Mr. Jez Corden believes the doomsaying around the Xbox is hyperbolic and premature. He thinks that, as has apparently happened a lot of previous times, all of this will amount to nothing in the long run and Xbox will continue to do fine.

I feel differently. I think that every previous time Xbox "died" it took chip damage that brought it one step closer to the brink, and as things stand now, Xbox is in a precarious position where it may as well not be considered a major platform holder for the purposes of the industry any longer.

What does GAF think? Is Xbox dead?

I hope not and definitely don't think Xbox is going anywhere. MS has so much money that it doesn't matter. I think this is MS finally saying to get your houses in order cause these are the consequences.

Sega is still around and this is a completely different situation.

Yea man, were deadout. The hardware side of things is all but finished, whatever next gen is I think it will come and go and within a couple of yrs they will announce there going software only. The problem then that side of it is a massive fucking mess aswell, lets hope they can sort it but what a mess.

They remind me of WB/DC waiting to see if Superman is received well. A recent string of cancelled movies/games, business adjustments, failed projects, now all the hype and hope is on the next thing (for WB/DC it's Gunn's Superman, for MS/XBox I'm not sure which project it is to wait and see if it ends up successful).

Edit: I can't say if Xbox is dead after today but I will say Rare is dead after today. Nothing will ever be done with Perfect Dark again (I know Rare wasn't making it, but it's a Rare IP). Everwild is cancelled. One of their few staff there that has been with the company since the N64 days left or was fired today, right? I think it's safe to say Rare is dead.

Why would "Xbox" ever die?
We can be upset over lost jobs, however can we really be upset over the titles that were cancelled?
Everything that was revealed has been in development hell, or frankly something that would have came and went on Gamepass.
From a business sense, they saved a lot of money not releasing a bunch of trash.

The amount of "good" prestige single player games are dying and slowly being released.
As a platform holder, you now have found an easy way to charge people and fix the "problem" of some gamers only playing old games.
You can offer publishers pennies on the dollar, and it's all under the guise of hundreds of old prestige titles that wouldn't sell, but people feel good about paying monthly for.

The hardware portion will evolve, cloud gaming and gamers accepting trash graphics (the Switch 1, series s) shows there are people who will gladly pay the least amount of money for an awful experience, just because it's the cheapest.

I'm sorry, Xbox brothers and sisters. I'm never happy seeing something that has contributed positively to gaming dwindle away. It isn't the fans faults that Xbox reached this point. There have been IP and games and certain eras that brought their fans happiness.

As a console. Yes. Dead. I do not believe they will ever see significant growth in the console market again. Console = traditional and the new convenient definition. Am I still interested in seeing what their new "consoles" are going to look like? Yes. Yes I am.

Just for clarity, what is a traditional console? With examples, please

Xbox died when they announced those four games going to PS5. I sold my XSX and XSS the following week. Xbox is never coming back. They are a third party publisher now.

don't play dumb. You know what a traditional console is.
I don't, I am legitimately asking if stuff like the Switch counts since growth can potentially come from that (but if it doesn't count, and you only mean stationary consoles, then I am inclined to agree with you)

You shouldn't assume the worst, lol

Another week, another post about this same garbage. Until Satya starts to show he losing support for the console and platform it is going nowhere. Microsoft as a whole prints money and they aren't going anywhere.

Based on this definition, is EGS alive?

Yes

Its downfall started slowly in the second half of the 360, then the Xone and finally the series X and all the GaaS crap. Today is just the beginning of the official death. The will pretend nothing is wrong and that they are actually "looking strong", until someone else jumps into the console market, wipes out the last remnants of Xbox.

But when a console is a 3rd party collab like that Asus ROG what's the point really?!
I honestly don't see a reason to continue with console gaming.

Does Epic have a console active in the competing space? Then this comment is irrelevant.
Epic has a competing storefront in the PC storefront space, and remains committed to it to the tune of spending hundreds of dollars on it every year.

Is EGS alive right now?

Don't deflect the question, either answer or accept your initial comment was stupid.
