NES/Famicom Appreciation Thread

^grabbed all of em so far last night, checking out tonight! should be cool.

so, i'm shopping around for my options with the RGB mod, and was made aware of the very slim list of carts that were glitchy or might not work, which was fine by me. thing is, my regular modder, i'm not sure if he's familiar with this job, but he did offer to disable my lockout chip & install a switch for when it might be needed.

now, the other guy (who's more known for this mod) offered only to disable said lockout. does anyone know what titles in particular would mess up/cease to function if this is done?

Nah, that's Gun Smoke and Ghosts 'n Goblins. Not Mega Man :(

Huge lot I grabbed off ebay just came in. Not bad for $100 shipped, even the custom cases are cool (all games are in real nice shape). Odd lineup to get custom cases for though... Still for just over $2 a game no was I would pass it up.

not a bad haul, they did good work with the universal game cases too...if you want a couple bucks for kung-fu heroes & a dupe of knockout kings 2000 lemme know, haha

Just got my new Ducktales 2 (JP Famicom version) in the mail. Box is in pretty good condition, minor ding on the side, which is nice to see. Wasn't TOO much more expensive than the used ones with much more beat up boxes that I've seen around here.

I've only played/owned the GB version before. Now I have 1&2 on Famicom and 2 on GB. Looking forward to trying it out.

Package arrived just before I had to leave so I'll post a pic later.

Congrats! I have been thinking about buying a copy for a while now.

Yeah I made it to the Snowfield, lost a few lives to the trucks, but then lost all credits to Energy Zone. I know I can beat it without using the code. I hope so anyway.
You should be able to. I made it to the final level without losing a single life in my recent play-through. I hadn't played it in probably 20 years. It took a bit of practice, which I got because I never continued. I always restarted when my game was over. The time I beat the game, I made it to the final level without losing a life. I didn't remember what to expect and almost had game over during the final battle. Somehow I managed to pull it off on my last life.

Overall it took about a week of playing it occasionally. Super C was significantly easier. I started it the following day, and was able to beat it with no continues after only two days.

You mean the trucks with spikes on the front? I just stand on the left and shoot. I don't use turbo or anything and I have never died to them.

Guess i'm just not hammering the button fast enough ( I usually try to stick with the spread shot, so maybe thats my problem).

Anyone know any decently priced famicom games that have extra sound? I modded my nes to play the extra sound channels and I'm dying to try it out. I was at the gamestore this week staring at the huge wall of famicom games and had no idea what I should even be looking for. Castlevania III is the obvious choice, but unfortunately they didn't have it.

Sun fading probably. It has the biggest effect on reds.

I don't know, I'd think the cart would turn that silverish color if it was from sun fading. Of course the way the light is reflecting off it it's kinda hard to tell what's going on with it.

Picked up just one NES game at this weekend's Seattle Retro Gaming Expo.

It was a little pricey at $20, but I really wanted a CIB copy. Glad to add it to the collection!

^great game & sexy box, grats woody! did you see the retronauts guys out there?

i swear ive been wanting to see seattle forever, if the retro show's an annual thing i wanna fly out there for next year's

Picked up this nice factory seal. And yeah, I took this picture for posterity because I've now opened it up. :)

What? I don't know you personally but this shit is what fills me with rage. If you wanted an open, complete in box copy why did you buy that instead of buying factory seal and letting another collector have that in his/her collection?

I like that he opened it. Much ado about 0.02 cents worth of cellophane.

lmao. It belongs to them so let them do what they want.

Guess I won't bother linking you to my youtube channel in which I open factory sealed NES games ;)

Every collector is different. Some want VGA graded, some want sealed. I'm a CIB guy myself but that doesn't stop me from grabbing sealed games at a good price. I grew up with NES, and for a long time assumed I would never again experience the feeling of opening a brand new NES game. And now, once in a while, I do. I assure you, it's a pretty cool feeling.

Having a collection of factory sealed games is way more infuriating to me than someone opening one up.

Sealed games rotting away on some idiot's shelf makes me more angry than someone opening a really nice boxed copy so they can play an awesome game and have a really nice box on their shelf.

F collectors.
