Sign up thread for all those interested in playing in a Gaf fantasy hockey league this upcoming season. There will be multiple leagues based on how many people are interested. If you want in, post here and state your relative fantasy experience (in years, so if none, then zero years) so that we can group people together. Also use thread to discuss how we want the league set up/rules/ect. More info in this space as it comes.

I'm in. I've played for a few years. I've won in leagues before, but I came in dead last this past year so I can't really say much for my "skills" right now.

EDIT: Been doing leagues for like 6 years, but I've skipped at least two seasons so 3 or 4 years.

Updated OP, list # of years of fantasy experience you have. That way maybe we could have a beginners league and an advanced or whatever.

In just to see the hilarious auto draft picks and no goalie signings!

I have done the gaf league for the past 2 yrs now.

Thought just ocurred to me: Can we keep Manics' alts in separate leagues?
Yes one league will specifically for Manics alts

I'm also going to suggest that the two divisions be named the Manics and Tabris divisions

EDIT: Misinterpreted OP. I actually have my own fantasy league, so I'd be interested in participating in one. 1 year experience as a league manager I guess.

I have little fantasy hockey experience, but I'd much rather be in the advanced group (Manics Division). What disadvantages do you think inexperienced people would have?

Definitely in! I was hoping a thread would pop up as I was far too lazy to try to start something myself.

EDIT: and 0 years.

People who are less experienced and don't know the ins and outs of fantasy hockey might not want to be thrown into the deep end on their first/second shot out of the gate. A guy like me does a fair amount of research and am very particular about how/who I pick. A newer person might just want to autodraft or pick there favorites. This is just an assumption here. In my main league right now, I know that if our group now played that one from 3 years ago, the one from 3 years ago would get slaughtered. I guess what I'm saying is I don't want people to get discouraged and then stop paying attention/not caring leading to easy wins for one team everytime they play the other.

I could be off, and like you said, if you or anybody would prefer to be in the more advanced group if we choose to do it this way that's fine too.

I think Socreges was making a sarcastic comment about Manics...
Actually it was a sincere question (with a great answer - thank you). I was just joking about the Manics div necessarily being the advanced one.

And I think I'd do well in an advanced group. I've done one season of fantasy hockey before IIRC (that included trades) and have done friendly pools with friends that required research. So I'd still like to be slotted in there if that works out for everyone.

So anyways, what are you guys thinking for stats?

I'm thinking:
Goals, Assists, +/-, PIMs, Shots on Goal, Faceoff Wins for skater stats and Wins, Save % and Goals Against Average for goalie stats

Anything to Add? Take off?

I'm a fan of hits to make more all around players more valuable. Other than that it looks good.

EDIT: And special teams stats are probably worth discussion. PPP can be worth it. That list looks fine though if people don't want to change it.

Right, two goodens - I'll add them. What about blocked shots?

Another one I like and we have in my league full of flyers fans. The problem you run into is devaluing goalies. Our league makes Scott Hartnell a top 20 player with hits, PIMS, blocked shots, and PPP. He was one of my best players last year. Stats like those really change the outlook of a league to look more like real hockey. They might be good since we have so many people because they make worse players more valuable.

I'm in. Been doing pools on and off since about 2004. Don't THINK I've ever been in a GAF pool... but I could be wrong... there's one year of my life that was a drunken haze...

Ok we are currently at 26 people. I'm thinking we should probably cap this at 28, 2 leagues of 14 teams. Otherwise we'll have to get at least 10 more to have a third league haha.

So we do 3. At this rate shouldn't be a problem getting to enough people for 3. For reference I went back and checked, here's the list of categories we used in my last league and everyone was pretty happy:

Goals (G), Assists (A), Plus/Minus (+/-), Penalty Minutes (PIM), Powerplay Points (PPP), Game-Winning Goals (GWG), Shots on Goal (SOG), Hits (HIT), Blocks (BLK),Wins (W), Goals Against Average (GAA), Save Percentage (SV%), Shutouts (SHO)

I would like to join.

This would be my 3rd year with the GAF crew. I have a total of 5 years(going on 6) in Hockey Pools.

Last year's GAF league was based on: G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP,HIT, W, GAA, SV%, SHO

Yeah, I'm sure we can get enough people, but just in case you know?
