got an email from LizardLick saying that my octagonal gate is on the way!

I can't wait for it to arrive, I love my TE, but square gates are not just for me.
The procedure should be really easy, right? Just pop the stick open, unscrew couple screws,
take the square gate out and snap the octagonal in?

Not sure what to think bout those sticks on kot... $190.. I think money is better spent going towards AiAB.

Wireless is cool though.

The gate is actually secured by four plastic tabs, it pops off. Also, open the stick from the top using a hex key, it's much easier. to access everything.

So I post the same stick over on SRK to see if anyone has tried one out and the flood of sarcasm and bullshit came on. Negative rep and death threats. Here on NeoGaf everyone is mature and gives constructive feedback. What the hell is going on with most of these SRK'ers? It took me over 6 months to have my account finalized over here but I'm liking the scene better for sure.

All right, from the top and not from the bottom!

So, I don't need a screwdriver at all to change the gate?

That's not bad pricing either by the looks of it.

Edit: How does the plexiglass work? Just something you place over the artwork? Would you need longer top screws?
yeah, you place it over the art to protect it from dirt, hand sweat, etc. there's no need for additional hardware, but snap-in buttons are a tight fit

What octogonal gate do I need to buy for my TE stick. I want to get one just to try it and see if I like it better than square.

I'm browsing LizardLick right now, but I have no clue what I'm doing.

One thing to note is that I am ordering from Canada. I don't know whether LizardLick or not is the best place.

Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Plate

Also, to all you guys switching to the octagonal gate, at least wait a month or two and try to get used to the square gate. I always find it funny that people try the square gate for a day or two, can't hadoken consistently, and want to switch gates. Getting used to the square gate will be worth it in the long run. Plus, if you give it a month or two, you'll be able to utilize your warranty should something come up.

Can't say I've been really having a problem with the square gate...I've just never tried an octogonal gate, so I wouldn't mind just giving it a shot to see what I prefer.

Well, it's easy to switch out so trying it out wouldn't hurt. Plus, by the time you get it from LL, the warranty for the stick will probably have passed. :lol

One thing I have noticed though, is that while there are people who switch to octagonal gates right in the beginning and enjoy it, I don't think I've ever read a case where someone gets comfortable with a square gate and then switches and prefers the octagonal gate. Just something to keep in mind.

If you're used to a square gate by now, the octo is a world of difference. Too much dead space and it feels like I'm having to put more work in simple command moves with my wrist. But it all boils down to preference.

The wooden one looks really smooth man. Good job. Hopefully, your problem is only a loose wire in the USB cord. Is it dual-modded by the way?

Ah! No - not dual-modded. Not enough space in the case. Turned out to be a loose wire. Fixing that loose wire, I broke another solder joint. Argh! Finally got it fixed and locked down, though - the stick is smooth like butter!

I've never modded anything ever.

Switching gates took me all of 5 minutes, and all I needed was a hex key.

As for octo vs square, it's all preference. Some people live by and swear on squares. That's neat, and a lot of excellent players find them more efficient. I could never, ever get used to it. My movements were always inconsistent; instead of doing a hadouken, sometimes I'd jump and do a jumping light punch, for example. I find the ability to confidently pull off what I want to be more than worth the tradeoff.

Well it took me all day yesterday and tonight, but my Hitman themed HRAP3 arcade stick now works on 360 and PS3 via a switch on the back

Can anyone tell me what I need to get to hook my Dreamcast Agetec stick to my Xbox 360?
There is no such thing as a Dreamcast to Xbox 360 converter, so you're going to have to gut it and replace with a 360 controller circuit board. Hack a cheap Madcatz/Gamestop 360 wired pad and wire it to the Agetec's buttons.

Damn that sounds like a lot of work and two broken controllers...

I got my TE stick last week using my 50% off amazon code, the stick came out to be $12 after 1-day shipping! But i was thinking about having the art replaced, this is my first attempt at making a replacement:

Finally. :D

Having a little trouble facing the right side of the screen and performing Ex Seismo > HJC > Burning Kick but I'm having a lot of fun so far. :D

I just modded my TE stick to use a bat top and octagonal gate the other day. Still contemplating whether I like the square or octagonal gate more... :|

I ended up going back to square, I really prefer it

When I first got a stick (Hori EX2), I thought the square gate was terrible. Replaced it with octagonal immediately... however, I unmodded it when I sold it and kept the gate/bat top. Now that I'm using them on my TE, I love the bat top, but the square gate might've felt better for playing MvC2. I think I'd prefer octagonal for old school games like UMK3. :\ Not sure where I feel it should be for Tekken 6.

A Mad Catz wired 360 controller. You need to take the pcb out of it and wire the buttons on the stick to it. You'll need to be good at soldering.
