Sallokin, the Platinum collection only has the series.

You'd need to get the crappy Manga (tm?) release of EoE and D&R if you want those.

I just heard the English dub for the first time, oh god...

Read his lips! Oh man.

It's amazing how anything got done at Nerv.

I just realized that
Eva's budget was being cut both in the anime and in real life.

Blown. Mind.

Thanks for the info. The EoE dvd is 150 dollars new on Amazon. Guess I'll have to buy it used.

Creators are often in the wrong about their creations, and the fact that there was no symbolic attempt behind the use of religious imagery in EVA doesn't mean that the series or film carries no figurative, allegorical meaning in its storytelling whatsoever, particularly in the way its characters tend to relate to each other.

I do, however, feel that there are few innate (or, at least, interesting) Christian themes specifically or religious themes in general in any of the works in this franchise, and I find that especially amusing that the Western audience for anime attached itself so strongly to that aspect of Evangelion when there are works of Japanese animation that deal specifically with Western religions in heavily metaphorical ways that languish in obscurity. Ah well.
Stealth Angel's Egg pimping post?

Great series but overrated. Never saw it again after the initial DVD release. I actually prefer the original ending presented in episodes 25 and 26. Haven't been able to care about the series since and certainly not Rebuild.

Listening to Christian Nutt's love letter to Eva on the most recent Games Damnit podcast convinced me to impulsively buy a Unit-02 Beast figurine from eBay.

Oh god, that Eva 3.0 thread...

You know why hasn't anyone license rescued EoE and reprinted it? Or better yet put a Blu ray version out?

It's not like it wouldn't sell

I still have Manga's shitty DVD

The one where they stick the english credits like right after the movie ends.

So jarring. What a horrible decision.

Does anyone here know anything about DVD production and marketing? Because I can bet that someone could Kickstart it.

"Steal Eva away from Manga! With this kickstarter, you're helping us get back the license and the ability to get the remastered versions of Death(True)² and The End Of Evangelion from Japan."

Add some nice art to some demo cover, and you got monneh!

I'm on episode five. Holy production values, Batman.

And go figure Misato is a gold mine for inspirational quotes.

And lol at Shinji saying "bullshit!" out loud on the English dub.

I have it too. But considering I paid about 10 euro for it, I am quite happy I have it.

Are there any good NGE games? How's the Smash Bros clone on PS2? What about that Yamaoka music game on PSP. And how's the N64 one? Anything worth playing?

I have super fond memories of the N64 one, if for nothing but the sheer novelty of seeing a lo-fi version of the series.

It's mostly a series of minigames, but the bulk of the game is a fighting system that is kind of fascinating and utterly empowering once you figure it out.

It's filled with all sorts of nice little touches, such as if you rotate the analog stick when your eva gets ready to fight the third angel, it'll fall over and damage itself just like in the series. The option to erase all your saved data is called "third impact", which is pretty great.

I just finished episode 21 (Weaving a Story 2: Oral Stage), which is about Fuyutski getting kidnapped by Kaji/SELEE and we learn about the origins of NERV.

So, Misato shot Kaji right? This was what I remember assuming during a previous re-watch.

And speaking of them, the end of the previous episode was awkward as hell, dialogue-wise. Don't know if the English dub lifted a literal translation, or if it's them self-censoring, but Misato all of a sudden said "don't put strange objects in there!" lol.

Some (a lot?) think it was Kaji's handler who shot him.

Also, yes, Kaji inserts a capsule containing a microchip with all the secret Nerv data into Misato's vajayjay.

Haha, oh wow. Okay, that line makes sense then.

In general, I guess self-censoring or keeping dialogue in PG territory is a thing with English dubs. Another example I can point out from an earlier episode is when they were in the hot springs. Shinji throws a bottle over the divider, then you hear Asuka scream "you hit me in my most sensitive area!"

One thing from another episode that was genuine gold, though: "What better time? Although I'd rather be between Misato's melons, this is a place I'd like to be when I die," - said by Kaji while watering melons in the Geofront in the middle of Zeurel's invasion, with Unit 02 completely beheaded and armless with artillery firing in the air.

Bumping this up because I have a question about the manga. Did they stop writing new chapters? There hasn't been one since July 2012 I believe.

New fan of the series.

Sadamoto puts out new chapters whenever he pleases, it may be some chapters per year or nothing at all.

The manga doesn't have a regular schedule. Sadamoto puts them out whenever he can. There have been years between chapters before. The manga is almost 20 years old and still isn't finished yet.

Sounds like it's time for me to finally read this thing.

And by it'll end this year, he means in the next three years, right?

I read through them all in the span of a couple of days.

There are bits that I liked better than how it played out on the TV series.

You have Shinji and Asuka being forced to sleep in a room together at Nerv to get in sync for their dance routine, rather than Asuka moving in with Misato at that moment. Then there's the various interactions with Rei that seem better than how the show played it out.

On the other hand, I didn't like how blatantly obvious that Yui was in Unit 01. I prefer the more subtle approach to that conclusion that the show did.
