Your most anticipated games of all time?

What time is it?
MGS2 and Halo 2 and it's why I don't hype games anymore. I respect MGS2's narrative but Big Shell and the bosses are a bore. I also respect Halo 2's multi-player but the single player campaign was a massive disappointment. Fighting Brutes has always sucked.

Halo 3.

This is the last game that lived up to the hype. And as a grown up man with a job and responsibilities, I took the day off on launch to play it. And it was fucking awesome.

Splinter Cell Spies vs Mercs.

One of the rare instances where my anticipation wasn't met with disappointment.
Great mode, but was there really that much hype around it before hand?

For me, GTAIV, total let down. They took the fun out of GTA. The expansions corrected this somewhat.

Perfect Dark. Spiritual successor to Goldeneye? Sign me the fuck up. Almost did live upto the hype, not quite as good as Goldeneye, but still great.

Mario kart64. Off the back of super Mario Kart, what a let down.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
Mine was definitely Smash Bros Brawl. Who else remembers JAPAN TIME with the daily Smash Dojo reveals?

Halo 2 was amazing too with I Love Bees.

MGSV is the only game I've woken up at 5am to play the moment it unlocked. For a solid week I barely left my room.

Apart from that, Red Dead Redemption 2. My deluxe edition got lost in the post, it was an excruciating few days not being able to play it.

Metal Gear Solid.

I quit high school freshman soccer tryouts for this game. I would've been in my retirement phase as a professional at this point, winning the World Cup and several Champions League trophies. Do the math.

Thanks, Kojoma.

Rygar - The Legendary Adventure on PS2. The wait was excruciating for me. I had hyped it up something fierce, checking with the Gamestop employees weekly to see if there were any updates. The day finally arrived 6 months after first hearing about it, and I went to Gamestop to pick up my copy.

No kidding, one of the guys working at the counter told the other, "Give the man his Rygar." The game itself was... a bit, well, disappointing. It was fun overall, but the story was stupid and it was way too short at 6 hours.

Easily Final Fantasy XII. FFX had become my favorite game ever (story-driven game, anyway) and everything about FFXII sounded so good, like a Final Fantasy x Star Wars crossover, back when both things were still cool. It felt like a dream come true, fed by the snippets of lore that we were getting about all these races and nations at war. The Bangaas, Dalmasca, Rabanastre, Arcadia, the Vieras...

Needless to say, it all didn't quite meet my expectations. It started off great, but it quickly lost steam as time went by, and I didn't even finish the game the first time around, only doing so when I gave it another go a couple years later. But I still remember fondly how hyped I was for it, and the title of one particular review that called it "an unfinished masterpiece", which I guess was pretty accurate.

There was a 6 page Spies vs Mercs feature in one of those popular gaming magazines. By the time Pandora Tomorrow released, you could not open to that feature there was so much spooge in it from me. Hardened like a rock.

I had one: Diablo 3. Waited 10 years. Even bought Collector's Edition from US Amazon.

And the game was so bad, I learned my lesson that never again hyped for a game. When D4 news came not even a single hair on my body reacted. It was released and still no emotion from me. They killed and buried the big Diablo fan inside of me.

"Hype" means %95 to %100 disappoinment in the end. No need to get more disappointment in my life. Daily and work life are enough themselves.

At quick glance a few titles come to mind for me: Shenmue 2, Majora's Mask, Tears of the Kingdom, Fallout: New Vegas and 4. Perhaps my most anticipated game of all has been Silk Song, because we've waited so long now and it was so amazing.

Almost every Zelda Game - especially the wait for Twilight Princess on Wii killed me

From Software Games - the wait for Dark Souls 1 release was unbearable back in 2011

Metal Gear Solid - Seeing MGS3 in magazines hyped me up

Some time after those I became an old fart not that excited about games sadly :) And some time after that Elden Ring showed me that I still care so I was excited about Shadow of the Erdtree.

