its not hard if you're willing to pay, Art will cut your art with a laser and provide plexi. he can leave you the button cutouts too so you can insert them in buttons like on the ken stick below.
tek-innovations.com i've purchased from him twice and he's awesome

Hey, thanks for the informaiton.

I was going to make a collage out of EGM and GFW covers from mags I actually have, so it was going to be a little arts-and-crafty. But maybe I can just get the plexiglass (the hard part) and go from there.

hey stick-Gaf

what is the best way to clean out dust that is lodge between buttons and in the stick thing?

should I just buy an air-compressed dust thing and spray it there randomly or should I open up my stick?

it's a custom Sanwa stick for PS2

yup, for the chun stick i cut the art myself using the metal panel as a cutting template, make sure you get a sharp xacto knife, some kind of matt to put under it while you cut and be patient. That was before Art bought a ridiculous laser and started offering the art cut with the plexi. I paid to have him print the art and cut it for me on the ken stick and I was very happy with the result.

edit: wouldn't it be better to scan the covers and do it in photoshop? that way its at least a uniform thickness once you print it out.

It could be. I figured it was going to be smushed down by a smooth surface, anyways. Plus, there is the added charm of having real covers and the seams somewhat visible.

If anyone was on the fence about it, I can now confirm that with the PS3 3.30 update, the Hori HRAP V3 SA now works with PS2 VC!

NICE!

How does this compare to the original HRAP3 SA?

Yay! Today my Street Fighter IV PS3 SE arrived. It's heavier than I thought it would be, but so far I like it. The stick is comfortable and I could get used to having 8 face buttons.

I plugged it right into my PC to see what would happen and it just worked. Bonus! Thank you Intel chipset motherboard. Then I booted up SFIV to see what's what with a stick. I understand the appeal now. I'm bad at Street Fighter, I had to practice a lot on my FightPad to get a halfway decent execution rate on Shoryukens. Yes, I was THAT bad. On the stick, the Shoryukens come out easy, EX ones, too. Plus, I can do motions that I couldn't on my pad. Maybe I'll try out some Zangief now that neither 360 nor 720 seem impossible anymore.

Well, not gonna mod it until I get the feel of it. I kind of wish the buttons were a bit more... "click"-ish, but no modding until I get the hang of it as is. Might be a fun little summer project, maybe. The clickier quality buttons are the "Siemetsu" or similar, right?

So, now I wait for Super Street Fighter IV. Who knows, I might have a chance online with a bit of practice now. Eh, a LOT of practice, I think. Ah well, getting destroyed online is part of the fun. :D

awesome deskstick! haha sweet cake MarkMan!
I still am horrible with a stick. Funny cuz I was decent when playing SF4 at the arcades.
I just get frustrated that at the moment I can't do the same stuff I do on my fightpad.

Practice, practice, and uh, more practice.

<--- Wonders why he never thought to make a 'deskstick', or even knew of their existence.

Sapiens, do you know if the update patched compatibility for the Madcatz sticks too?

No clue, dude. Sorry. Don't have any Madcatz sticks to test. Here's hoping you guys were included in the update as well. I'm surprised no one has posted about it yet.

That's awesome.
Shame about input lag with BC though.

I was testing it was KOf98 UM and it felt fine to me. I'm running the game in the progressive scan mode. If there is lag, I am not able to perceive it...yet.

The stick is a little lighter, but the Sanwa parts are great. The 45 degree angle for the wrist rest feels great too, but that might be a personal preference.

High quality stick that was worth the money (I didn't have to pay full price :P)

which sticks have optical gates or w/e?
Not sure what you mean by "optical gate".
Happ Perfect 360, Sanwa Flash and ASCII Answer are optical sticks, meaning the lever doesn't employ moving microswitches. ASCII Answer and Sanwa Flash have square gates by default, while the Happ Perfect 360 (as the name would imply) has a circle one.

I'm not sure if this is about all things stick related but man I just wanted to vent some frustration here instead of the SSF4 thread.

I must have been borned without muscle memory, at least when it comes to playing on a stick. For 3 weeks I've been practicing about 5-6 days a week about 1-2 hours a day and I'm still having such a hard time just being comfortable with a stick.

When I do a jump in and do cr. LK, cr. LP(blocked), my mind freezes and I forget where MK is. When I have opportunities to punish guys for pushing buttons with EX tatsu, I accidentally jump back or do cr./st. HK instead. I still have trouble dashing and teching because I can't seem to press LK/LP together half the time.

I just wanted to smash this thing and then punch holes in my wall just to let out the frustration. My goodness I must be one of the few poor Asians borned without a fighting game gene or something. The toughest thing about all this is that if I want to overcome this, I have to do it on my own. No teacher for this young grass hopper unfortunately :(

But I see the potential in it so I'm going to keep trucking. But fuck this, I'm not going to use it at my first tourney. I'll stick with the pad until i figure this shit out.

Rice-Eater said:

Drop the pad and use ONLY the stick if you really want to lean. Don't blame the stick for your lack of effort, man! When SSFIV comes out, NEVER use the pad. Suck it up and become a stick player.

