You're definitely on the right track with your arrangements and I think the Bitcrusher usage (if that's what it is) is definitely effective. My only complaint is how obviously vanilla the EWQLSO Gold Solo Violin is; I know it's difficult to get unique-sounding realistic strings just because of how many different variables there are with organic instruments compared to software instruments, but I would recommend playing around with synths and even additional strings within Symphonic Orchestra to get something a bit more diverse. Even if you stick to one or two custom string presets you eventually make, it'll come across as more distinct than a default option.
Thanks for the detailed impressions! Looking back, I'm not too proud of the entire mix but it's nothing a few adjustments can't fix. I'm learning as I go along and this kind of feedback is extremely helpful as I experiment and expand. Really appreciate it thank you.

Really happy for you man! :D What kind of deal is it? Will your tracks be a part of a compilation or is it a single release or am I way off here? I'll pimp your tracks out on my twitter once they've officially come out.

Thanks buddy :D

My first two released tracks will both be part of a sampler, a small compilation of tracks by different artists.

Haha, nope. DJ'ing isn't really where my talents are at.

But by the way, why is this thread almost dead? Has everyone here learned all the tricks of the trade? No more questions? Come on GAF! :D

Yeah this place has been pretty quiet lately. I've been busy preparing to play live shows and I recently purchased a bunch of stuff (8Dio Bassterd, Hybrid Tools Vol. 2, Taiko) and it's reigniting my passion for orchestral works. Wrote this little piece just a few minutes ago:

War Cry (TEST)

Are you looking into doing this full-time? You have to do some shows man! There's no exposure like playing live.

Yeah, I know man :) DJ"ing is essential I know.

Listened to War Cry. Reminds me of Terminator 2 theme for some reason. Like the stutter effect in the beginning. I hope someday everything will fall together for you, and you will be signed as well. Keep it up and don't give up!

Cheers man! I've given up hope on Saudi being a place where I could actually promote my work so I'm just going to keep writing and hope everything falls into place.

Does your sampler deal include future collaborations with the labels?

Well, when I finish a new tune, I will send it to them.

Also got a mail in November from Progressive House Worldwide, saying they liked my music and that they wanted to work with me in the future. Haven't got any releases there yet. I was also in for remix duties. So that's also very nice!

And yes, keep making music!!

Anyone try this browser DAW? Looks kinda cool: AudioSauna

You've got the most challenging part out of the way which is getting your foot in the door. The rest should be a cakewalk as long as you keep writing catchy tunes. Best of luck!

Thanks so very much buddy :D

Yeah, it's so weird man. Can't believe it. Also: people putting your stuff up on YouTube, and seeing the positive comments. Really great. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFOI342WEzA)

Thanks for your support ;)

Edit: why are we still not friends on FB??

Absolutely man. It's a lovely feeling! As for facebook, it never came up. :p Add me here.

Where the hell are Fusebox, Teknopathetic and the rest of the gang? This place has been too quiet.

Yeah. I PM'ed Tekno this afternoon. This thread has to keep on living! :)

Thanks for the support on Twitter and FB by the way.

Don't mention it man. You deserve it and it's the least I could do for the support and help you've been offering me.

Fusebox better come back here with some new tunes. It's been a while since he's posted something on his soundcloud.

Hey, did you ever get this put together? I'm still working on mine. Kilpatrick is working on a new case that I might end up using if my Miniflight Jr doesn't show up in time. I was going to go with Monorocket until the guy went 9 months without delivery and total radio silence when asked.

Here's what I've got so far, pending the arrival of a few parts (module makers are so slow):

uuH7Y.jpg

Nothing super exotic yet, save for the Phonogene. Will definitely add the new Maths once it comes out.

Looks good man, Macbeth MicroMac, mmmm yum.

Yeah I ended up putting mine together, it sounds wicked but tbh it hasn't fitted my workflow as well as I had hoped it would and I'm currently considering selling it:

I'm thinking of putting the cash toward the new Moog Sub-Phatty when it comes out later this year:

moog-sub-phatty-synthesizer.jpeg

And I totally need to get off my ass and put some new tunes up! In fact it was probably around the time I finished the modular that my production output dropped right off, it just doesn't really lend itself to spontaneous production.

Nice work getting on that sampler Tr4nce! And the Facebook idea sounds good, I'll PM you guys my Facebook page link.

There's always something there that was worth it even if you've learned more since then.
Yeah, I agree - it's hard for me to have perspective on that sometimes.

And something similar happens when I'm working on a song for a long time and a section seems to lose its impact after a while. I'd really love the ability to hear it with fresh ears again.

