Things are a bit different this month. So proceed after reading.
There are two options on the form, one for November and one for December.
Please, please, please, pick two separate games on the form.
Voting for the same game twice is possible, but it would screw things up.
Also don't delay on voting. I'll be closing this tomorrow night, and announcing the November winner on 11/2.

I voted! Trump, and then Hilary. That's how this works, right?
I'm Canadian and can only watch the terror in ths US from arm's length

WURM and Shadowgate

Startropics 2 and Shadowgate

I know Startropics 2 won't win (mainly because it came out too late, 1994) but everyone should play it on their own time.

I've never played WURM. Kinda curious.

It's a crazy interesting game, which alternates between sidescrolling, shmup, and lightgun-style levels. All wrapped up with anime cutscenes and a decent (for NES) plotline. One of my classmates had it growing up, and I borrowed it a few times from him.

Im not sure how serious we should take this, but we can get in a situation where one game gets the most total votes, but doesnt get picked in either month. Kinda fitting considering there is Presidential election coming up? To avoid this, I suggest we just tally the overall votes, and do the game with the most overall votes in November, and the game with the second most overall votes in december.

I'm fine with this. I wanted to do it so it was one list, pick two but I was in a rush and couldn't figure it out quickly .

Um, Tetris?

Anyway, it would have been cool to have Star Tropics Nov. Star Tropics 2 Dec.

I voted Star Tropics 2 and Roller

^^^ I love the box art on the Duck Tales 2. It's glorious. Beautiful.

Wow, that is amazing! Where did you get it?

I like this.

Also, I wish people would post pictures of their collections or have lists. I find that stuff fun! I'll post a pic soon. Getting a shelf for NES games soon.

Do you most of you have what you want or still have games that you've been meaning to pick up on the NES?

For me, I want to have all the Capcom and Nintendo games. About 70% of the way there, so far. Some of it is just so damn much though(like most of the DK games). It's been difficult too, seeing as how garage sales, flea markets and online ads mostly seem to be a waste of time anymore. Especially if you already have a sizable collection. The chances of finding what you need are slim.

Decided at like 11:30 I needed to do a Castlevania run before midnight struck. FInished at 11:52 with three (really stupid) deaths.

Happy Halloween NES-GAF. <3 this thread :)

Try nominating the original Star Tropics for january if the sequel doesnt win now, and maybe we could do it in jan-feb instead. Also, definitely agree on Duck Tales 2!

Wow congrats. I always mess up on either the hall leading up to Death, or Death himself. Happy Halloween as well, best thread on gaf for sure :)

Guess we do it that way then. Oh and here is a little picture of my unorganized mess:

I have most of the games I want, including stuff like Gimmick, Little Samson, Jetsons and so on, but still lack some semi-hard to find games like Adventure of Lolo 3, Action in New York and quite a few Famicom-games. Not really in a hurry though, considering how much I still havent played.

The hall leading up to Death is always a crapshoot. Sometimes I'm on my game and I look like a damned ninja; other times it wrecks me and I'm super embarassed. Yesterday the RNG was my friend and it dropped an invincibility potion on the first Axe Armor I killed and I just ran through as fast as possible. Death himself isn't too bad if you just cheese him with the Holy Water. The fight without it though is still pretty challenging to me, but I was playing for speed yesterday, not comfort haha

Been meaning to post a pic of my collection for a while now. I continue to slow but surely add to it and never get around to posting my pick-ups, either.

Noticed this months game. Couldn't resist a quick play through. My favourite NES game and one of my all time favourite games for any system. The perfect action platformer

Thanks to Cheesemeister I am now a proud owner of an AV Famicom.

I haven't turned it on yet, I've read in a few places a Genesis model 1 AC adapter will work with it, has anyone here done that?

She's a beaut!

And yes, I tested my AV Famicom with a Model 1 Genny AC adaptor, and it worked fine. I did buy a replacement though from a company in France who makes retro adapters (Also bought a 3-in-1 Sega Genesis/CD/32x power cord from them too).