- FF9 reading on the magazine, I really want to see it in my TV back then, probably my first taste of hype
- FF X the artworks and the screenshot in the magazine led me to believe this is one of the best game, while it is not for some reason, ended like it.
- FF12 almost the same with two above
- DMC4 the action looks dope when i see the video back then
- Halo 3 what else to say
- ME 2 dang the graphic capture me back then
- Xenoblade 1 even its too late, i play it on DE, and ended my favorite JRPG in decades
- BoTW the concept capture me a lot
- ToTK the sequel and continuation is my favorite game
- MHGU yeah what else to say, while i play since the first, I love MH since 3rd
- MH Rise while i like world, the fandom are too toxic, and Rise is quite steril with toxic since we cant talk directly and the game is ended portable, my sole reason
- Metroid Dread what else to say, i waited it for so long and of course one of the best game i love
- Xenoblade 3 continuation from the sequel which at first I dont like, but ended love all three
- Dragons Dogma 2 I adore the first, and of course the second is also my favorite rpg as well, if not better than 1
- Yakuza Like a Dragon, the concept of turn based rpg without anime looks, semi realistic artstyle, is my long dreamed game
- FF16 the artstyle and thee gameplay capture me

there should be more, but I dont find typing so much in the morning is good for me : ))

Metal Gear Solid 2 - First game I ever bought on launch day. Worked next to EB Games and smoked cigarettes with one of their guys. He hooked me up with the Zone of Enders demo disc. I was genuinely unspoiled. Was not on the internet whatsoever at the time. Just kinda getting back into gaming. MGS was one of the very few PSX non sports or racing games I played in high school and that demo really showed how far ahead Kojima was at the time for third person action.

Halo 2 <-- my only midnight launch. Steelbook ofc.

Hard to think of any that matched these. I didn't have the ability to be hyped for game launches as a kid because my ass was waiting until Christmas at best. I did convince my GF in high school to buy me a Dreamcast. That was pretty sweet. These games I was like 19-21 and bought my own PS2 and Xbox.

Oh boy...memories...the good old days of gaming.

Story time- My top 5 in no order:

1.Uncharted 2 Among Thieves
After that incredible E3 demo I was literally counting the days till release, playing the beta made the wait even more painful and yet, somehow through sheer luck I got the game 2 weeks early... The day I actually saw it on the shelves in person at the store 2 weeks early after only seeing a post about it being available early...I can honestly say it's one of my top 3 happiest moments of my life.

2. God of War 3
At the time of its release God of War 2 was in my top 3 games of all time and seeing that first CG trailer of God of War 3 along with MGS4 being exclusive pushed me to get a PS3 in 2008 and to this day it's still my favourite console.

The 2nd ingame trailer was even more hype inducing showcasing the insane scale. I ended up being so hyped for this thing that by the time I got it in my hands I spoiled the entire bossfight list and chunks of the game by just not being able to stay away from news and leaks about this game. Ended up even getting it 1 day early too but having spoiled big chunks of the game I sadly wasn't as hyped as I was when I first booted up Uncharted 2,Bloodborne or MGS4 even though I still played it in 1 sitting.

3. MGS4
Before 2008 and moving in to a new house, the only way I got my gaming news was from trailers I'd get from the dvds included with game magazines. That's how I knew about Demon's Souls,Yakuza 3 and other niche stuff you wouldn't even know to look up back then, but having just 1 magazine each month I checked out every last one of the trailers included on it. And in those same trailers only 1 game had like an 7 min trailer and it was MGS4,back then I wasn't very versed in console gaming,I had consoles like PS2 and PSP but I was mainly a PC gamer and outside of a few games,my young mind was too unneducated to even know of MGS as a franchise despite it being one of the biggest IPs in gaming but after that trailer I knew I had to play that game no matter what,it had features like octocamo, rolling on the ground in multiple ways, hiding in closets, smoking and conceiling yourself by grabbing a statue's balls? (wait what?) yes those are the things that absolutely floored me seeing as a PC gamer in 2006-2007. It genuinely looked next gen and when I played it,despite the huge amount of cutscene to gameplay ratio,at the time it became my favourite game of all time.

It kept me waiting but after finally playing it,the story, the mechanics, the music it was all worth it and turned me into a huge MGS fanboy.

4.Killzone 2
While I wouldn't call it necessarily one of my most anticipated as I had alot of skepticism before launch it's one of the most important games in Playstation history for me.

