1. The Last Guardian: Shadow of the Colossus is my favorite game of all time. I think it is just a truly special experience. I dont know how good this game will be but I feel a bit relieved that the delay was due to over ambition and moving the project over to PS4 and not turmoil within Team Ico. Hopefully it can live up to the expectations and I will finally get a chance to play Team Icos third (and maybe final?) game.
2. Uncharted 4- A Thiefs End: At this point Im really just living one Naughty Dog game to the next. In my opinion they are the best game developer out there right now and last generation my 3 favorite games were from them (Uncharted 2/3 and TLOU) and their fourth game (Drakes Fortune) was also very good. I have no doubt this game will be amazing and in contention for 2016s GOTY, the question really is where it will rank all time in the series history.
3. No Mans Sky: I feel like this is a Star Trek the game, in the truest of meanings. To boldly go where no one has gone before. I really just want to be an explorer, I dont expect the gameplay to necessarily be anything special, solid but nothing ground breaking. If they can really nail that sense of discovery and exploration on a galactic scale like they are going for then it will be a truly special and unique experience.
4. Horizon Zero Dawn: I really respect Guerrilla, they make great engines and I thoroughly enjoyed Killzone 2, which was one of my favorite FPS last generation. However their games have been a bit hit or miss outside of Killzone 2, so Im really glad they are moving on to something different and really getting creative with their wonderful technical expertise that they already possess. Plus their demo was one of the best E3 demos I have seen in a while.
5. Persona 5: I had never played a Persona game until Persona 4 Golden on Vita and it was amazing, so Im really looking forward to their next home console sequel to this franchise. I always love a good JRPG and it seem like we are seeing a resurgence the last few years and going forward and this one is probably the most exciting example.
6. Mass Effect- Andromeda: I wasnt a huge fan of the combat in Dragon Age Inquisition, it just wasnt fun enough to be a great action RPG or deep enough to be a great SRPG in my opinion, that being said I loved the world and the relationship building in Inquisition and since I already know I love the combat in the Mass Effect games Dragon Age made me really excited for the next game in the Mass Effect series.
7. Ratchet and Clank: Whenever Insomniac doesnt try to mess around with the formula too much, Ratchet and Clank is still an amazing series and just pure childlike fun. Into the Nexus was a good start in getting back to the winning formula of games like Up Your Arsenal and A Crack in Time but the next traditional entry into the Ratchet and Clank saga is exciting and I recently got the platinum in the original game on PS3 so Im excited to see what they changed and added to bring the original story into the current generation of games.
8. Gravity Rush 2: The first Gravity Rush was a true gem in Vitas catalog and Im really excited to play the HD version of that later this year but a true sequel is even better and we are getting both next year. I love the open world and it feels like a super hero game with an awesome protagonist and one of the more unique powers you can have. Also the art style is gorgeous and looking even better on PS4.
9. Mirrors Edge- Catalyst: The first game had so much promise and was a very fun and unique game but Ive been waiting a long time for a sequel that really reached the heights that I originally hoped for. Im really surprised we are even getting a sequel since the first didnt really sell enough to warrant it but Ive liked everything that I have seen so far and hopefully it delivers on all that promise.
10. Firewatch: I had a lot of trouble deciding what the last game on this list would be. Tomorrow Children? Cosmic Star Heroine? I almost put The Witness on the list but it has been so long my excitement has tapered off, though Im still looking forward to it. Going into E3 I didnt really know much about Firewatch but after it was announced for PS4 I started to research it a bit and watch a few gameplay videos. I love the dialogue in the game and how you can make decisions about what to say, or what not to say, on the fly as you are playing the game and exploring. There also seems to be some sort of mystery or possibly a darker side to the game then just being a fire lookout named Henry. Im interested and I love the art style, and it seems to have a little more game to it than some other walking simulators, with a semi-open world and items to collect which grant benefits, like maps with marked locations, ropes and a flashlight. Though as long as it tells a good story like Gone Home or Everybodys Gone to the Rapture, I think it will all work out for this game.
Note: I really wanted to put Ni No Kuni 2 and Wild on this list but neither is confirmed for 2016, though Wild is on Game Informers 2016 release schedule and I do really think that Ni No Kuni 2 will come out in 2016. But I wanted to stick to the rules as close as I could, but it is worth mentioning that those 2 would actually complete my most anticipated games of 2016 list.