Nice! I got my first AV Famicom from him too, including a big collection of games. Awesome dude!

And I got this double AC adopter from this site as well, to power the FDS i got later. Highly recommended.

I take it Nintendo never made ugly glob top versions of Super Mario Bros on Famicom? Seems like the Super Mario Bros on Famicom I bought at too many games is a fake. Who makes fakes of Super Mario Bros, really now. Also Famicom carts are insanely difficult to open holy hell .

So we're in a bit of a bind.

Here's how voting tally'd up

6BqMCam.png

Crystalis - 6
Jackal - 6
Startropics 2 - 4
WURM - 5
Shadowgate - 7
Deja Vu - 2
Rollergames - 4
Tetris - 1
Bionic Commando - 9
Abadox - 2

This puts Bionic Commando as the clear winner, so that's our November game.

Shadowgate in second. BUT. Someone voted for Shadowgate twice, which I definitely asked people to not to. In my view, this would reduce it to 6 votes, but then we'd have a three-way tie between that, Crystalis and Jackal.

So we need a solution. What do we do for the December game?

Lol, our elections are as fucked up as the ones going on next week. Lets just do a quick 2-day threeway vote between the three games starting now?

Probably the best solution.

I wish I could just set a poll on GAF for stuff like this.

I'll put it together shortly and have it up in a bit.

Great work again OnPoint! Three awesome games, and I would love to see all three of them win really. Still voted for Crystalis since I nominated that.

Sorry, that was me! I just really like Shadowgate! (and I didn't catch that you're not supposed to do that) The setting and the soundtrack were very atmospheric when I was a kid.

I actually have a story here: back in the day I borrowed the game from a friend, but couldn't get past a certain point, I think it was the bridge troll or something. Reason was I couldn't find the secret passage from the arrow room, or something to that effect. But I was stuck. I even sent a letter to Nintendo-lehti (=magazine), a local gaming mag on their help column. (it wasn't answered!)

Then the friend moved away and wanted his game back, so I kinda forgot about it, as my whole retro game hobby for years. Only when I discovered retro games again as an adult I first played it all the way through on an emulator, then from the actual cart, and now from a flashcart, since that's my way of gaming nowadays. Good times! Still a great game!

Just updated mine now. Got the Error A7 after starting it up but otherwise things seem fine; menu does seem a little glitchier though? May just revert back for the time being...

I didn't update yet because there seems to be just very specific fixes, nothing all-around. Might as well wait if the update is buggy.

Well, I appreciate the honesty haha we'll see how the vote shakes out! If not this month I'm sure we'll get to it at some point.

All of these are from when they were new. I haven't bought a NES game or even taken any of these out since I discovered emulation. I'm not even sure where my NES is.

EgJ9umIl.jpg

I was born November 1981. Most of these were bought before I was 10. I had good opinions as a child, right?

Zelda 2, Super C, Zelda, Crystalis, Dragon Warrior 1-4, Battletoads/Double Dragon, Final Fantasy, Dr Mario, Contra, Kirby's Adventure, Maniac Mansion, Double Dragon 2, Mega Man 3, Mega Man 4, Ninja Gaiden
Life Force, Pinball, Rad Racer 1-2, Kid Icarus, Super Mario Bros 1-3, Shadowgate, Startropics 1-2, Castlevania 1-3, TMNT, Wizards and Warriors, 2 Metroids

How did I know to get Maniac Mansion and Startropics before age 10? Nintendo Power. If they put a game on a cover, then it was worth getting. I knew whenever I played random games at a friend's house that NP didn't talk about much, they weren't that fun. Things like Karate Kid and Back to the Future.

Also I would usually rent games and if I liked them, then I would ask Santa for them for Christmas.

The majority of my NES games are cart only, held in a file cabinet. I've only got like maybe 5-6 complete in box. Famicom games are in a cassette holder, and with those i've only got 4 complete in box famicarts.

So, its november, have anybody started Bionic Commando? I am starting it tonight myself!

Edit: Seeing that new Nes unpacked (even though its not a real Nes) is so cool. Loved the poster!
