NeoGAF's Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2015

Here's quotes for 11-20:

11. SPLATOON

What GAF said:

After seeing this game in motion and reading about the mechanics I think this game could become the new multiplayer hotness. Just looks so fun and screams originality. Even from what little we know, theory crafting on covering the maps has been making me ache to play it. Such a cool concept and something that I would have never thought to ask for.

Number one in my heart, Splatoon is a symbol of what I want more games to move towards: design first, pure fun, brilliant mechanics that just make sense.

Ever since playing it at e3, I can't get it out of my head. It has the same appeal that team fortress 2 does for me, where i don't necessarily need to be killing people to help get ahead. You can win by being sneaky and devious instead of locking in with the enemy in some sort of grudge match. I have no idea how the single player campaign will play though, which is my biggest concern, but I'm hoping that's cool too.

This is my most hyped Nintendo title of the year. Please deliver what I'm expecting. Charming, addictive shooting gameplay with some unique devices.

12. RIME

What GAF said:

Visually stunning and reminds me a lot of ICO on the PS2. Who cannot be wetting themselves at the thought of an open-world puzzle/adventure game that looks this damn good.

Ico vibes make this one of the more interesting and beautiful games on the list.

It just looks gorgeous and everything the developer says I've been on board with. It looks like Team Ico meets Nintendo with a reduction in combat, 'expression in traversal' and a beautiful world.

The art direction, the animation, the style of the game focusing on exploration and puzzle solving. Will be a game I can sit back and enjoy with my entire family around.

13. HALO 5: GUARDIANS

What GAF said:

I'm a huge halo fan and have been feeling that halo itch to play a brand new one. Halo 4 was the breath of fresh air the series needed with only a few major problems with its competitive multiplayer. Halo 5 looks to be taking itself seriously as a competitive shooter and is evolving halo where Ive always wanted it to go with added mobility. We may just have another Halo 2 on our hands yet.

I love Halo. Halo 4 was a bit of a let down but I have my fingers crossed this will be a return to form. The beta footage whilst quite different does actually look really fun, and if Halo 4's graphics were achievable on X360, I can't wait to see what a next gen campaign looks like. Blow me away 343!

only game series I get excited for.

Halo is still my favorite multiplayer FPS franchise (even after Halo 4). Unless the game is broken out of the gate I think it would be difficult for this to be a disappointment to me.

14. STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT

What GAF said:

Next gen Battlefield in the Star Wars universe... sign me up.

Battlefield has been my multiplayer jam for the past decade or so. This means two things, I'm totally into the core formula of Battlefield, and I've been playing these games for the past decade or so. I see DICE handling Battlefront as an opportunity to change things up yet remain the same. Also I think Star Wars is alright. That said, they haven't even shown a CG trailer for this game yet. Certain risk of it ending up like Hardline, feeling like an expansion.

Honestly, Star Wars hype is kind of in overdrive for me either way. Combined with the fond childhood memories I have of the second one, it's a perfect storm of hype. If the online is steady this can suck me in for a long time. This is also the game on my list that I'm most doubtful of making 2015.

I prefer COD to post-3 Battlefield, but even so I think DICE were the perfect people to handle this game. The style will be different certainly, but I believe. There is too much on stake for them to fuck this up, and the Frostbite engine combined with Original Trilogy settings has so much potential for greatness in visual terms, as long as they don't have their destruction boner still. If I wasn't sure that I will need to pay £40 extra to experience this game properly it'd probably be higher.

15. FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD

What GAF said:

Having never played the original release, I'm pretty happy they are remastering this game and releasing it on the new systems. I have heard pretty good things (and some mixed reactions, too), so I hope it's fun.

The dark days of the 13 saga are behind us. I hope this sells well enough to send SE a message. This series was once the reason I played games. These days it's hard to take seriously. Though like any battered FF fan Type-0 is high on my list.

Finally an official translation and on the PS4. Can't wait to play what is arguably the best FF game in the last generation.

: It's a relatively major FF I haven't played yet, that's really all the reason I need. Seems divisive but I'll probably end up liking it.

16. THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: MAJORA'S MASK 3D

What GAF said:

Thank you Nintendo. Thank you so much.

This'll be the game that'll make me buy a 3DS. I never had the chance to play it on N64 so I am incredibly excited.

Confession time: When I originally played Majora's Mask as a kid, I hated it. The 3 day system was just too much for my poor, younger self. But I'm really excited to give the game another chance, with fancy updated graphics and with the added convenience of Sleep Mode.

It's an upgraded version of one my favourite Zelda games.
Gameplay that builds on OoT's concepts, Interesting time mechanic, fantastic sidequests and a darker theme than most Zelda games.
What's not to like?