Did my post make it sound like I'm not trying or something? I've been practicing almost every day 1-2 hours(or more) for the past 3 weeks. I bust out the pad sometimes just to see if I can still do certain things but I've been using stick almost exclusively since then. I've spent so many hours just repeating things like fireball motions, combos, situational crap, random/player matches, and it just doesn't seem to stick. I'm not saying I want to give up, it's just frustration I wanted to get out thus why I said "vent".

As for me blaming the stick? Did you read my post, I'm not blaming the stick, I'm blaming my genes. Which really means I'm pissed at myself for not being able to pick it up faster. I'm probably going with a pad for my first tourney because I want to use what gives me the best chance to win, not because I'm giving up on the stick. I'm going to keep pouring hours upon hours into it until I "get it", but until then I just want to know that I did the best I could. I can't do that with a controller that I still have so much trouble with.

EDIT: You know what, I apologize for even mentioning it. I'm angry for being such a slow learner and just wanted to express that at something else besides my wall. But this was not needed. This is a nice thread that we have going here, so hopefully my post will be ignored so that everybody can get back to the business of talking about buying and modding there sticks.

Hey, man I wasn't trying to talk down to you or anything, just give you some tough love. I apologize if you took offense, that honestly wasn't intended.

It took me months of playing SFIV 4-5 hours a night to get comfortable with the stick, and now it's like an old friend. I'm itching to break it out again, haven't played any fighting games in a while and SSFIV is out soon and I can barely contain my excitement.

You gotta be committed to get the feel of the stick. Hell, maybe you don't even have the right stick for your hands. Have you ever tried other sicks than the one you have?

EDIT: Oh, and I plugged my TE stick into my OG 3.30 PS3 and tried to use it in a PS2 game, no dice. Oh well.

Alright! Been meaning to post this. Finished it earlier this year actually. But for you vocaloid fans and alike. The final version of my Miku Fight Stick TE mod! Painted the bezel/buttons, got plexi/etching, and a black meshball.

Not the best pics but it gets the idea across.

Plexi and art from Arts Innovations. They rock! Sanwa buttons from Akihabarashop. Used Krylon fusion for the spraypaint.

Finally ordered a Tournament Edition stick on the cheap. My first stick since I borrowed my friend's arcade stick in the Street Fighter II days.

HYPE, and ready for weeks of frustration before I get comfortable.

it looks like the art isn't perfectly aligned with the buttons

Actually there's more than that D: It seems like every attempt I do at modding something goes wrong. But considering the effort and money spent to this point, I'm content with it. Some day I'll get it reprinted and more... Can't say how much I love my baby though.

Now that's a nice TE mod - excellent job with the color coordination. Shame about the button holes on the art, but overall it looks great.

Every time I see a meshball, the temptation to order a bunch grows stronger... but I've already spent so much money on sticks, dammit. :lol

Just finished putting Sanwa buttons in my SE stick a few hours ago as a birthday present to myself, and I think it came out pretty nice. I really notice the difference. And I only broke one button in the process. ^_^
Crappy webcam pic to boot!

Pro tip.

When printing art out, don't print blank areas for where the buttons are supposed to be. Just let the art bleed through the area where the button holes are.

TE Stick doesn't work with PS2 games on 3.30. Just tried SF Anniv.
I'm trying to figured out why out of all people Toodles could make his boards BC, but the big companies can't....There's something going on. I want to hear a explanation on this one. Did Madcatz or HORI ever thought of releasing a patch via the PSN Store? Similar to the way SONY did the PS2 BC update back in 2006.

Finished the custom art on my SE stick. Inside, its got the good ol' MC Chtulu and I made wii and ps2 cables. I love the feel of it, now. I even indulged myself with that sweet sweet mesh ball.
Now all I need to do is finish the art for my TE, and I'll have all 3 of my babies personlized.

Soul Calibur 4 Hori sticks are BC. Since I have 10 PS2 fighting games, it comes in handy. Wish the TE sticks worked :|

When can I buy this in the US?
That hasn't been announced for a US release, if I'm not mistaken.
Besides, it's practically a reskinned Fighting Stick EX2. Not worth it IMO.

Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 and all variants (SE/SA), Hori Fighting Stick 3 (and SCIV variant), Sega Virtua Stick High Grade, and now Hori Real Arcade Pro V3-SA (and presumably the Blazblue skinned one) are BC-capable, but their compatibility were all a result of a firmware upgrades. they weren't BC out of the box.

TE compatibility would have to be deployed through a similar update, so I guess if you want it you should bug Sony.

Wow, I just noticed the SE stick is down to $45 on Amazon. Would it be worth it to pick it up and mod it later? I'm completely an entry-level fighting game enthusiast, I don't own a stick at all, and the only game I have is SFIV, but I'll probably grab SSFIV.

more stuff

Thanks, and sorry harsh response, again that was more frustration. And it's actually good to know that that I'm not the only one who may need several months of hard work just to get comfortable let alone having good execution under pressure. Thanks for the advice, I have a SSF4 TE stick and I like the way it feels. It's just going to take some time and I'm fully committed to making that stick do my bidding some day.

What's the more preferred stick, the MvC stick or the Round 2? Or are they basically the same thing? Thinking of puttiing my EB credit to good use.
