My tip would be to just keep doing it until you feel used to it. lol Took me years, actually, but now I can do everything I need to on it.
Your nib might also be changeable to a felt-tipped or other textures one to give a more "pencil" feel. But really, if it's just about how "weird" it is to be drawing there and looking up here, then it just takes practice (though honestly, programs like Paint Tool SAI or Corel Painter feel much more natural stroke-wise to me than any other art software I've tried).
And depending on how you position you hand regularly when drawing, this might help:

It keeps your hand from sticking to the surface due to sweat, and therefore can help you make bigger strokes. I definitely needed the 2 finger one because both my pinky side of my hand and and part of my ring finger lay against the surface, causing sticky strokes.