17. STAR FOX (WII U)

What GAF said:

I shouldn't really be mentioning it when we've seen so little, but it's Star Fox. After waiting almost a decade for a true blue Star Fox game to arrive I'm excited that Miyamoto is finally bringing it back to the limelight for some good old space combat. And if the purported episodic format can maintain a scale and replayability comparable to the likes of Star Fox 64, they might just be onto a winning format.

How we have waited for a new Star Fox game, especially one that (hopefully) stays mostly true to Star Fox 64's gameplay! Apart from F-Zero and Kid Icarus (and Metroid, but I'm sure that's coming at some point) there are no Nintendo IP's I wanted to return more than this one, so I'm still elated it's actually coming. Let's hope the game will offer the high speed action, varied settings, humor and charm of the past games while also making it more than an arcade like experience that is over in a few hours. Maybe implementing a few (gamepad centered) controls and mini-games like the ones demoed earlier might help in that regard.

A new Miyamoto created Star Fox for the Wii U! What more do I need to say. I can't wait to try out Miyamoto's new gameplay systems.

I need to buy a Wii U.

18. QUANTUM BREAK

What GAF said:

Been waiting for a new Remedy game since Alan Wake and this one is looking stellar.

Remedy is a more than competent developer, as shown by their past projects, and what I've seen of Quantum Break certianly looks fantastic and has me intrigued. The premise sounds amazing, the graphics are top notch and the time bending mechanics make it seem like this is going to be a very special game.

Oh Sam Lake, you sly devil. Remedy’s work resonates with me in ways that few other studios manage to do, and the new blend of time shifting and gunplay looks so polished. I think this will be Bullet time 2.0, and the idea of bridging a Television series with the game to build narrative could be really neat. I love the time shifting mechanic to dart in and out of combat, and I have high hopes for it!

I freaking LOVE Max Payne 1 and 2, and Alan Wake was one of my favorite games of last gen. This one just looks spectacular, especially in the latest gameplay trailer we got, the platforming sections look great.

19. YAKUZA 5

What GAF said:

I've played and loved every English released Yakuza game and this seems the biggest and craziest of them all.

I love the Yakuza series, they used to be my digital escapades to Japan and i'm so glad this will be finally coming to the west.

Taxi race battles, bear hunting, epic Idol Dance Battles, feels, manliness, kickass beat'em-up action. Being a big fan of the series, I am ecstatic that this game is finally getting its long awaited english release.

Better late than never.

20. PILLARS OF ETERNITY

What GAF said:

Because it is the game I've wanted for over a decade.

The game that put Kickstarter on my radar, and the game I've desperately wanted since finishing BG2 over a decade ago, CRPGs ARE BACK BABY!

Obsidian are probably the best RPG developers in the world, so I'm there for anything with their name on it. This will also serve as a introduction into the cRPG genre for me as well, so much like with one of my reasons for looking forward to getting a Wii U, it'll feel fresh to me even if the concept is over a decade old.

The years have made me a jaded old bastard who doesn't really get hyped for games anymore, but Obsidian RPGs are generally the exception.

BONUS QUOTE

I assume Pillars of Eternity will end up as the highest ranked PC exclusive... somewhere on #20 or so :P

Cannot believe The Order made that top ten list. Legit shocked. Interesting list but a bit generic if I do say so. More diversity and indies pls!

Not one xbox exlusive on the top ten now i question are they doing something wrong?

Look at previous posts. There are more Wii U owners on GAF than XB1 owners. PS4/PC goes without saying. There were two in the top 20. Halo 5 might've been slightly higher if the beta was an earlier date in December (maybe #11), but it released for the majority of individuals on Dec. 29th.

I like how four of the top 10 are the same as last year.

haha that's pretty crazy.

So many 2014 games got delayed into 2015 though it's not too surprising I guess

Anyway...

At one time MGS would have been in my top list but MGS4 and MGS2 told me that Kojima is just as likely to create a shit product as a good one so I gotta be skeptical these days on that coin flip.
It also doesn't surprise me Uncharted 4 is #1, but man I'll never be able to meet GAF's majority's unconditional love for that series. So flawed. Still, the gameplay demo of UC4 excited me in a way no other Uncharted game has, so that's a start.

Wow Splatoon made number 11 cool and Xenoblade CX top ten nice

Zelda is the true number one since its only on one console and had that many votes lol jk

This is wrong on so many levels. Damn you Amir0x just when I thought you were perfect! :)

Jesus if you thought I was perfect :P

MGS4 is really profoundly bad to me. The story is so convoluted, so awfully written and so many embarrassing scenes that it retroactively crippled some of my love for the series.

I'll always consider MGS3 one of the greats, but man... MGS4 was bad to me. Really, really just straight up bad. I think MGS2 was similarly messed up.

But maybe it works alternatively? MGS1 good, MGS2 lame, MGS3 good, MGS4 lame, MGS5... good?

8 out of 10 games are sequels to established series that have been well received on this forum.

To compete in this world of sequels they need to make a good product so it either wins GOTY or comes close and then make a sequel to it is on an equal playing field.