At the time outside of a trailer with insane graphics and some pictures in the gaming magazine I was subbed to I didn't have much to go on,and then I went online on forums like Gametrailers and I remember everyone before release was skeptical of the game actually looking that good...then the demo dropped and it was the talk of everyone. It was insane, guns had real weight to them, the graphics were the best I had seen at that point, enemies had and still do to this day some of the greatest animations for getting shot in any game.

The campaign was short but exhilirating with great setpieces, sound design and engaging characters and the multiplayer was the first time a game engaged me for hours upon hours. I loved it so much I bought the extra map packs dlcs they had at the time.

Killzone 2 is an unforgetable experience for me,still ranks in my top 5 games of all time to this day and it marked the begining of the golden age of the PS3 era since its release in february that year as afterwards throughout the next couple of years it was nothing but bangers from Sony and its external partners.

In the end It WAS the Halo killer in my eyes.

5. Bloodborne
All I have to say about my excitement for BB is simple: Everyone on GAF at the time must remember that ProjectBeast thread on GAF, it's probably the most hyped game thread I've been in(as a lurker at the time) but nothing compares to it,the theories of it being Demon's Souls 2,the leaks, the gifs. It was absolutely magical and upon release so was the game. Bloodborne to this day is my favourite game of all time, slightly edging Elden Ring and whilst the game is there based on its own merits I attribute part of my feelings toward the game to the excitement I felt in that thread and the good time everyone made of it.

Honorable mentions: Devil May Cry 4,Gears of War 2,Uncharted 3 and 4,Infamous 2,Little Big Planet 2,Dead Space 2,Witcher 3,God of War 2018,The Last of Us...

I never really anticipated a game but if I had to choose one, Final Fantasy VII. After the grandiose FF6, first Final Fantasy not in a Nintendo console, first CD version, there could hardly be anything more anticipated back in the day.

Mario 3.
Bonk's Adventure.
Mario 64.
Final Fantasy 7.
Final Fantasy 8.
Tekken Tag Tournament.
Unreal Tournament 2003.
The Witcher 3.
Elden Ring.
Silksong.

Honestly pretty close to my all-time top 10.

I played the first Bioshock demo 5-10 times before the game released. The demo was the first part of the game and it had me hooked.

That demo hype was unbelievable... couple that, for me, with it being the first game I played on my very first HDTV. Wow. Making that jump made the playthrough that much more special.

What a great summer/fall/winter for gaming... 2007. Bioshock, COD: MW, Mass Effect, Virtua Fighter 5 was that the same time? And many others I'm surely forgetting.

Bioshock juuuuuust misses out of my top 10 most anticipated... but still way up there. Definitely top 15.

FFVIII - After how good VII was and how much that game pulled me into jrpgs I couldn't wait for VIII and everytime I seen it in a magazine I couldn't stop looking at how good it looked I played the demo when it became available and the wait was agonising, Personally I loved the game I was off school all December 1999 with a bad ankle so I played this non-stop, The music and the setting really grabbed me but I did prefer VII overall even my dumb 15 year old brain knew the story was really iffy.

Shenmue - I got a DC for Xmas in 1999 and from the moment I seen it on the VHS tape and in magazines I couldn't wait to play it, It sounded incredible and when it finally came out December 2000 it was unlike anything I'd ever seen, the graphics and the music incredible and the atmosphere was so immersing, I loved the QTEs and battle system, I was just getting into martial arts at the time so the cool moves made it even more appealing.

Shenmue II - After countless hours playing S1 and reading every little bit of info I could about Shenmue II and the fear it wouldn't release in the UK due to the DCs very unfortunate undeserved death it actually was confirmed it'll be releasing... the wait for this during 2001 was so hard, The more I learned and seen about what this game had to offer over S1 the hype was off the charts, It released a week early at my nearest Game shop it was the longest bus journey home ever, One of the best games ever made.

Shenmue III - Waited 17 years and put around $800 towards that stinking pile of festering Rhinoceros shit, Yu Suzuki clearly forgotten the script and what had already been revealed etc, Ryo was a total pussy when he was becoming a superb martial artist by the end of S2 but in S3 he is a wet wipe, Shit game, Shit everything, series is dead.

FFX - I was excited for this from the first trailer and screenshots, The first next generation FF and it didn't disappoint, The demo was amazing.... that besaid island music and scenery!!! I loved it and put many hours into it.

Many more but I'll just list them without a story!!!