I've struggled with this as well. Sometimes you get so stuck, it's no fun any longer to be working on that certain track. But that is normal. Leave the project alone for a bit, or change your workflow. Or start working on something else. Don't obligate yourself to stick to one project at a time :)

I thought there might be a thread like this here.

New member here, wanted to say hi to all the producers. I've been struggling to produce for a few years now. Currently mostly doing breaks, but want to eventually do more trance, progressive house, and liquid drum and bass.

All info about me as an artist can be found here: http://soundcloud.com/yanixmusic

I just had a remix come out last Thursday, and some new stuff should be posted soon. Will be watching this thread. Oh, and if curious, you can see a few video tours of my project files here: http://www.youtube.com/user/noizyhorn?feature=watch

Your username made me expect for some Trance so i got disappointed, not my kind of stuff, but excellent work man, great productions.

I'm working on something trancy, very early work btw.

I keep starting new projects and never finish one, i have to commit mysel on finishing one...

Yeah man, I was and still am to some degree the same way. I've been listening to amazing artists from all areas in dance music for years...people who not only make great compositions from a musical standpoint, but who are also fantastic engineers and have incredible mixdown skills. So before I even started making music, I understood what makes a great track sound great. Sadly, that meant every single thing I did in the studio sounded like absolute garbage to me and so I would never end up finishing tracks. It's taken me years to even get this far and I'm nowhere near where I want to be. You just gotta keep pushing through and keep trying to finish things, even when you get discouraged. You would be amazed at how much you learn and how many new tricks you pick up just simply by working on (and finishing) tracks, even if they don't sound great. It's all about practice, practice, practice. And when you're about to slam your head into the wall in frustration.....practice again.

Thanks for checking out some of those tunes, btw :)

All the good shit happens while I'm banned.

How sick was NAMM 2013?

Sub Phatty looks sick, the Korg MS-20 Mini re-issue looks sick, the new Dave Smith Prophet 12 looks sick and I want one of those new Eventide H9 pedals too!!

If I were a hardware synth nerd, i'd rejoice with you Fuse, but alas my meddling and indescribably lazy allegiance to software synths prevents that.

Anyone ever use OZone 5 for mastering? I just tried it out for this new single I wrote and it really blew my mind what a difference it's made to my work. Crazy stuff.

Click here to check out the new single: New Heights (Old Dreams)

I've heard awesome things about Ozone 5. Was it difficult to use?

In other news I finally replaced my coffee table setup with an actual desk! Someone around the corner was selling this L shaped modular desk for only $40, and they even dropped it off for me too. It feels like a proper little production area now!

I've left a few synths out as they weren't good for my workflow. The modular beast, Korg Miditribe, Meeblip SE and the Moogerfooger CP-251 are all in storage for now.

Sweet setup.

Ozone 5 isn't too difficult to use - maybe the UI makes it looks more intimidating that it really is, because it's really powerful and full of options. Sounds really good though. I've also used T-Racks for a long time and probably prefer Ozone over it.

Pretty highly educated with mixing and mastering, pro tools specifically. Hopefully I'll be able to share the knowledge and perhaps learn a few things.

Got 8dio's Steel String Strummer since i'm a leftie with no access to acoustic or classic guitars. It's a pretty powerful VST. Recorded this little piece in a matter of minutes.

8dio Steel String Test

Guitar: 8dio Steel String Strummer
Drums: Native Instruments Studio Drummer
Piano Synth: reFX Nexus 2 'Total Piano'

Awesome setup. How often do you record guitar? I've never heard you play! And Ozone 5 is not hard to use at all. I highly recommend it.

I play often, I record rarely. Here's a couple of my old guitar tracks:

https://soundcloud.com/kaarma/down-an-up

https://soundcloud.com/kaarma/ear-candy

Now that my rack is close enough to my mic to keep it connected all the time I'll probably start doing more guitar based stuff and now that you've started the riff thread I'm gonna have to put something together for it!

Here's a new electronic tune I started a couple of days ago while I was on leave from work. DX7, Blofeld, Shruthi, Minitaur and Tetra all doing their thang in here:

Wow man you're amazing. So many feels during down an up. Love the bass line in Ear Candy. You should definitely do more guitar songs.

Great build up in this. A bit more reverb on some of the channels would make it pop more I think. Love the part starting at 3:07. One complaint is that your drums (snare especially) need more oomph! What samples do you use?

Well, i started a Megaman Dr. Wily Stage 1 rmx and i like a lot how it's getting

Nice job! The backing lead synth is a little thin though. Boost the low-end and it should sound even better.