This is just a hype list based on past performance.

Top 10 has serious potential to not just become GOTY contenders, but be among the best games ever made*. This year is going to be fucking amazing.

*
Except The Order 1886. GAF seems to love hyping that game since the Eurogamer thread happened but let's keep our expectations somewhat realistic.

EA confirmed it for Holiday 2015

I'm hopeful, no doubt.

But with how little we have seen. And well ... its EA ... and Star Wars ... and DICE. Just not getting my hopes up. I want to though. So if it has a real strong playable demo type E3 showing I'll be more in tune with the idea of a Holiday 2015 star wars battlefront

EA confirmed it for Holiday 2015
They also confirmed hardline for fall 2014 and two months before launch delayed it.

Would not be surprised if battlefront comes out March 2016. Bad company 2 was also delayed out if the fall to March. Especially if EA doesn't want to compromise game quality again.

True but games like UC4 , Bloodborne and MGS had excellent gameplay demo's as well that really hyped people up. So it is not just on past performance. Zelda on the other hand is there in the list simply on account of past performance.

Dont get me wrong ,I did not think MGS2 is one of the great games or anything and I too believe MGS3 destroys it but I never thought of MGS2 as utter shit though. It was just average. Anyways here is hoping MGS5 overtakes MGS3 as the greatest entry in the series! By the way Ami interested in your top 10 anticipated list. Did you vote?

I guess this information is at least interesting demographically on the makeup of GAF.

I'm genuinely surprised that the Order is so high given what I thought was its negative reception here.

Pretty good..if somewhat predictable list.
Still. Wish Splatoon would have gotten that 10th place over The Order but that's just me.

Sure, all associated media influences this stuff.

Zelda is on my list because of Ocarina of Time. That's how far back this past performance stuff goes for some.
I disliked the last few 3D ones and lukewarm on 2D. (ALBW was good, not great for me.)

I'm just saying that past performance of franchises and developers are also very important for voting. And in the end it's just a hype list and not about actual game quality.

Battlefront 3 will come out 2015. No way is EA going to miss the release with the movie.

Or they could delay it to 2017 to coincide with the release of Episode VIII and have a game that actually works at launch!

I agree, it will probably release in 2015. Too much money to be made.

Not one xbox exlusive on the top ten now i question are they doing something wrong?
Halo mcc left a sour taste in people's mouths.
Remedy has a history of delays so faith that qb makes 2015 is low.
We haven't seen even a screenshot of tomb raider.

Damn good list.

That's like you opinion bro, to me that are plenty of thing on that game that look great and RaD never disappointed. As far as shooters go this looks like the sort that I like.,

Games are not just graphics or gameplay.

Yeah after the great job RaD did on the PSP games, I was excited to see what they'd do on the PS4. Unfortunately every gameplay video has disappointed so far.

"but I'm kind of sad that Phantom Dust didn't make the list"

That's because it's not a 2015 game

"Guess graphics means more than gameplay for a few on GAF. Everything about the gameplay looks so uninspired and just boring"

The gunplay looked awesome to me and Gaf psx impressions on the gameplay were great.

I thought it was a 2015 title, my mistake.

Regarding the Order, to each their own I guess. Compared to other shooters like Gears and Uncharted, the shooting mechanics in the Order looks to be severely lacking. The top 5 reasons not to preorder video, only cemented my reservations about the game.

I've played Uncharted 2 and 3 to completion and to this day I just don't get it.

It's cool that it's number 1. I just wish I could think more highly of the series. Great list in general.

My hype is very well represented in the top 10 - I voted for most of the top 10 and even those I didn't (The Order, The Witcher) I'd be interested in giving a shot. Only thing I voted for with great enthusiasm that didn't make the list was Ori and the Blind Forest (edit: and Rime).

Noting that in the age of multiplatform dominance, 7 of the top 10 are console exclusives (counting Persona 5 and No Man's Sky as console exclusives anyway). Noting also the strong Japanese presence in the list, given their console market is withering on the vine - will 2015 be the last time GAF gets super-hyped for a plethora of console Japanese titles? Wouldn't have expected Uncharted 4 to quite reach number 1 either, but Naughty Dog have came a huge distance in a relatively short space of time, and, in my opinion, deserve the hype - The Last of Us was an immense title, and the PSX trailer was excellent.

Great list, wasn't expecting The Order to crack the top 10 though.
Incredible year.
I wish Tits SC had made the top 20 but at least there's Yakuza 5.

I love Uncharted because I love the characters and set pieces but that's it, and it's my second wanted 2015 game :P

Battlefront has been in development since 2013.

2013
2014
2015

That's 3 years for DICE. Probably most time they had with a game since EA bought them.

Man -- some in this thread are reacting to the list as if it will automatically translate into sales (e.g.: people mad at certain games being in the top ten).
