strange headache

In order to celebrate this joyous occasion I'd like to gift a month of gold to whoever solves this riddle inspired by the Pythia and explains his reasoning:
I may hurt you,
yet I am necessary.
You can't touch me,
but I lend security.
Some think they possess me,
but they are wrong.
You can bend me,
but I'll remain forever unbroken.
Everybody is trying to grasp me,
but for most I remain elusive.
I am the puzzle with the eternal missing piece.
What am I?
yet I am necessary.
You can't touch me,
but I lend security.
Some think they possess me,
but they are wrong.
You can bend me,
but I'll remain forever unbroken.
Everybody is trying to grasp me,
but for most I remain elusive.
I am the puzzle with the eternal missing piece.
What am I?
